Council Meeting: Rebirth 720

Closed until 1st Feb 2020. On 1st Feb post rules will be posted.

Almund is a thriving township with a dark side. With houses made from the wooden bodies of decommissioned ships, there are many opportunities here, coupled with many dangers.

"Alright," said Brandel, looking around the room. As always, the Council members sat in the central area, each in their assigned seat. The public gallery was full to bursting and he knew that everyone was wondering what was happening. "I've come to a conclusion, and I'm going to share it here." He looked around, his eyes lighting on each Council member individually. "I've shared it with some of you already, others, it will come as a surprise. But, I suspect, not a shock." He smiled, then said quite clearly. "It's my birth-trial today. I was born eighty arcs ago today." There was no sense of celebration in his tone, he simply spoke softly, factually, and then he got to the heart of the matter.

"And I am too old for this."

Gesturing at the existing council members, he gave a shrug. "I have no wish to see, or to allow or encourage the falling like vultures which is about to happen, so I suggest you stop it before it begins. As is my right, in law and by morality, I have identified my own successor." He was right. This was written in law. "And therefore, a whole new set of votes must be cast for all positions which are not representatives of villages or populations. All Officers of the Council must be either re-voted in or a new one volunteers or is nominated by your new Albarech."

He stood up and motioned to Kura. "A trusted member of the Council, you've never been afraid to argue with me. You won't be bullied or bribed and your part in the recent war makes you, and all those who took part, a hero."

Then, he looked around the room. "So marks the start of a new Alberach for Scalvoris. As is customary, I will remain available in an advisory position for a cycle, should it be needed, but I hereby formally and willingly rescind my rights to vote." He looked, it had to be said, rather old and very tired.

What that now meant was that nominations for each existing Council position - and any new ones perceived as necessary were open. Non-members need to raise their hands and, when invited to speak, put forward their case. Existing members needed to stand and make a claim for their seat.
 ! Message from: Thread Rules
There are a few rules which apply here.
1. If you are a Council member you must be in this thread. If you are not in this thread, you are no longer a Council member, no matter what. No exceptions.
2. There are PC Council members not listed below.
3. If you want to be involved in Scalvoris politics - this is your chance. In your next post assume that you raise your hand, are given permission to speak, and do so. I will determine the NPC reactions.
4. If you wish to observe only, you are more than welcome to do so. This thread is open to anyone.
5. Remember - you can make up new Council Roles (like the Member for Ice Cream, for example) - if you do this you will need to justify why the role is needed - AND why you would be best for it.
 ! Message from: Moderation Specifics
I will post here once a week That will be every Sunday.
If something has a specific timeframe - I will make that clear.
NPC Lists

Albarech

Image
Name: Brandel
Race: Human
Age: Born 640
Title: Albarech of Scalvoris Council
Skills: NA: Prophet only NPC. You don't need to know! :D
Other Information: Previously the resident on Watch, a job he held for 20 arcs, Brandel was unanimously elected to the position of Albarech by his peers immediately upon the decision that there'd be one. He is very focused on the island and its well-being, without family or any other hobbies to distract him he works tirelessly. He hated the Pirate Lords and all they stood for and he is determined that, on his Watch, he will do good for the island and her people.

Militant

Image
Name: Rand Broson
Race: Sev'ryn / Human
Age: Born 667
Title: Militant of Scalvoris Council / Militant of Elemental
Skills: NA: Prophet only NPC. You don't need to know! :D
Other Information: Rand is a hard, fair man. He doesn't speak much as he believes that you learn a lot more by listening than you ever will by talking. He is the head of the Scalvoris Military (the Elements) and he is very proud of that job. A hard working man, he tends towards solitude and does not make friends easily. He has a temper, as his troops will attest and he will not back down when he believes he is right.

Accountant

Image
Name: Sidhe'nn Fraear
Race: Human
Age: Born 679
Title: Accountant of Scalvoris Council
Skills: NA: Prophet only NPC. You don't need to know! :D
Other Information: Sidhe'nn is a cold, calculating and utterly callous individual whose bottom line is money. He doesn't care if giving a little bit less money to a cause means the twenty five hungry children or vulnerably elderly folk die. However, what he does care about is keeping his well paid job and ensuring that he maintains his own lifestyle. Therefore, he does his job well and he follows the whim and ethos of the council. He used to do the same for the Pirate Lords and he was probably more vicious than at least seventeen of them put together. Now, he is an excellent member of the team and works his very best within the confines he is given.

