Terror on the Zynyx: The Windshear Brotherhood

Image
Terror on the Zynyx:
The Windshear Brotherhood
All through Ymiden:

The Windshear Brotherhood claims responsibility for many raids and attacks across the Zynyx Estuary, and the River Zynyx itself. With Lightning Knight recruitment at an all time low, the military has been hard pressed to meet this threat, and many of the Rharnean officials begin to look toward mercenaries and privateers, to pursue these hostile naval invaders.

Traffic all along the Zynyx has been disrupted, and coming and going by the way of the river has become too perilous for most passenger ferries to chance the trip without a military escort.

The Windshear Brotherhood is well known to be associated with the Naval Defenses of Athart, but the government in Athart fiercely denies any responsibility or involvement in the Brotherhood's activities in Rharne.

So far no slaves have been taken, and the Windshear Brotherhood insists on telling any survivors they leave behind that they aren't there to take slaves for Athart. Nevertheless, several ships have been known to take captives, although these are rumored to be more conscripts than anything else.

I’m going to run this event a little bit differently. Here’s how it’s going to go.
  • You have three weeks to post in here telling me which place your PC will be in and what they’re going to do. I’m wanting details (see “Initial Post Code” below). After three weeks, that’s set in stone.
  • On 22nd June, 2023 I will modnote every post in this thread. I’ll tell you what you’re facing, etc. I will also give some of you “curveballs” (unexpected additions). I’ll then give you “objectives” which you meet / not in solos / collabs.
  • As you start – and complete – threads, please post here (see code). Post first when all involved PCs have posted for the first time – and again when you have submitted for review. If it’s a one-post solo, just post here once :D
  • Around the 22nd of June 2023 I’ll move on from Stage 1 to Stage 2. What that entails is entirely up to what your pc's accomplish against the Windshear Brotherhood.
  • One week before the end of the Cycle, I’ll make sure that all posts in here are modnoted – and this will inform the calendar for next Cycle!
  • Please – for this event – no placeholders to be carried over, as it will have big impacts. Anyone who wants to follow this event after 22nd June2023 will be able to, but I will do an announcement around that time which gives the consequences of this event to the whole regions affected – so what you can write about after that will be limited to stuff which falls within those confines. Also, on 22nd of June the areas where PCs make a difference vs the ones where they don’t will be set in stone.

Please open up your involvement (if you wish to be involved) with a initial post to say what your role here is and which PC you're involving. Unless you post the initial post, you will not be able to take part.

Stage 1 of the Windshear Zynyx Takeover

1st of Ymiden to 20th:

The Mire: More pirate activity is spotted along the coastal areas of the Mire. Pirates are seen operating out of the Mire, and along the cliffside coasts south of it. Jacadons are seen to be flying over the treelines, as if disturbed by something.

Volta: Volta is among the first towns attacked as the Windshear Brotherhood stages its offensive. They appear to be looking for scholars and inventions and technologies. Specifically things that have utility in warfare. Some captives are taken, mainly scholars, inventors and technicians. Healers too, but Order of the Adunih healers are left alone.

Zynyx Estuary: Departure or arrival by sea becomes exceedingly dangerous without a military escort. Military ships are avoided deftly by the Brotherhood, they only seem to be attacking merchants and unescorted travelers. They avoid the escorts with their faster and lighter galley-styled sail ships.

Stage 2 of the Terror on the Zynyx: Discord Among Spirits

21st of Ymiden to 40th: ( Phase 2 ends on the 1st of August 2023)

The Mire, Stormwastes, & Zynyx Market: The Lightning Knights stationed in Zynyx Market, with the help of famous busy-body Praetorum a mercenary captain, find out that the Windshear Brotherhood, as well as Miranda Duskblade, and possibly other groups have designs upon the Jacadons that have settled the Mire. They begin mobilizing immediately, trying to gather volunteers among the safari hunters, and poachers in exchange for pardons to help guide them through the waste and wipe out the threat of Miranda Duskblade once and for all.

Meanwhile, sea battles are seen on the coast of the Mire, as unidentified red-painted ships clash with the Windshear Brotherhood ships, many of which are seen sailing southward to recover from the pounding they took in Volta.

