Five-Tom Orchard
Hedged about by rows of currants, gooseberries, and hazelnuts stood an orchard of well-tended fruit and nut trees. Set up as a training farm for arboriculture, the Five-Tom Orchard was, in the appropriate seasons, vibrant with blooming trees, buzzing bees, and bustling students. Scattered about the orchard were stands of humming boxes that housed beehives for the other discipline in which the orchard’s operator, Sylvia Sapi, worked and taught: beekeeping.
