[Scalvoris] Drugs, Medicines & Poisons

Pustule
Image
Developed by Pegasus
Toxicity/Hazard: Highly toxic

Appearance: A small flower on the Pustule Tree, found in Scaltoth Jungle and Sweetwine Woods. The tree itself has large leaves, which shelter the pustules. Each one is a small sphere, roughly able to be held in the palm of the average human hand. The pustules are bright green and bumpy, each bump appearing to be a rather unpleasant, pus-filled spot. The pustule itself is very delicate and will burst with the slightest pressure. When it bursts, or is extracted, a thick greenish-yellow oooze comes out of it which has a truly horrible odour, which is where it's danger lies.

Properties: Highly toxic. Pustule Pus, as it is known, releases tiny airborn toxins and these are what is harmful. Breathing it in has an almost immediate effect of dizziness and nausea. This quickly progresses within minutes to the unfortunate recipient loosing all feeling in their body and being unable to move. Unfortunately for them, they can still feel pain and, in fact, breathing Pustule Pus seems to heighten the receptors.

Rarity: Found only in the Scaltoth Jungle & Sweetwine Woods

How To Use: The Pustule is only toxic for maximum two breaks after being picked from the tree and can not be stored / preserved, so these must be used quickly. Breathing in the pus is all that is needed.

Side Effects: None other than above.

Status: Illegal

Price: Can be purchased on the black market but is very expensive and dangerous to do so. Must be threaded and requested as a thread reward, linking to this write up.

[Scalvoris] Drugs, Medicines & Poisons

Image
Comet Dust

Developed by Tio Silver
Price: Can be purchased on the black market but is very expensive and dangerous to do so. Must be threaded and requested as a thread reward, linking to this write up.

Details: A new drug surfacing on Scalvoris, made with a method and ingredients that have yet to be identified, Comet Powder is considered by many to be the next big drug to hit the streets. It is currently hard to find due to being quite rare and the recipe still being a mystery, but more dealers peddling this product seem to be appearing every day. Ingesting Comet Powder gives a person a pleasant rush and a feeling of being smarter and calmer for about half a trial, and the more foolish addicts believe that the drug actually increases the taker's intelligence.
How To Use: Consumed in pill or powdered form.
Side Effects: Although harmless at first, taking this drug regularly can lead to addiction in about a season. Chemists at the university have theorised that this drug can lead to the development of sociopathic behaviour, though no evidence of this has been discovered yet.
Status: Illegal

Re: [Scalvoris] Drugs, Medicines & Poisons

Image
Veternas

Developed by Darius Baer.
Price: For the Order of Adunih only. This item is not for sale. Can be purchased on the black market but is very expensive and dangerous to do so. Must be threaded and requested as a thread reward, linking to this write up.

Details: Veternas takes its name - and its main ingredient - from the veternum plant, which is known for a pollen that can cause numbness and loss of consciousness. This pollen, once collected and ground down, can be used as a sedative and an anaesthetic for people and animals alike.

How To Use: Small doses, diluted with water, can be ingested to treat insomnia; stronger doses can enable a patient to be sedated for the purposes of treating more serious complaints without subjecting the patient to the extreme pain they would usually experience. Alternatively, a small amount can be rubbed against the skin to provide pain relief for surface injuries, though it does nothing to treat the injuries themselves. It is always recommended that practitioners err on the side of caution and use smaller doses rather than larger ones.

Side Effects: When used in small, controlled doses, there should be no side effects. However, the higher the dosage, the more powerful the effect. In the case of an extreme dose, patients could be rendered paralysed or in a comatose state until the effects wear off - if they do at all. Because of the potency of veternas, it is forbidden to be used on children or small animals except under the most extreme circumstances.

Status: Legal for members of the Order of the Adunih. Illegal for all other citizens due to its potency and the risk of overdose.

Stink Cabbage
Image
Developed by Devin
Price: Tier 3
Out of Tier Purchase: 1 WP/ 10 cabbages
Found: Stink Cabbage can be found all over Scalvoris. It isn’t particularly picky as to where it grows.
Toxicity/Hazard: None, apart from the smell.
Appearance: Stink Cabbage doesn’t look in any way special. It looks just like normal, green cabbage. It’s even the same size. The only difference is the smell, which means that someone who suffers from anosmia won’t be able to tell Stink Cabbage and normal cabbage apart.
Properties: Stink Cabbage has several properties. The first and best-known “property” is its smell. When Stink Cabbage is fresh, it smells like unwashed feet which is not a particularly pleasant smell. It gets worse when the leaves are dried though. It also has a second, much less well-known property though. The dried leaves can be used to make an ointment with antibiotic properties that is quite effective. Unfortunately, few herbalists in Scalvoris stock Stink Cabbage, and few doctors make the ointment them due to the pungent smell. Furthermore, Stink Cabbage is actually quite tasty – if you get over the smell.
Other Information: Due to the terrible smell of the dried leaves, some especially naughty children like to use them for pranks.

