Dream of the Blue Turtle
A School for Idalos
On the 1st Cylus 721, as the new Arc began on Idalos, a new building was created, some time after the eruption of Faldrass and the destruction of so much. So many lives had been lost but, in the darkness there shone a glimmer of hope. Saoire, the Immortal of Turtles herself, had taken residence on Scalvoris. From the mainland could be seen twinkling lights and people told of a new building, a new school, a new place. Eventually, it became ~ like the Sentry ~ part of the new layout of Faldrass.
With the volcano always ever-present in the background, Saoire's Dream is many things. It is - first and foremost - a school. A place for learning, but more than that. Saoire, as the Immortal of Mentorship, is interested in helping people grow, to be the best version of themselves they can be. She is concerned that those who come here get the very best they can from it and she has incredibly high standards of her teachers.
Saoire's Dream is a labyrinthian structure. Some say that the staircases move, others speak of rooms far above the number which it would be possible to house there. Yet, no one is telling much. There is only one way into Saoire's Dream, through the large and beautiful front entrance, based at the south of the building. Inside that entrance is a sprawling reception; people of all races are welcome here, in Saoire's Dream, and there are desks throughout the reception area. Some of them are appropriate for a tunawa, others for cadouri-sized beings, yet others for human-sized visitors and there are large desks for Ithecal and Ellune and their ilk. High vaulted ceilings in the reception are made from Egilrun-crafted glass and rainbows of light are ever-present, even at night.
Beyond the reception area are the classrooms of Saoire's Dream. Ranging from small comfortable rooms with overstuffed armchairs for small groups, to massive lecture halls. There were rooftop gardens and large open-grass courtyard in the very center of the building. There are tall towers, and an entire wing underwater, so that Mer can learn here as easily as anyone else. In that "Water Wing", as it is called, some of the classrooms are completely dry, some totally submerged. No one knows how or why. The philosophy of Saoire's Dream is simple and accessible to all.
The classes taught here are not academic classes in competition with the University. In fact, some courses are shared between the two. Saoire's School teaches practical skills, trade skills, life skills. From self-help and group therapy to basic reading, maths for people who are scared of numbers, shoemaking, basketweaving and smithing. Students in the University who are studying Biology or Zoology or Medicine or Surgery, for example, might learn their theory in the University building, and come here for practical lessons on Caregiving or Animal Husbandry. They work with the Menagerie, too.
But the one thing which is not taught here?
Weapons. No weapon skills are taught here, no weapons are weilded in these halls.
Mentorship here has a very broad meaning and so, there are always classes going on. It is well known that there are many ways to pay for classes here. Some people pay with money, but if an individual can not afford to pay in that way, then they may pay with time. Saoire is very happy to encourage this - and she does not always insist that they pay in time to the School. Depending on their skills, she asks that they work in a place most suited.
It is said that anyone can travel to Saoire's Dream and - to an extent - that is true. Once a season, on the first trial of the new season, the doors to Saoire's Dream are open no matter where on Idalos you are. All that an individual needs to do is to knock any door, pray to Saoire, and they will be transported to Saoire's Dream when they walk through the door. However, there are specific issues with that, which are also known. People who do this must be free to do it - if they are incarcerated etc, they can not. Only those with the intent of actually studying or teaching at the school may do so - it is not free transport for the sake of it. Finally, it can only be done once per arc by any one person.
