The North Star (Curious Constellations: Viden Branch) [Business]

Hello,

This business is international in scope and was originally started in Etzos.

The first branch/main headquarters in Etzos was approved here.

The Viden branch offers different services than the Etzori branch and is structured differently so while they are technically connected by the underlying intelligence network services - they do differ in front-facing customer services (see Goods & Services tab for these differences).

The listed NPCs here have been approved.

The Renown Request for 50% off Starting costs is approved.

Thanks for looking.

  • ABOUT THE BUSINESS
  • Business Name: The North Star (Curious Constellations: Viden Branch)
  • Business Location: Headquartered in the Amber Prism.
  • Business Description:
No matter the oddity or unique nature of the request, Curious Constellations is here to help! It is rumored that no matter how outlandish or unusual the request, C.C. won't turn away anyone in need of help... barring the need for strictly illicit activities, of course.

Known by the public as just The North Star, this is the Viden branch of Curious Constellations.

Unlike the antique shop based in Etzos, the Viden branch's front-facing business is an expansive and grand hotel. While it offers an assortment of rooms for rental, like the Etzos' branch, the front desk also has Viden properties and land plots on offer... as well as an assortment of unusual but intriguing services.

However, in conjunction with the Etzos branch, the Viden branch's primary trade is not of material nature, but of networked resources, information, and various assistance requests. Though international in scope, local business operates faster than foreign arrangements. Constellations also sells informative reports of different regions, cities, and areas. Specific location requests can be made, and the waiting period is dependent on payment, travel times, and contact/courier locations.

    Image
The North Star in Viden is in the cliffface (so there is no open-air back) but here is an approximate picture for an idea of the exterior's concept.
  • Physical Shop Description:
Ground-floor Level: Open to the Public.

When one first enters The North Star, they will be greeted by a grand lobby with neoclassical decorations of polished white stone and metal fixtures strung up to reflect light over the space. It is a high ceiling with a domed painted ceiling of a map of the night sky with constellations traced together, and a wide area with lounge couches that are gilded and of luxury fabrics. Across from the four front doors, one must walk a long stretch to reach the front desk where rooms can be rented or other services inquired about. Just to the side of the front desk is the concierge's desk.

Past the dual flights of stairs that lead up to the hotel rooms, there are two hallways on both sides of this area. One leads to the ballroom (which can be rented as a venue) and the other to a bar and modest cafe where drinks and food can be ordered. Mostly the kitchen is meant for room service, but they often don't turn away people looking to eat while visiting either.

Alcoholic drinks are rare here, so the bar is more like a coffee, juice, and tea bar.