Devout

Image
Name: Reza
Race: Human
Age: Born 690
Title: Overseer of the Shrines
Skills: More than the other write up. But you don't need to know!
Other Information: Reza is a woman of few words. She has responsibility for the island and, somehow, everyone knows this. No one knows who appointed her, but no one argues either. She is a peace keeper and she maintains keeping the peace by whatever means necessary, including drastic measures. She will help visitors by directing them to the shrine they are looking for but no more than that, usually.

Trainer

Image
Name: Marcelle Tren
Race: Mixed Blood
Age: Born 687
Title: Trainer of Scalvoris Council
Skills: NA: Prophet only NPC. You don't need to know! :D
Other Information: An educator of children by trade, Marcelle would be the first person to tell you that she is out of her depth in this whole Council thing. But she's doing her best and she has a sharper mind than she gives herself credit for. She is a passionate teacher and a friendly woman. Also, she isn't afraid of conflict and has the skills of managing a classroom of five arc olds. Veteran soldiers have quivered and quaked at her stare.

Academic

Image
Name: James Witchbane
Race: Human
Age: Born 664
Title: Academic of Scalvoris Council
Skills: NA: Prophet only NPC. You don't need to know! :D
Other Information: James is an enthusiastic individual whose personality strongly resembles that of a puppy. He is enthused by learning, loves people and thinks the best of them. He is a dreamer, an optimist and determined to see the good in everyone. He loves swimming in the ocean (even when it's freezing) and never feels more free than in that moment of diving into the water.

Merchant

Image
Name: Francis LeShard
Race: Mixed Blood
Age: Born 687
Title: Merchant of Scalvoris Council
Skills: NA: Prophet only NPC. You don't need to know! :D
Other Information: Francis is a shrewd businesswoman who is here representing the Merchants' Guild. Really that is exactly and only who she is representing. She has worked as a businesswoman throughout the north and east of Idalos and her bottom line is the profit. She is nice, friendly and polite to everyone. She would also sell her grandmother for the right price.

Almundian

Image
Name: Jo'ne Tide
Race: Mixed Blood
Age: Born 691
Title: Almund Representative of Scalvoris Council
Skills: NA: Prophet only NPC. You don't need to know! :D
Other Information: Jo'ne is the Mayor of Almund. Her father was a pirate and his father before him. Her mother was a whore and her grandmother a drug dealer and the bane of the seas. Jo'ne is a foul mouthed, tobacco chewing woman who will take no nonsense from anyone.

Darbytonian

Previous Darbytonian was assassinated on Ashan 123, 718. Seat will be open for nominations by Darbytonian citizens, and voted upon by the council members during a Council Meeting in Vhalar 718.

Egg

Image
Name: Liza
Race: Human / Sev'ryn
Age: Born 694
Title: The Merchant Quen
Skills: Negotiation: 65, Appraisal: 65, Business Management, 60, Seduction: 50, Glassblowing: 50
Other Information: Liza is a friendly woman who has taken the rag tag nature of Egilrun and turned it into a place for trade. She is keen business woman who is more than able to strike a hard bargain. She is hoping to strengthen trade negotiations with Viden and to be able to supply them useful and unusual goods. She is loyal and tenacious and will always work for the betterment of Egilrun specifically and Scalvoris generally.

Gunvortonian

Image
Name: Shania
Race: Unknown
Age: Unknown
Title: Gunvorton Overseer
Skills: Unknown
Other Information: If there is one thing which everyone agrees on, it is that Shania is a nice lady. Friendly, helpful and always willing to help out, she is the backbone of the growing region on Gunvorton. She knows everyone, it seems, and she's always there should anyone need a little bit of information. She runs the local inn and it is her job, as she tells everyone, to make sure that all who come to her establishment leave just a little bit happier.

Havardreen

Image
Name: Linca
Race: Biqaj
Age: Born 678
Title: Chief of the village of Havardr
Skills: Other things too. Need to know....
Other Information: Linca is the chief of Havardr, the hardest worker on the island, some say, and a straight talking fellow. He will trade, but he won't be fiddled and is a hard negotiator.