Re: [Scalvoris] Drugs, Medicines & Poisons

Mori Cream
Image
Developed by Yeva
Price: Tier 7
Details: Mori Cream is a relatively new form of contraceptive in Idalos discovered by scientist, Morrigan Driskale, during her research of Scalvoris wildlife. Extracted largely from the roots and petals of the flora it originates from, it is considered a pleasant smelling topical preventative and is coveted largely for its dual usage as a successful sexual lubricant. While in high demand, its creation is time consuming and so it has remained pricey in comparison to alternative options, such as Moseke Mist.
How To Use: Apply to the genital area in generous amounts prior to sexual intercourse.
Side Effects: Unlike some oral contraceptives which may cause upset in the body or internal distress, Mori Cream rarely carries painful side effects when used by healthy humans. It should be noted that those with sensitive skin or open wounds may be at risk. Routine abuse of the product can cause skin irritation and/or an inflamed rash, most distinguishable by the double red rings outlining the afflicted area.

Re: [Scalvoris] Drugs, Medicines & Poisons

Image
Azulin

Developed by Ari'sora
Price: For Order of the Adunih use only. Can be purchased on the black market but is very expensive and dangerous to do so. Must be threaded and requested as a thread reward, linking to this write up.
Details: Azulin is the name of a number of drugs and remedies that can be made out of the plant that bears the same name. The herb can be used fresh or dried, and each part of the plant can be used to make different drugs and remedies that have different effects. Different parts of the herb can be combined to make drugs and remedies that have more than one effect. But this should only be done by someone who is expert level or higher in Medicine/Poisons due to the risk of poisoning the patient.

Flowers: Azulin flowers can be used either fresh or dried, and have different effects depending on whether they are fresh or dried as well as who takes them. The flowers can be used to create teas, and tinctures that can be drunk or applied externally and absorbed through the skin, or a powder that can be inhaled. This drug acts as a powerful aphrodisiac for males that lasts for three breaks; it is vitally important that no more than a single dose is taken at a time. Overdosing will result in the male being driven to copulate with anyone of the gender he is usually attracted to for a period of up to three trials (this can be countered by master level discipline, magic/artifacts/blessings that help people resist urges, or by avoiding people until it wears off). The drug will work on males of any species. When dried Azulin flowers are used to make the drug and it is given to a female, it will ensure that the female will be impregnated -if it is possible for her to be so - if she has sex within the following 20 hours. This drug is riskier to use than Saikuru because it will ensure multiple births with twins being the most common, but up to quintuplets are possible. It will work on females of any species, making it a popular drug among animal breeders who breed animals that produce litters of offspring naturally; the larger the litters produced, the more offspring they can sell, and when used on an animal, the drug ensures that they give birth to the highest range of their litter size. So if an animal gives birth to 5-11 offspring in a litter, the use of this drug will guarantee they give birth to 11 young, and they may give birth to up to 5 more than their maximum litter size would normally be but this can lead to difficult birthing, and potentially the death of the mother. When fresh Azulin flowers are used to make the drug and it is given to a female, it acts as a powerful aphrodisiac that lasts for three breaks. This makes it a very popular drug in brothels. Unlike the drug made from dried Azulin flowers, in this form pregnancy is not ensured.

Azulin roots make a powerful sedative when made into a tea or tincture, or powdered and blown into someone's face. Fresh roots are more potent than dried and shouldn't be used on children. In its purest form it can be used as a knockout drug, or by healers who are performing surgery, but it can also be diluted with other herbs to create a milder sedative that can be used as a remedy for someone who is having trouble sleeping. There is no risk of addiction when using Azulin roots, but an overdose runs the risk of the patient/victim never waking up.

The pollen of the Azulin plant causes hallucinations that can be either pleasant or nightmarish. It is often taken as a means of escaping reality for a while. The effects can last up to a full trial depending on how pure the dose is. This drug is most commonly inhaled, but the pollen can be mixed in liquid and drunk as well. The drug is not addictive if used once or infrequently (once a season or less), but a little of it remains in the system each time it is used. Because of this, it can be addictive if used frequently. Overdosing and using it too often risk being trapped in hallucinations for the remainder of one's life.

Azulin leaves can be made into a tea or tincture that heightens senses, including pain and pleasure. The five main senses, vision, smell, taste, touch and hearing are three times as sharp as normal when under the influence of this drug. The senses of pain and pleasure and fifteen times sharper. The leaves can be either fresh or dried, but the fresh ones are more potent. In tea form, the effects last for five breaks. The tincture is stronger (and more expensive), so the effects will last for a full trial. There is no risk of addiction, but overdosing (using it two trials in a row) has an increasingly strong risk of the effects becoming permanent; the bigger the overdose, the higher the chance of the effects becoming permanent.

