We really want to encourage Guest Storytelling on Scalvoris. Any of the "Open" or "Reward" plots can be used as a story prompt by a GST - please simply PM a Scalvoris Mod and be assured that we will be VERY happy to help!
General Weather
The majority of the weather is dealt with in the calendar. Throughout Cylus, Scalvoris is covered in snow, often many feet deep. Survival is a key concern from the 2nd - 16th of this season, so please play it that way. Outside that, it's just incredibly cold with snow patches, black ice, freezing fog and all the other usual comforts of a fantasy mid-winter.
Also, please note that Cylus is dark on Scalv. All the live-long day, it's dusk-like. Thanks!

Event Cylus Celebrants!
Date: Cylus, 723.
Location: Whole Island
Description: Those who celebrate in Cylus are the recipients of an age-old Scalvorian tradition. For a couple who wed during these freezing trials, a woman who has a baby or any family or individual who celebrates, gifts are brought from around their region. Much more so than they would be should they experience what they are during any other cycle. Often, these gifts are sent before Cylus starts and there is one member of the community who has a "stockpile" ready. Every now and then someone suggests that they just stop sending them to each other and give to their own people, but the answer is always no, it's nice to receive things from all over the island.

This season on "Cylus in Scalvoris"......
Date: 1st of Cylus, 723.
Location: Whole Island (except Immortals Tongue and Ishallr)
Description: The first dusk on the 1st Cylus sees the people of Scalvoris lighting a huge bonfire on the nearest beach and celebrating the night away. Each region does this differently, but celebrations are held everywhere. There might be a number of bonfires in different areas of Scalvoris Town or Almund, depending on what sort of party you want to go to. There's likely to be one that's child-friendly and at least one that's very adult. The only place where this doesn't take place is Immortals' Tongue and Ishallr.

Location: Whole Island
Description: It’s like clockwork. At one trill past midnight, the snow starts to fall. This is not just any snow-storm, though, it is of a magnitude rarely seen in Viden, let alone Scalvoris. Within an hour, the snow is thick on the ground and, by morning on the 2nd, the whole island is under two feet of snow, with drifts up to ten feet, easily. People are snowed in their homes and this weather means that people need to be looked after and looked out for. The Elements and the Rangers set out to help people and communities pull together. This snow storm continues for 3 more days (2nd – 5th Cylus)

Date: 3rd of Cylus, 723.
Location: Almund and Faldrass
Description: Also known as the Black Baer Trial, this trial sees celebrations which are fairly ad hoc, with Scalvorians taking time out of their trial to reflect on the lives lost during the eruption of Faldrass in 720 and its aftermath, and the bravery of those who dared to forge a new beginning on the island. Although the trial is observed by people in all parts of Scalvoris - particularly refugees who never returned to Faldrass - the 'vellum vessels' tradition is restricted almost exclusively to Almund and Faldrass. (more info here ). This arc it is rather scuppered by the weather (see 2nd Cylus for details) as the torrential snow storm continues, but a few brave souls still manage it.

Location: Whole Island
Description: Travel is now more or less impossible, and people are cut off from all but very close neighbours (and even then, that requires a lot of digging). Snow has been falling constantly since just past midnight on the 2nd Cylus and, where it has not been dug away, it is now up to five or six feet deep. There are drifts of snow which could cover houses while food – and water – are in short supply everywhere. This is, without doubt, a crisis.

Location: Whole Island
Description: The snowfall continues throughout the trial and then, at just one trill before midnight, the snowfall stops. All is quiet in the darkness of the night and the snow lays at eight foot deep at it’s most shallow. The weight of it has collapsed buildings and there are, undoubtedly, many dead and injured.

Date: 6th of Cylus, 723.
Location: Whole Island
Description: The ever-dusk of Cylus gives little light to work by as people awaken to the snow-covered world. The fact that the snow has stopped does little to ease the reality of what is there. The biting cold means that the snow is not melting and so all that the stopping of the snowfall has done is allowed people to dig out more easily. There is a long road ahead and, for the next 10 trials (6th – 16th) there are rescues ongoing across the whole island. The final cost of this storm will not be known for some time. The Rangers, the Elements and the Order of the Adunih are all very visible and working hard to help Scalvoris.

Date: 10th of Cylus, 723.
Location: Whole Island
Description: This arc, the Sea of Light is a sombre affair. People still congregate and release floating lanterns on to the water, but they are in memory of those who have been lost – or who have not yet been found, following the snow. Still, the event happens, not least because the people of Scalvoris refuse to let a little bit of snow stop them.

Description: Temperatures start to drop and the snow begins to melt. Thankfully, this is not likely to cause flooding as the Rangers and the Elements have been hard at work. Reports are in of what happened and what the final toll is and will soon be released. There are concerns for crops and animals and food – and for those who live in more remote areas.

Date: 20th of Cylus, 723.
Location: Whole Island
Description: The 20th Cylus sees parks and gardens throughout Scalvoris lit up with lanterns which have been shaped like flowers and which represent the growth which is promised when the light returns to the island. Again, the focus is on bringing light and creating light on the island itself. Those areas which are most bare and barren during this time are transformed, for just one trial, into places of multicoloured, flickering beauty. People flock there to look at them and marvel at the craftsmanship

Date: 21st of Cylus, 723.
Location: Whole Island
Description: The final outcome of the snow storm is known and becomes public knowledge. There are lists with numbers who died, buildings damaged and buildings destroyed, known injuries, etc. Conversely there are stories of the brave actions and selfless deeds of many – and for the moment, it is those people who are celebrated on Scalvoris. However, there is no doubt that questions will be asked and data will be dissected.

Date: 26th of Cylus, 723.
Location: All coastal areas (Faldrass, Harvardr, Almund, Coastal Scaltoth and Sweetwine, Gunvorton and Egilrun)
Description: In the dark of Cylus, pirates attack Scalvoris. This is – very obviously – a concerted and planned attack as they strike at around 2am in all places at once. They are well prepared and all follow the same process; they sneak in and are in place to pillage – if they are not found then they do not engage in any violence or show themselves, but those who are discovered react with immediate and deadly violence.

Date: 30th of Cylus, 723.
Location: Whole Island
Description: The 30th Cylus sees people all over the island releasing lanterns into the sky throughout the trial. From the 'dawn' to when the sun finally reappears, there are lanterns in the sky above Scalvoris. The people are very clear that they get the light one trial before anyone else on Idalos. They make it for themselves and, of course they do. They are Scalvorians, after all.