Proper

Image
Name: Leigh Birch
Race: Human
Age: Born 693
Title: Scalvoris Town Representative of Scalvoris Council
Skills: NA: Prophet only NPC. You don't need to know! :D
Other Information: Leigh is the Mayor of Scalvoris Proper. She lives there and has her offices there. She is a friendly and very well organised woman who is keen to listen to all of the opinions on offer. She has trouble sometimes as she can have a bit of a tendency to avoid conflict, but that just means that she sits back and doesn't take sides. It certainly doesn't mean that she's lacking opinions.

Re: Council Meeting: Rebirth 720

Image
Kura was slightly annoyed that her cover had been blown. She had participated in the battle against Ellasin, but due to being part of the air cavalry, she had been too far away to see what had happened at the center, necessitating that she had been filled in some time after the fact. However, several of the Elements had recognized some of her tricks from her adventures on Scalvoris and rumors had begun to circulate that she was alive and had been present for the fight against Ellasin. Rather than let that go on, she had decided to reveal herself on her own terms and had told Brandel that she would be present at the first council meeting of 720.

So it was that she found herself in Almund and heading for the council halls to take up her old job. She was wearing what she was now considering her combat outfit, the black coat over black shirt, pants, and boots. Several of the Scalvonites recognized the Councilor of Foreign Affairs as she walked through the streets, and she smiled and waved to those who called out to her. When she finally made it to the Council Hall, she greeted the rest of the Council fairly warmly and took her seat, waiting as the audience filled up. There was always a brief delay at the start as the onlookers arrived, but she knew Brandel would start things off soon.

However, Kura had not know that he was retiring, and she was curious as to who he would pick as his successor. When he named her, however, she blinked in surprise, then focused herself and nodded at him. When he stood down from his seat, Kura stood and walked over to him, shaking his hand. "Thank you, Brandel, for everything you've done for Scalvoris. I'll do my best to keep our people safe." she said, her tone sincere. Brandel had helped to found the Council, to make Scalvoris better than it had been, and he had earned his retirement.

Before she took her new seat, however, she turned to the Council and the audience. "A moment, please, before we continue. First off, I should explain my recent absence and the news of my death. Ellasin, the foe we faced in the past war, had planned to have me assassinated. Through careful use of spies, we got word of this well before her planned attempt. With the aid of several associates, my own death was faked, so that I might be able to strike at Ellasin from the shadows, where she would least expect me. I apologize for any distress this caused anyone, be they family, friends, councilors, or citizens." she said, bowing to the assembly.

When she stood up, Kura looked at the assembled peoples. "There are matters we must discuss today, of course, but first we must attend to the matter of filling out the rest of the Council. I know there are those among our audience who could be well suited to join the council, but I would let them speak for themselves. So rather than delay the nominations and claims any longer than is necessary, let me simply say that as Alberach, my only goal is the safety and well-being our people." she said, before taking her new seat at the head of the Council. Fortunately, she'd already had Phelan and Rahmet among the audience, looking for any signs of trouble. They didn't need her orders to be even more alert with this news. Meanwhile, Kura watched the Council itself, as well as those who sought to join the Council from without, giving those who asked to speak the permission they needed to make their case.

Re: Council Meeting: Rebirth 720

By all assessments, spectating the political arena was as close to the definition of a snooze-fest as anything else Max could imagine. She'd never been to any sort of governing forum before. She imagined it consisted of a lot of boring discussion, witty quips that went insignificantly over her head, and a whole lot of wasted time better spent on action rather than soliloquy. There was not one ounce of respect in her bones for any authority on the island, military or otherwise. She hated every body poised in a council seat. All but maybe one. That singular one was most of the reason she came to bear witness to...whatever happened here.

Maxine stood as far to the back of the meeting as possible. Her back was against the wall near a corner, positioned in a place where she could see most everyone around her and at least two quick exits. Her hips felt light without her gladius strapped to her waist, but Maxine was never without protection. Her hands were still clothed in unassuming, fingerless gloves that had always served her well; and carefully tucked in a pocket of her dark Cloak of Hiding rested a small collection of throwing daggers should she need a blade. The Elements had been quick to all but strip-search her, and she'd clenched her jaw while they put hands on her so hard she thought she'd break her own teeth, the hidden weapons were never found. That didn't mean she was feeling comfortable once past security.