Volta: Clemengoth begins announcing his return, as storm clouds gather on the western horizon. He will arrive sometime on the 25th of Ymiden, by most of the Voltan weather-watchers calculations. His protective field around Volta has long since dissapated, and a sphere of lightning and clouds is seen drifting toward shore on the 26th...

Zynyx: Scattered reports of foreign pirates are seen up and down the coast of the river. They have taken to attacking civilians, merchants, and military alike, taking the actions at Volta as an act of open aggression by the military, they're not messing around now. Although they will still steer clear of larger vessels, unless they can gang up on them. They're still not taking slaves, but are looking for captives who are inventors and technologists and scientists and healers. They aren't targetting those cloaked by the Order, however, for some strange reason.

Rharne and outlying areas: Strange reports of missing persons come trickling into the Lightning Post guard stationed. Mostly derelicts and criminals disappear, but a few innocent people are also taken, who happen to be suffering from trauma or some other form of mental illness. The Rharne Prison is empty, which is reported by several transport carriages taking people to and from there.

Re: Terror on the Zynyx: The Windshear Brotherhood

PCs involved: Vivian Shiryu
NPCs involved? The Lightning Knights and possibly The Wardens.
PC Role in this: Ilaren gave her command of the military response to the Windshear Brotherhood.
Brief summary of how prepared / what you’ll be bringing to the situation? She's Ilaren's Champion, a Grand Warden of Lovalus, a veteran commander, a highly skilled personal combatant, and has a magic dream sword. She'll be bringing all her war-time stuff.
At what point in the timeline will you be entering 1st of Ymiden, starting at Volta.
What will your PC hope to do / achieve: Get these idiots out of Rharnian territory, preferably by relocating them to the bottom of the sea but other outcomes are acceptable.
 ! Message from: Pig Boy
You don't have forewarning of their attack, so however or whatever reason Vivian has to be in Volta should be included in your first post. They have the initiative, because of the lack of movement last season on their encroachment.

The pirates you're dealing with have highly sophisticated ammunition in their catapults and ballista. The ballista points are metallic beneath a coating of ceramic to keep the lightning defenses of Volta from targetting them while they're loaded. Once these ferrous payloads are broken upon impact with their targets, the lightning of Volta will go crazy, setting fires to buildings and granaries and boats and such.

In the chaos, several longboats surreptitiuosly sneak into the shores of Volta, and begin trying to raid for captives. Ship-borne pursuit will be difficult of the main ships out at the Delta, as they will go out to sea upon first sign of pursuit, and their ships are not only well-sailed, but also sped along by galley oars.

PCs involved: Perdita and Eli
NPCs involved? None
PC Role in this: Wrong place, wrong time.
Brief summary of how prepared / what you’ll be bringing to the situation? We're not prepared. We will, in fact, be sitting on the banks of the river having a picnic. They will be entirely oblivious to the situation.
At what point in the timeline will you be entering (eg: 1-20th of Ymiden, 21st-40th of Ymiden, 41st-60th of Ymiden, 61st-80th of Ymiden)? 1st Ymiden (we figure that's the only way to be actually oblivious)
What will your PC hope to do / achieve: Survival. Fun threads. A bit of swashbuckling fun!
 ! Message from: Pig Boy
Eli and Perdita are on the opposite side of the banks of the River Zynyx, across from the spires of Volta. There, they are witness to the lightning defenses of Volta going berserk, and the catapult balls being flung by the the naval forces of the Windshear Brotherhood. Each payload as it makes contact with its target, explodes in a burst of sound and lightning, which is further compounded by the lightning flashing all around Volta from its spire's defenses.

Perdita and Eli are therefore distracted, from a group of pirates who'd been sneaking along the southern bank of the Zynyx, carrying their longboats on their backs and moving them further up river, where they can get around the battle.

