Darbyton is a well established little village, most of the inhabitants are quick to point out that they were the first proper settlement in Scalvoris history. Although primarily focused on logging, enough hunting and trapping goes on to largely fulfil their own food needs and almost every home regularly grows bean sprouts to help make sure nutritional needs are met. Between that and spruce tips and the like, very little is imported, which fits in with the nature of the people who live here.
The people of Darbyton are extremely self reliant and proud, and less likely to give in to vices than most of Scalvoris. Still, almost all of them have ties of one sort or another to the people of Almund, Harvardr and Egilrun. It's quite common for inhabitants of Darbyton to go work in Egilrun for a season or two to save nel, often to contribute to a dowry to bring someone in from Almund of Harvardr. This is mostly necessitated by the relatively small size and population. There is always at least one scholar who's main job is tracking bloodlines to ensure inbreeding does not occur. Luckily, given the fluid population of Almund, this is rarely a problem. However, this being said, Darbyton has a surprisingly diverse population compared to the rest of the island, and a high percentage of half-breeds.
Most of the wood they harvest is sent downriver to the coast where it is shipped via barge to Egilrun, though it makes it all over the island. The majority of the buildings in both Almund and Scalvoris are made of wood from this village. Those not of the village itself will be greeted, however, by the rangers who are responsible for it's security. Hunters, trappers and weapon-wielders, the rangers of Darbyton are known as people Not To Mess With.