Arms crossed, the cursed woman was working. Every body that passed her got a secondary sweep with her gaze. She'd gotten good at assessing people for what they were now, quickly gathering whether they fit the mold or presented an uncomfortable anomaly like herself. Though she was enslaved to one person's beck and call, she had not been ordered here. There was a time when Kura had brought it to her attention that she too believed the Council could not be trusted. She apparently believed that enough to enlist Max in the ploy to bring about her fake death. It was her full intention to ensure that Kura lived to fulfill her promise.

Some old man stood and blathered nonsense about age and service while everyone else fell quiet to listen. The Rusalka fought the urge to roll her eyes and immediately tuned him out, more focused on reading her environment than whatever urgent council matter he had to bring to the collective attention. Then she heard something about the stupid war and heroism, a gag-worthy topic, and a successor was named. Max raised a brow and brought her gaze back toward the politicians, watching the possessor of her leash stand to graciously accept the promotion to...whatever that word the old guy said was his leading title.

What am I supposed to do? Clap or some shit?

"Well, damn, Councilor," Maxine murmured to herself with a smirk. As much as she hated the Council like she hated sobriety, there was no denying her private relief in this line of succession. Kura wasn't a Cultist. She facilitated her arrest, but she spoke against her incarceration for what that was worth. She could've hanged her, imprisoned her, or become a cruel, unrelenting master as of late. Instead, the Mortalborn had denied stooping to any of that. If there was any hope Max would change her mind about the governing body of the island, it was in this particular person's power.

It also occurred to her that she was now possibly linked to the most powerful figure in Scalvoris. The shadows in her mind had expanded their real estate as of late, and that darker part relished in the opportunities this revelation brought.

This is something to exploit.

She's a bigger target now than she ever was before.

The beholden spectator sighed irritably and looked to the crowd and other politicians for their reaction. It was easier to pretend to busy herself with external stimuli than to acknowledge the internal war of turmoil beginning to be waged in her head.

All hail Kura, Alberach of Scalvoris.

Tio grinned to himself from amidst the crowd as he watched Kura be appointed to her new position. She really was practically an empress now, proving once and for all that his ability to give people nicknames more fitting than their real names was a genuine thing. It had been about an arc since he'd last seen Empress, but during that time he'd learnt some interesting things about her. Karem herself had told him flat out that Kura was her daughter, not to mention that fact that the two of them had apparently formed some kind of low-level mental bond without realising it, and damn if he couldn't see the family resemblance in her now. Both shared those piercing eyes and that viciously enticing yet terrifying vibe. What exactly Empress' mortalborn domains were was a mystery, but based upon that trick she'd done with the shadowy owl demon in their last meeting Tio was willing to take a guess or two.

As much as he would have liked to pretend that he was only here to cheer Kura on in her moment of glory, in truth Tio was here for a far more selfish reason. Out of all the holy places he'd ever been the Immortal's Tongue was clearly the most powerful, and there was a very real chance that he might be able to unlock more of his immortal powers there. Problem was that he didn't think many people would be very happy with him if he started plundering the shrines for knowledge. The Devout was all but guaranteed to step in and get in his way and he doubted he'd be able to search all the shrines without being discovered, which meant that if he wanted to poke around he'd need to somehow get permission from the council to do so. Fortunately today presented a golden opportunity to do just that.

Tio was the first in the crowd to put his hand up and step forward to speak. The old Alberach nodded to him in silent permission to begin, and immediately Tio kicked off the floor and floated up into the air just above the head height of the crowd so that everyone could see him. Tio had been something of a known face on Scalvoris, but as far as most people knew he'd just vanished last arc without a trace. Only a handful people knew that he was the one behind the bone mask they'd seen in a dream of chaos and death, and only the people of Egilrun had seen him since he'd returned last season.

"Afternoon ladies and gentlemen. My name is Tio Silver." Tio began to say, speaking in fluent Scalveen as a not-so-subtle reminder that he was well and truly part of their culture. He called upon every thread of his persuasive charm, flashing them all a bright smile as he turned to address the crowd. "Now I'm afraid I can't claim to be anything as impressive as a war hero like our glorious new Alberach, but some of you might know that I've done quite a bit to defend Scalvoris in my time. I was there to help when a plague threatened to spill out from the Immortal's Tongue onto the mainland, and when that crazy cult blew up the docks. I've won the Darbyton Derby, explored fractures, and protected Faldrass from a pack of undead beasts. Basically I've been on some pretty big adventures."