Re: Terror on the Zynyx: The Windshear Brotherhood

PCs involved: Winston
NPCs involved? None specific atm, as no direct action is being raking. However he is [url= viewtopic.php?t=31736 ]here[\url] in this time period. I’m not actively getting involved atm, but his teams remit is developing tech and he works closely with the Order of Adunih and Isonomia. So if things became more ‘apparent’ I would like the option to get involved in a future round, so placing this statement of interest :-)
PC Role in this: Lead researcher in the willow tree hospital and leader of Insononmia and closely accociated to Order of the Adunih
Brief summary of how prepared / what you’ll be bringing to the situation? N/a atm
At what point in the timeline will you be entering (eg: 1-20th of Ymiden, 21st-40th of Ymiden, 41st-60th of Ymiden, 61st-80th of Ymiden)? I don’t know yet, h til it becomes apparent whether any of the organizations he working with become affected later in the season.
What will your PC hope to do / achieve: currently, he’s just probably oblivious r unless someone steals stuff from his lab :-p
 ! Message from: Pig Boy
So far the details about what's going on are sparse. There may be trickling in sparse reports of casualties and injured in Volta and thereabouts from Isonomia agents, but there's no direct danger to the Willow Tree Hospital yet. However, so long as you stay put and get ready, you'll have time to prepare if they manage to push up river.

Appearance

When standing at his full height, Winston towers a full 1 foot and one blueberry tall. A fact he will happily demonstrate before flicking said blue orb into the air with his nose and then eating it with a snappy grin.

His eyes are dark and sharp, ringed by dark brown fur upon the bright white fur that sets off across the rest of his face.

Equipement

Winston usually carries the following on his person:
  • Cassion's Locket hangs snugly around his neck.
  • Winston's Fairy Bell hangs from his tool-belt attached to his hip. It's 'ringer' is often bound by a small piece of cloth to prevent it giving away his position while in the wilderness.

Re: Terror on the Zynyx: The Windshear Brotherhood

PCs involved: Nir'wei.
NPCs involved? None.
PC Role in this: Lovalus Warden with an ulterior motive, looking to disrupt pirate activity and investigate what's got the Jacadons so riled up.

Brief summary of how prepared / what you’ll be bringing to the situation?
Lots of wolves, couple of flying creatures, whatever animals are in the local environment and some long-range weapons for disruption.

At what point in the timeline will you be entering (eg: 1-20th of Ymiden, 21st-40th of Ymiden, 41st-60th of Ymiden, 61st-80th of Ymiden)?
11th of Ymiden.

What will your PC hope to do / achieve:
First priority, protect Jacadons and prevent them from being poached. Second priority, repel pirates and protect bystanders.
 ! Message from: Pig Boy
When Nir'wei arrives at the Mire, he'll hear the Jacadons loud trumpeting roars over the shallows and through the trees before he sees any. Something has them riled up alright. And as a highly skilled animal trainer and husbandry person, Nir'wei will be able to tell that nothing gets an animal so riled up as something messing with their eggs or young.

Should he investigate further near to the Jacadons, he'll note that the eggs were snatched out of several clutches and nests. Depending on how cautious his approach to the nests, he may find himself challenged by a Jacadon, that takes him for a cooperative with the poachers. But that depends on his approach and how well he uses his resources and skills.

The tracks of the people who absconded with the eggs, will lead to the western shoreline cliffs to the southwest of the Mire. That's where you'll want to go if you pursue this in a thread. Will mod note the thread you write on the 22nd.

Re: Terror on the Zynyx: The Windshear Brotherhood

PCs involved: Parlance
NPCs involved? Ancho Prau'vy Parlance's Lightning Knight Escort
PC Role in this: Thunder Priesthood
Brief summary of how prepared / what you’ll be bringing to the situation? Not in the slightest. Brawling ability and strength and endurance. Faith in Ilaren.
At what point in the timeline will you be entering (eg: 1-20th of Ymiden, 21st-40th of Ymiden, 41st-60th of Ymiden, 61st-80th of Ymiden)? 7th of Ymiden 723
What will your PC hope to do / achieve: Parlance and Ancho will be out to sea on their schooner, on their way to proselytize abroad. They will be overtaken by a crew of pirates, who then throw them in the brig of their larger ship while they claim the schooner as a prize.

Parlance will take the opportunity to proselytize to the pirates/Windshear Brotherhood ship, the merits of Ilaren, and try to convert them to the side of Rharne. Eventually they'll realize he's not a significant threat to them and allow him free roam as long as he doesn't leave the ship.

Basically a stockholm syndrome situation playing its way out both ways is my plan.
 ! Message from: Peg
The majority of your pirates are stereotypically what they are. But if he really perseveres, there is the chance of converting a pirate or two to Illaren. If he does that, then they might be willing to open up about what they're doin. .... ....