    Lower Levels
There is a steep stairwell that leads downstairs to basement levels. While the public can enter the first level, any farther and they will either have to be an employee or have express approval (and a badge to prove it) to be down there.
    • First Basement Level: Open to the Public.
The conference rooms can be used as a venue for meetings. The public offices can be rented if anyone wants to run smaller businesses out of the hotel.
      • Public Offices
      • Conference Rooms
    • Second Basement Level: Open to Paying Customers.
For those staying at the hotel, or those who've paid to use a venue like the ballroom or conference rooms, this level is open. There is a spa to relax at, but it's self-service with a sauna and materials kept in cupboards. Cleaners come by to clean up and help with any requests, while on their way to the laundry room.
      • Self-serve Spa
      • Laundry Services
    • 3-5th Basement Levels: Invitation and Escort Only or Part of the Assembly of the Abyss Faction.
These levels are mainly meant for the Assembly of the Abyss Faction, offering laboratory resources and space for storage.
      • Laboratory
      • Storage
    • 6th Basement Levels: Forbidden.
This level is forbidden except to those most trusted and/or high-ranked in Assembly of the Abyss. This is where interim records are kept for the faction's growing library.
      • Archives
      • Library
    Upper Levels
Once one settles their business, and if they have rented a hotel room, then they can go up either stair to reach the landing that proceeds to lead to a few different routes that lead upward into the higher floors where all the rooms are kept. The lower the floor, the cheaper it is. The higher the floor, the more expensive. This is reflected in the decor within the actual rooms, but all hallways maintain a neoclassical perfection of meticulous clean Tier 10 decoration.
    • Floors 1 - 5.
These are the Tier 3 to Tier 4 styled rooms, and often don't have windows included. They are meant for short-term stay and while the decor might be lacking, it's still comfortable and private.
      • 1-2 Beds rooms (short-term stay)
      • Tier 3 - Tier 4 Options. Often windowless.
      • Total Rooms: 120
    • Floors 6 - 15.
These are the Tier 3 to Tier 6 styled rooms, but meant for longer stays and often with windows included. This is usually where Assembly of the Abyss faction members stay.
      • 1-3 Beds rooms (short to long-term stay)
      • Tier 3 - Tier 6 Options. Small windows.
      • Total Rooms: 100
    • Floors 16 - 23.
These are the Tier 4 to Tier 8 styled rooms, always have windows, meant for either short or long-term stay. Invited guests who aren't actually paying can also stay here. However, the only invitations that can be handed out are specific and uniquely given from either the Owner or higher-ranking members of the Assembly of the Abyss.
      • 1-3 Beds rooms and living suites (short to long-term stay)
      • Invited Guests can stay on these Floors (see above about invitations).
      • Tier 4 - Tier 8 Options. Medium windows.
      • Total Rooms: 80
    • Floors 24 - 33.
These are the Tier 7 to Tier 9 styled rooms, always have windows - usually large and highly decorative. They are suites meant for long-term stay and can be used like apartments for how luxurious they are.
      • Suites (long-term stay)
      • Tier 7 - Tier 9 Options. Large windows.
      • Total Rooms: 40
    • Floors 34 - 39.
These are the Tier 8 to Tier 10 styled rooms, always have windows as well as private balconies. Same as before, they are meant for long-term stay and can be used like apartments if wanted. There are only 20 of these though, so there is no wiggle room when it comes to payments.
      • Suites (short to long-term stay)
      • Tier 8 - Tier 10 Options. Large windows and balconies.
      • Total Rooms: 20
    • Floors 40 - 45.

Front Desk

Image

Name: Thelma Anmorar
Nickname: Freckles (friends only)
Race: Human
Date of birth: 43 Ymiden, 688
Citizenship: Viden
Job Role: Head Front Desk
Skills: 30 Etiquette, 30 Endurance, 26 Business Management, 14 Detection

Appearance: Dark orange-red hair kept in a low messy bun. Wears dark clothing with high collars and long sleeves. Freckled skin and dark gray eyes. Average build.

Personality: Thelma is a meticulous worker who likes to keep an organized front desk. She isn't easily convinced or pushed over, willing and able to stand her ground - both figuratively and literally. She holds the keys to The North Star, and is quick to put a stop to any trouble in the lobby. She has a sharp eye for remembering faces and names, and the room numbers they are attached to.

Other information: Thelma is the most public figure of The North Star, and can be spoken with at the front desk (second is the Concierge, Melusine, who neighbors the front desk within visible sight). She'll answer any inquiries about either the business or related dealings to do within the space. Thelema is the person to ask questions of, to set up stays, and to record complaints.

Concierge

Image

Name: Melusine Cikuq
Nickname: Verglas
Race: Eidisi
Date of birth: 6 Cylus, Arc 697
Citizenship: Viden
Job Role: Head Concierge
Skills: 30 Intelligence, 30 Etiquette, 30 Combat (Blades), 10 Tactics

Appearance: Pale blue skin, dark black hair often tied into a braid so it is out of her way, blue eyes. She dresses in fitted suits of black and white. Her build is lean, taller than most.