He lowered his voice, almost to a stage whisper, and drew in closer to the crowd. "But what you don't know is that I've had a lot more subtle adventures as well, many of which have lead me to make some interesting acquaintances." He smirked mysteriously, leaning forward like a storyteller around a campfire. "I've met the Immortals. Lots of them. And I don't mean in the spiritual sense, I mean up close, face-to-face talking. Pier, Pre, Delroth and Vri. Ilaren, Edasha, Karem and Syroa. U'frek, Ymiden, Cassion, Faldrun... The list goes on and on and on. I've wielded their power and suffered their wrath, earned their blessing and their curses, and have given up and overcome them both. What I'm saying is that I've experienced firsthand their hopes, strengths and temperaments. I've come to know the Immortals personally, and they know me. Yet I do not stand with any of them more than the others. I am neutral, impartial, and therefor in a position to negotiate with all sides equally." His smirk grew into a cheeky grin. "Plus if worst comes to worst I'm pretty handy in a fight, and can do way more weird stuff than just float."

He hovered back up a little higher into the air and spun around, letting his voice fill the room. "Which is why I'd like to throw my hat into the ring for the position of the Devout! Whatever divine issues anyone faces across the island just let me know and I'll be there to resolve them! I can guard you from the things no ordinary human can, so please..." He threw his arms out in a big, dramatic gesture. "Vote Tio!"

Re: Council Meeting: Rebirth 720

Nir'wei had never seen the Alberach before. For that matter, he didn't actually know what an Alberach did, but the promise of an important announcement seemed more than enough to draw a crowd, and Nir'wei could not help but sate his curiosity with such a perfect opportunity to find out. Admittedly, as he squeezed through the throng of the viewing gallery to get a proper look at the full scope of the Council, he found himself slightly disappointed in finding they were just the dignitaries of the Scalvoris government. A bunch of pen-pushers and thinkers, sitting behind desks and passing judgement on the world from inside dusty libraries, bah! Even the Alberach himself looked like he was struggling to avoid collapsing into dust where he sat, but at least he seemed to accept the fact without fanfare or self-pity. It was the most graceful way to go about it.

A new Alberach. A new leader. He'd never even known the name of the current one, why should anyone care about something so--

He'd never noticed Kura sitting in the ring of chairs, but the moment hands and eyes turned towards her, a vague memory sparked. Yes, she was supposed to be some councillor or something, wasn't she? An ambassador and representative for all of Scalvoris' allies. Now, successor, and the leading authority of all of Scalvoris. Quite the promotion, if he did say so himself. She seemed to take it in stride as well, giving a nice but brief speech. Wait. Hold up. Filling out the rest of the council?

Alright, it went without saying that he didn't have a single political bone in his body. He couldn't tell his promises from his contracts, and he sure-as-shit wasn't planning on sitting back and ordering other people to go and do the things he was perfectly capable of just doing himself. The way Kura had spoken had sounded somewhat pointed though. Among the audience. They were going to literally just let anyone in all of Scalvoris stand up and claim positions for themselves among the Council? Apparently choosing a new Alberach was a much bigger thing than he'd imagined it to be. In Rynmere, the rise and fall of Kings seemed to mean next-to-nothing-at-all for the Dukes. Desnind had five pillars that shared control and never seemed to bother who was on top, and Rharne had reached the very reasonable conclusion of putting an Immortal in charge and never worrying about changes in authority for the rest of all freaking time. He'd never really heard of an entire political system collapsing and rebuilding itself from the ground whenever a new leader took charge.

"This is your chance," Arch whispered in his ear. "What you've been waiting for." It was true, he'd been preparing for the eventuality of a stalemate with the Council. He had plans, after all, that he knew they probably wouldn't agree with. He needed resources that he already knew they wouldn't provide. He needed powers that they wouldn't tolerate... and he'd be putting them to uses that had the potential to throw the entire island into war. Faldrun wasn't a hated figure here, not like Rharne; his battles were with the other Immortals, not insignificant mortal settlements. Was this the way he wanted to do it, though? The moment he stood would be the moment he ceased being an independent party in all of this. He'd have duties, responsibilities, strings to tie him down and keep him grounded. The other option, however, was going toe-to-toe with Kura, and whoever took his place. A dangerous gamble.

