Yeva worked the thick balm through her hair with one hand and grabbed her shoes with another. She was frantic, moving around the bedroom while trying to remember anything forgotten. On the nightstand were silver disk earrings which she grabbed and struggled to secure their backing and then she leaned forward to fuss with ankle clasps and stockings. Outside the door, she heard Azrael's voice call out, his talons drumming bored against the frame, "You're gonna be late."
Brown eyes looked up between peppermint curls,
"I know, I'm putting my shoes on now!"
Taking that as her being dressed, Azrael turned the door handle but came up short when he laid eyes on the medic, "You're dressed up."
"Well, yes. It's an awards ceremony," Yeva breathed a sigh of relief when she fixed her shoe and then jumped to her feet. She grabbed her bag, slinging the strap across her chest, hesitating under the scrutinizing gaze of the Avriel,
"It's not too much, is it?"
"No," he stepped closer, still staring, "I just don't see you in dresses often. Is that lip stain?"
She immediately covered her mouth, her voice hushed,
"Um, just a little. Callie said I could pick one and.... I wanted to try it," she was getting embarrassed, glimpsing at herself in the wall mirror. Perhaps red was too bold?
Azrael looked away, "You look fine, Yeva." Moving across he floor, he opened his wings to lounge across the bed, "I'm almost sorry I didn't go with you. Are you sure you'll be alright?"
After you-know-what?
Yeva smoothed her pink skirt,
"I know human events aren't exactly your favorite place to be," she went to grab her cloak, draped across the foot of the bed and then returned to peck the Avriel on the cheek in goodbye. He blinked in surprise and she smiled,
"Besides, Darius is taking me."
"Wait, who?"
"Darius Baer," she repeated for clarification, checking her bag for her coin purse should she need it,
"You remember? I met him at the traveling casino?"
"I certainly do not!"
"I thought I told you?" Yeva paused, looking up as she tried to recall the memory. She was sure she mentioned it over breakfast, but Azrael was often a poor listener when caught in his own affairs. Avriel pride, and all that,
"We played a few games, had a couple drinks. We're friends. He's really nice, you'll like him."
Azrael was trying with great difficulty to hide his jealousy,
"Well, you should have told me again!"
"Boohoo," Yeva smirked, eyebrows raising as she watched him get so upset,
"I've made lots other friends too. Alyssia, Balthazar, Abigail, Devin..." she grinned and reached for the door. Oh, the horror! Imagining she had a life outside of their own circle! Azrael's indignation struck her as funny.
"Where do you think you're going? We're not do-"
"Goodniiiiight!"
Yeva blew a kiss and shut the door behind her, laughing when she headed down the hallway. He'd be fuming for awhile, just as he always did.
Downstairs in the tavern, she spotted the sailor and nodded towards the door while waving happily towards the owner, whom she had grown familiar with while staying in her room,
"You ready?" she asked the sailor with a grin,
"I'm a bit nervous... Excited, though. It's been awhile since I've done anything like this..." Leaving the building and going down the street, she was thankful she was walking with a local. The last thing she needed was to get lost... again. She chatted a bit about the weather, and then gave a rough synopsis of a story she had read earlier that season, quieting when the Scholar's Nook came into view. Yeva nudged Darius in excitement as they entered cafe and held up an unusually bright and purple thimble they had found along the way, tucked in cracks of the cobblestone,
"I wonder who will win?"