Personality: Melusine, or more commonly referred to as Verglas, is a young but ambitious employee. She used to run the front of a lodge in Viden that her relatives owned, but when she heard of the North Star opening up, she quickly placed herself into a position that would make use of her growing information network. She is a tit-for-tat type of person, expecting favors and granting favors, but nothing is done for free or the good of her heart. She carries this into her concierge services, often making note of who returns the favors and who doesn't. She is also very protective of Thelma.

Other information: Melusine's concierge desk is located adjacent to the front desk, so the Eidisi can often be seen watching over Thelma as newcomers set up their stay. If a guest wants to find something, or needs guidance with the city, Melusine is the person to speak with.

Courier

Image

Name: Georgette "Gigi" Marguerite
Race: Mixed (Biqaj/Human)
Date of Birth: 12 Ashan 693
Skills: 50 Logistics, 20 Tactics, 20 Combat (Switchblade), 10 Deception, 10 Etiquette, 10 Dancing.

Appearance: 6' 1", slender.
Hair is usually curly or wavy, messy or tied up in some sort of bun.
Eye color is hazel. Skin is lightly tanned, rougher complexion on her hands and face than the rest of her.
FC: Ondria Hardin.

Personality:
Gigi is a self-sufficient woman from Rynmere who is used to traveling alone. She started work as a courier at a younger age, having fallen into a group of friends that wanted an excuse to travel out from their little corner of the world. It soon became smuggling, and Gigi isn't averse to illegal activities. She is bold, even wild at times, but isn't crass as she was raised in an extended family of well-renowned academics and scholars. Gigi has a natural enthusiastic energy to her, proactive in everything she does. The last thing one would ever catch Gigi doing is lying about or being lazy (unless she's pretending). Gigi is the type of woman who has a few tricks up her sleeves, but ultimately when things look bleak, she looks out for herself first and usually bolts. It is as pointless to try and pin her down as it is to nail pudding to a wall. She likes to keep on the move, and boasts of having delivered something to every city in Idalos. Her clients are frequently of higher status, nobles and the wealthy, rather than the average folk.

Security

Image

Name: Diamond Carolyn
Nickname: Cara (friends only).
Race: Human
Date of birth: 14 Saun, 683
Citizenship: Etzos
Job Role: Head Security.
Skills: 30 Strength, 30 Combat (Unarmed), 26 Combat (Thrown), 14 Detection

Appearance: Known for the streak of white in her otherwise raven-black cropped short hair, Diamond Carolyn is of muscular build with a shorter height (about 5' 4"). She has light gray eyes and a few pale scars here and there, with a handful of them on her face. She's missing a couple teeth.

Personality: Diamond Carolyn is known for being a tough cookie; it's where the Diamond part comes from. She was orphaned in Etzos at a young age, and rather than get adopted or seek shelter at the orphanage, she grew up on her own. Carolyn made her way through the arcs as a mercenary type, learning to fight just enough to get by. She has trust issues and disdain for most people, preferring to stay quiet. Her favorite thing in the world is to put a stop to a troublemaker (usually with her unexpectedly powerful fist).

Other information: Carolyn patrols the business, and if there is enough trouble, she usually shows up soon enough to put a halt to it. She will do everything in her power to assure the safety of the other employees, first and foremost.

Housekeeping

Image

Name: Dario Sabalj
Nickname: The Cleaner.
Race: Assumed Human.
Date of birth: Unknown, but sometime likely in Arc 694.
Citizenship: Unknown
Job Role: Head Housekeeper
Skills: 30 Caregiving, 30 Deception, 30 Persuasion, 10 Appraisal

Appearance: A rather sickly looking, ashen blond man who is on the taller side of heights. He wears spectacles and has a grayish-purple tint around his eyes and on his lips. He wears tight cleaning gloves, always. Commonly, he dresses in modest fitted attire of warm neutrals. The irises of his eyes are ghostly pale, and with the spectacles he wears, he might have poor vision.