As the floor opened, Nir'wei raised his hand. One of the councilors gestured his way and granted permission, letting the room quieten. Here went nothing.

"You've got a serious problem with containing the wildlife." He didn't need to mention all the things that had already grown too far for the Elements to handle. "I see the notice boards growing bigger every day. Not just talking about creatures causing a nuisance to farmers and travelers; scholars need wildlife guides for their expeditions, and events natural and unnatural alike are constantly sparking all over the islands that the Elements can't possibly control, because they don't know how. You need someone who can read the land and control it." He raised his chin a fraction. "I'd like to take the role. I've worked in Rynmere for arcs, training and raising Jacadons and Volareons. I've worked here, raising Enormowls and Scalv Sohr Khal. I've worked in Rharne with Storm Rocs, and I've been in Desnind working with every animal with more than two legs. If there's anyone qualified to handle the nature of Scalvoris and bring it to heel, it's most likely me. And I'd like to be your Councillor of that." The last part he directed straight at Kura. Even if his Charm of Anonymity kept his face a secret, he slightly hoped that his credentials would be enough to pass the bar... and if not, that she recognised his voice.

Rebirth Cycle 720
~~1st Cylus 720~~

There was murmuring around the room and then a sort of judgemental silence as Kura took her place. Brandel had been a popular choice for Albarech and, what was easy to forget was that he had been the first - and only leader Scalvoris had known since the Pirate Lords. So, there was that quiet that was clear and somehow, the silence was as filled with a message as if they were shouting. This was not a welcome change.

Now, that's not to say that the feeling was anti-Kura, it was simply more a case that it was anti-change and pro-Brandel. Still, Maxine who was in the audience, would see and hear the grumblings. The muttering and tuttering of those who were not best pleased. There were feelings of liking Kura - even respecting her. But there was also a very clear sense of 'but she's not Brandel' about the place.

But - Kura did everything right. She was respectful to Brandel, she was clear and spoke of the island in an inclusive manner. She was, after all, a very well liked and well-respected woman and she played the game of politics with consummate ease. A single speech wasn't going to win over hearts and minds - but it certainly didn't do any harm. By the time she invited people to speak up - there was already a shift towards a feeling of 'we'll see' rather than 'I don't like it' - which was probably the best she could hope for.

And then, they started to speak. First Tio Silver spoke and people listened. Then - they voted. the way that the votes worked was simple. People put a token into a box. Yes went into one box, no into another. Tio, of course, had the issue of standing against Reza - or he would be if she stood. Yet, she did not and when they checked, there were no words from her, just a shake of her head. She nodded at Tio and smiled; it was predatory. "It is his. Immortals Tongue is mine. This, this place, it is his."

She didn't spit on the ground. But she looked like she might want to.

Then, Nir'wei spoke and they listened. They listened closely and attentively. He was looking for the office of Natural Affairs - a currently vacant seat. So, there was no one to disagree with him, no one to stand against him. So, all things being equal - there was probably an easier ride for him - and Tio (since the person holding the seat he wanted very much didn't want it).

And eventually- the votes were cast. Now, when they were, they were taken to Kura. The man who had overseen collecting them handed them to her, but she waived her right to announce and instead, he did.

"Both accepted."

It was as easy - or as complicated - as that.

4. If you wish to observe only, you are more than welcome to do so. This thread is open to anyone.
5. Remember - you can make up new Council Roles (like the Member for Ice Cream, for example) - if you do this you will need to justify why the role is needed - AND why you would be best for it.

NPC Lists

Albarech

Trainer

Age: Born 679
Title: Chief Ranger
Skills: Bow: 70, Sword: 55, Hunting: 50, Animal Husbandry: 50, Animal Training: 50, Fieldcraft: 50
Other Information: Elliot is a stern man who will not suffer fools at all. He is a hard working individual who has no family ties; there have been many women and men who have attempted to attract his attention but he appears to be completely married to his job. He is a man of few words and will act rather than debate. He will defend Darbyton and Scalvoris with fibre of his being and is as loyal a man as can be.