The glowing core of the Azulin flower can be dried and made into a tea or used fresh as a poultice that is absorbed into the skin. Using this form of Azulin stretches one's sense of time so that a single trill can feel like a break. The effects of this drug last three to five breaks. It is a very effective tool in interrogation. It can also be used as an aid in meditation. There is no risk of addiction when using this drug, but in some circumstances (for example, if the person under the influence of this drug suffers pain), there is a risk of the person using it going insane.

The stems of the Azulin plant can be made into a tea that will strengthen the body to help it fight off illness and infection/recover from injury faster. Fresh stems are more potent than dried ones, but they may cause nausea. They should not be used by children or those who have delicate stomachs.

How To Use: Varies depending on which part of the plant is used to make the drug. All parts of the plant can be used.
Side Effects: It depends on which part of the plant is used to make the drug.

Ether Dust

Developed by Balthazar Black
Price: Can be purchased on the black market but is very expensive and dangerous to do so. Must be threaded and requested as a thread reward, linking to this write up.
Details: Ether Dust is a drug commonly believed to have been manufactured within Emea however the truth it that it is really a combination of many unsavory things found around Scalvoris, however the sellers would never admit that. Ether Dust gives your average citizen the feeling that they have become a mage of their desired discipline without actually giving them the abilities. It is a powerful hallucinogenic drug that causes the those who use it to see visions of magic. The actual effect of the drug varies depending on who is using it but it always makes an individual believe they have magical powers that they do not in fact have. This has caused a large number of accidental suicides (people thinking they can fly who can not) and it has been the root of some more recent homicides when users, believing themselves to have the powers of a spark, challenged their rivals to fights they had no hope of winning.
How To Use: It is typically inhaled through the nose however it can be dissolved in water to produce an injectable serum. Others have noted some successful use by placing it under the tongue. The primary difference in how it is used is the result of long term exposure to the drug.
Side Effects: While short term use of Ether Dust can be hazardous (the feeling of invincibility does not make you invincible), long term use of the drug can lead to yellowing of the eyes, loss of a sense of taste, uncontrollable itching around the injection zone, and frequent nosebleeds/headaches.
Status: Illegal.

Re: [Scalvoris] Drugs, Medicines & Poisons

Sunny Down Lotion

Developed by Kalortah
Price: Tier 6 or 2 wp for a thirty day supply.
Details: A topical agent used to apply to the feathers of avian creatures (and avriel). It can protect the wings from exposure to moisture, just like aquatic birds such as ducks, geese, and swans. When applied to the feathers of an avian creature, water and moisture will simply roll off, and when they come out of the water, their feathers will appear perfectly dry.
How To Use: Either apply to the feathers of the creature/individual in question, or have another person help you with it. Liberal application is counterproductive, just a thin layer over the feathers gently applied is all that's needed.
Side Effects: Less a side effect and more of a happy consequence of keeping the feathers dry, Sunny Down Lotion can stave off the effects of fungal aloplumia (feather baldness that is caused by fungus/mold).
Status: Legal.

Muter Fish
Image
Developed by Yeva
Price: Tier 6
Habitat: Underwater caves and nighttime shorelines.
Lifespan and Development:
Diet: These carnivorous fish are known for eating just about anything that will fit in their mouth. Highly territorial, their eyes pulse a warm glow, attracting both mates and more importantly, curious fish, which they then shoot towards with devasting speed in an effort to capture them in their large needle lined maw.
Temperament: Aggressive, Territorial
Abilities: The eyes of the Muter Fish are often called 'liquid gold', known for their jelly that gives off a bright glow in even the darkest of waters. When harvested, this substance is a highly potent pain inhibitor and is coveted by surgeons for its ability to numb even the more gruesome of injuries.

Image
Developed by Ari'sora
Toxicity/Hazard: They are poisonous if eaten,

Appearance: Dark purple flowers with a reddish purple and yellow center.

Properties:
Poison:
Roots Touching the roots with bare skin will leave the area the roots came into contact with feeling numb; a brief touch will leave you numb for a break while holding/touching the roots for three bits or longer will leave you numb for several breaks. Feeling returns slowly over the course of a break along with an intense tingling/pins and needles sensation.
These roots can be made into a powerful paralytic poison that leaves people unable to move but still able to feel everything.

Flowers Eating the flowers will cause intense stomach cramps that start within a matter of bits after eating them and worsen over the next breaks. Death is a possibility if left untreated, depending on the amount eaten. Full recovery can take trials.