Personality: He doesn't talk much, and can sometimes seem rude, but he will be helpful if something is requested like an extra blanket or pillow. Dario is a quiet, odd fellow who brings a sense of unease to any room that he is physically present in. However, when he's finished cleaning a room (and has left the premises), it will tend to feel very sanitized and inviting. He likes to give little flourishes to his job as well, having the housekeepers underneath him leave tiny origami animals on the nightstands of guests, or folding the towels in various designs. In the end, despite his eccentricities, Dario does like to help make things cozy and tidy.

Other information: Dario isn't seen very often... but when he is, it usually is in a corridor between cleaning rooms - or in a room, cleaning. He tends to stand and watch things from a distance, hovering in door frames and also eavesdropping through walls by leaning up against them. His specialty is cleaning out various types of bloodstains.

Psychiatry

Image

Name: Marica de Pasqual
Nickname: Marci
Race: Human
Date of birth: 54 Vhalar, Arc 681
Citizenship: Rharne
Job Role: Chief Psychiatrist
Skills: 30 Psychology, 30 Medicine, 30 Surgery, 10 Rhetoric

Appearance: A rather plain and average woman, with ashen brown hair kept long and an inclination for shiny and big jewelry. She likes to wear dresses and cloaks.

Personality: Marica has traveled a fair amount in her past, her father being a merchant. She has spent a lot of time in academics and tutoring, but wants to apply her knowledge to actual people. She is eager and happy to try and help at The North Star, often rerouting certain patients to the faction hidden just underneath the surface of the business itself.

Other information: Marica will be who you meet if you seek any counseling offered in the North Star's services. She is there for the mental wellbeing of guests as well, in the case of any conflicts that cannot be solved just with Security. From time to time, Marica hangs out at the hotel bar and talks with people without letting them know who she is.

Bar

Image

Name: Blanche Gillis
Nickname: Gilly (prefers to use)
Race: Human.
Date of birth: 105 Ashan, Arc 698
Citizenship: Scalvoris
Job Role: Head Bartender
Skills: 30 Mixology, 30 Discipline, 30 Detection, 10 Socialization

Appearance: Dark brown hair and dusty brown skin, with brown eyes, Blanche is quite aware of the irony of her name. She is petite, at about 4 ft 11 inches in height. She wears fitted trousers and a blouse with a vest, most of the time. She usually has a satchel belt around her hips to keep various tools at hand.

Personality: Blanche, or as she prefers to be called - Gilly, tends to be a middle-of-the-road sort. She isn't too far in any one direction, and so her personality tends to be rather mundane. There isn't much more to be said about it.

Other information: She can be found in the hotel bar, and she tends to keep with the Videnese discretion of only very little amounts of liquor. Her drinks are often watered down, and aren't meant to get anyone smashed - just a little tipsy at most. She'll call Security if someone gets drunk. Her preference is to mix non-alcoholic drinks!

Cook

Image

Name: Hayward Hutchinson
Nickname: Ward
Race: Human
Date of birth: 57 Zi'da, Arc 678
Citizenship: Viden
Job Role: Cook
Skills: 30 Cooking, 30 Baking, 30 Design, 10 Endurance

Appearance: A stern looking man, with pitch-black hair and fine facial hair. His eyes are black. He is of average build and height.

Personality: Ward is as stern as he looks, and he isn't the best cook - and he knows it, but don't say anything about it. While he'll claim to focus on the nutrition of meals, he has a secret interest in making dishes to look fancy. Because of this, he takes pride in his job.

Other information: Ward doesn't have a large staff, so it basically is just him cooking for whoever wants to eat. He will only make what's on the menu, and does not accept requests for changes. He is almost never seen, staying in the kitchen and letting wait-staff bring out the meals.

Hello Llyr. I am so sorry that it took me so long to get back with you on this location. It looks absolutely breath taking. I see no reason to keep you from moving forward with the location. I cannot wait to see what The North Star contributes to Viden. It is approved.