Egg

Image

A grin graced Tio's lips as the votes came in, falling in his favour. And just like that he held control over the religious scene of Scalvoris. He couldn't exactly go around demanding everyone start worshipping him, more's the pity, but he did now have full accessories to the shrines on the Immortals Tongue, and would be able to keep an eye on any Immortal related activity around the island. Reza's decision not to stand against him was surprising, but at least spared him the responsibility of having to keep the shrines safe and maintained. Oh he'd need to be careful not to step on her toes during his poking around, which would slow progress down significantly, but he'd still get what he wanted in the end. He was immortal after all, no need to rush.

He descended back down to the ground and walked over to the newly vacated Devout seat, shooting his fellow council members a pleasant smile and a nod. "Thank you all. I'll prove to you all that your faith in me is not misplaced." He announced suavely, crossing one leg over the other and folding his hands together in a comfortable pose. His smile only grew as Nir'wei too was granted a position. It would be good to have someone he was confident he could put his trust in on the council with him.

As attention started to turn back to the crowd and the other topics being brought up Tio's attention half focused out, turning his thoughts towards how else he could make the most out of this new position. He already knew that studying and interacting with curses could make him more powerful, and nobody would think it odd that the Devout should take an interest in gathering information on who possessed what curses on Scalvoris. He had an old network of criminal contacts around the island: combined with the religious figures now answering to him and the reports people filed to him on suspected Immortal activity, he could very easily build an intelligence web capable of tracking and studying all the curses available. Maybe even experiment on a few.

But all that would have to come later. For now he had a public image to get creating. Smiling like the sensible and put-together individual he definitely wasn't, Tio watched the rest of the council meeting proceed.

Re: Council Meeting: Rebirth 720

Well, not that he’d exactly sneaked in, but Kalortah had expected rather more attention to fall on his colorful self than had yet to. Red glorious wings folded behind his back, a mane of white with red feathers streaming through the white ruff, and then the witchmarks that had been left as scars, from when his Sparks had been ripped out of his soul in an explosion of abrogative force. He was wearing a fine, woolen Athartian naval jacket in white, with red linen shirt and white wool bottoms that matched the jacket. On either foot a pair of hose and white leather dancing shoes. On his hands, a pair of red gloves that matched the shirt beneath. Over it all he was decorated by various jewels and beads he’d gathered over the arcs.

He shook his head, flustered that nobody had recognized his glory. Well, there was the fact of his height, at an imposing 5’3” he didn’t exactly tower over the typical human until he was on the wing.

He’d noted the presence of the woman, the one he had suspected of harboring Avriel blood when they briefly met in that alleyway in Scalvoristown. The one where Navyri had taught him humility, and that his wings were very breakable. He tried to avoid her gaze, which was simple once he sank into the rest of the crowd gathered.

He listened to the first round of people to put forth for council positions, and furrowed his brow, wondering if he should put his name forth. It wasn’t a question of his worthiness, of course. He was more than qualified than all these typical and inglorious mud-walkers. No, Kalortah wondered what he had to gain from any of it. Becoming a council member would paint a target on his back, he wasn’t so naive not to realize that. Yet he’d been broken before, and risen again from that state. Twice before! Yes it was decided, perhaps this was worth his time.

Plus, he’d never tried being a part of a democracy. The idea of rule by a council majority was something that vaguely amused him. What would the Grand Aeolian think, to have one of her subjects as the councilor of such a body? Somehow Kalortah didn’t find himself bothered all that much at the prospect of disapproval.

He stepped forward, and made his case, pushing his way past all the too-tall humans. Once in the center of the room, he spread his wings, so that he would become more visible and also to clear his area of their noise and presence.

”Ahem, I am Kalortah Satravial, of Athart. I have flown from one corner of Idalos to the other. From Vorkund to Yaralon, from Scalvoris to Athart and back. From Ivorian to Desnind. I’ve seen many peoples and cultures, and can speak three languages with passing competence, and am learning more every season.”

Kalortah tried an assuring smile on, but it may have looked more like an intimidating sneer, ”I can be reasonable and accommodating when peace is in our interest. I can be hard and unyielding when war is knocking on our beachheads. In all things, I will put the interests of this island above all other loyalties.”

”I propose that you name me Foreign Affairs Councilor.”

Re: Council Meeting: Rebirth 720

Shortly after Kalortah had held his little speech, Devin raised his hand and stepped forward as well. He hadn’t planned on actually applying for a seat on the council until the other bard had spoken – while such a position promised fame and money and such, it seemed to be entirely too much work – but now he couldn’t not give it a try. He was just as good, if not better, than that feathered creature, and he would prove it. He would gain a seat on that stupid council!

