Vhalar 22, Arc 721
On the 22nd of Vhalar, Devin Thorn, medical genius in progress, High Priest of Delroth and unexpected Baron (He'd just wanted Alyssia to have the job, but Saoire had given him one third of it!) was standing in the entrance Hall of Smooglenuff Manor, wearing a fancy emerald green suit with a light green shirt underneath because green was in fashion that season and staring at a wall panel. He wasn't staring at the wall panel because he was suffering from a bout of social awkwardness, because he was bored or because he had a penchant for wall panels though.
No, he was reviewing the manor's interior decoration!
He wanted to have a big party later that cycle. He wanted to make sure that it would be the social event on Scalvoris this cycle and something that people would remember for arcs to come. In order to accomplish that, he didn’t only need to serve his guests the most amazing food ever, he also needed to make sure that the manor itself looked its absolute best – and that the decoration was on point. He wasn’t sure why you said “on point” when something was perfect, but anyway, that’s what he wanted the manor to be.
On point!
“This needs to be shinier”, he decided, removed a very lacy handkerchief form a pocket of his pants and started wiping away without further ado. A few moments later, he stopped again abruptly though as something had occurred to him. Shiny wall panels, shiny floors and shiny decorations alone were unlikely to impress his guests sufficiently, at least if they were the usual ones. He needed to give people something new to look at in order to impress them beyond measure!
He wanted to have his party in Zi’da. Zi’da had a lot to do with Ziell. Ziell was the Immortal of Winter, among other things. Maybe … maybe he’d just fill all of the rooms of the manor that his guests would see with a lot of snow, but snow that wasn’t cold and that didn’t melt. He didn’t know what he would use in order to create the illusion of snow yet, but he’d figure it out. And then there would be golden and green and red ornaments, like the ones Saoire had worn in her hair when that holiday event where he had been teleported away had taken place.
On top of that there would be a lot of lights in different colors. And maybe, he’d even install a slide somewhere, either on top of one of the staircases or outside – because he’d just remembered a dream he had once had where he had slid down a rainbow slide. Except that this slide would be a snow slide – because he didn’t want his guests to just stand there, hold a glass of alcohol make small talk and pretend that they were having fun. At least he didn’t think that such parties were a lot of fun. He wanted to have a really entertaining party!
And better wall panels.
He would, he decided as he cast another glance at the wall panel that he had been staring at before, ask his employees if they could put an extra layer of paint on it so that it would shimmer when the light touched it.
That would be great!