And then he would go on to rule Scalvoris!

He strode past spectators, politicians and wannabe politicians at a swift pace, with his head held high and a confident smile on his face, as if he had absolutely no doubt that he would be the best candidate for – well, any position on the council.

He was an academic, a doctor, a specialist as far as criminal matters were concerned (he was a criminal himself, after all). He was a priest, he knew everything about magic (having been subjected to a fair amount of magic in the past).

His amazingly good looks alone would improve the council! From what he could see, none of the people in the room were particularly attractive …

“Good trial, ladies and gentlemen”, he spoke and bowed deeply, the way he usually bowed to his audience when he performed in one of the taverns on the island (on top of all those other things, he was quite the masterful lutist).

He let his gaze drift across the people in front of him, looking at a person here and there, as if he were talking to them and them alone. He wanted them to feel as if they mattered, as if he was addressing them personally (it was a trick that had served him well in his arcs as a musician).

Following that he paused. He didn’t pause because this was another semi-psychological trick, but because he hadn’t decided which position he should run for yet. Actually, he hadn’t given things any thought yet, apart from the fact that he wanted to be on the damn council!

“My name is Devin Thorn”, he introduced himself because saying his name seemed like a good idea, and it would also give him more time to decide which position he would run for. Of course, he didn’t let his insecurities show. He smiled confidently all the time.

“Some of you may know me as a doctor and priest, but I’m also quite an accomplished academic. Those of you that have gone to university, know that you usually start with a Letter. I never did my Letter – or my Certificate. I was allowed to start at the Diploma level to due my great skill. In addition to my own studies, I am currently teaching medicine students at the university here in Scalvoris”, he spoke, which was actually the truth, and nothing but the truth. He was doing all those things.

“I am young. I am still open to new ideas. I can still identify with those that this is ultimately all about - the students”, he said. He didn’t say so directly – doing such would likely do more harm than good - but it was a jab at a certain councilor. The man in question was nearing retirement age! Replacing him would be far more challenging than just making up a new position nevertheless though!

“I am familiar with all kinds of academic matters and politics, not only in regard to Scalvoris, but in regard to other countries as well”, he claimed. “I used to live in Rynmere and received part of my education there. I spent some time in the city of Viden and had the opportunity to familiarize myself with the Academy. Just last cycle, I went to Desnind in order to teach the Sev’ryn about Northern Medicine – that’s what they call normal medicine there. Furthermore, I have educated countless people in religious matters – and I tutored a young man that was considered to be a hopeless case. People thought he’d never amount to anything. Well, he’s going to university now and doing really well! I know how to make people enthusiastic about academia!” he informed them brightly. He had actually tutored someone. The young man wasn’t going to university now because Devin was such an exceptional teacher though, but because he had been told to cheat at exams – and that sleeping with a professor was a sure way to success.

“For all those reasons, I propose that you name me the new Academic Councilor! I promise that you won’t regret it!”

Mid-Bomb-Not-A-Mod-Bomb.....

She was sitting, quietly, and listening to what was going on. When it didn't directly involve her, or her people, she usually kept quiet. But in this instance, she knew it did and so, she raised her hand. The hall was quiet as she stood; dark hair and slightly grey skin, she was someone who was well known throughout Scalvoris.

Mostly, of course, she was known in the place she oversaw and yet, she decided that the first thing to do was to introduce herself. "I am Shania Calanorn," she said, softly. She spoke directly to Kura. "And I would say firstly, my congratulations to you and my thanks to your predecessor. He led us out of the darkness of the Pirate Lords when we had no idea what to do. I have no doubt that in the trials and seasons to come, there will be those who pick at his reputation like vultures on bones, but they will not be me." She inclined her head.

"However, I believe that there is a problem in Scalvoris, and I can no longer sit by and allow it to continue." She looked around and she said, quietly and calmly. "I would like to step forward for the position of Accountant." Her gaze met that of Sidhe'nn Fraear and, for those who might spot such things either sitting in the council chairs or a detection of over 60/250, his lip lifted in an almost-snarl to her. "Where I will serve the island as a whole, not myself and not the hidden powers who think that they can fill the vacuum where the Pirate Lords once stood." She looked at Kura and smiled, slightly.
