Second Round . - we've put in our second actions, where we are taking a more direct "do not mess with us" standpoint. Chest should be full now, but Winston's picking up stragglers and keeping people safe- Jasper is using the ring of protection and Kis is checking behind us etc. Vega remembers that she can control water - that helps. So she gets feisty with them there pirates! :D

Y'all are busy beavers.

Kisaik - The defense of Sweetstone is organized and ready for pirate themed trouble. Plus you got a civilian out of harms way.

Winston - Chest has a lot of civilians that are now very safe. So long as the neutrality is held, the pirates will ignore Chest. Beware of them maybe setting the area on fire, though.

Jasper - The pirates pretty quickly figure out that any flames they light are acting up and putting their ships at risk. They douse any fires, which slows down their recovery from Vega's cold, but keeps Jasper from playing with their flames.

Vega - Better communication and organization. The Unforgiven and The Hopeless Dirge are now up on water towers. The Gutripper is caught in the wall. Morale dropping was covered last modnote. The big hunk of metal was dropped on The Unforgiven. It doesn't appear to have gone all the way through, but there is a big hole on the upper deck. Jeff speaks to Sweetwine. The Induk is fine, but there's trouble at at least one of the other spots and Sweetwine is currently working on maintaining the balance. For the time being he can't help. Vega delivers her ultimatum.

The Response - Vega and Jasper, plus Kisaik if he flew up with them, can see The Butcher and the Slaver on the decks of their ships. Neither of them, strangely, appear affected by the cold. Both give their responses quickly. The Butcher is a long staff that he points at Vega, and Kisaik he's there, that begins pouring out a veritable storm of ice, clearly looking to freeze their dragonlings. The Slaver is holding what appears to be the handle of a whip that he lashes out at Jasper, which throws out a crackling tendril of lightning that's roughly a hundred feet long.

Meanwhile, there's a roar and a cracking sound. If anyone who's airborne looks, they'll see that the Gutripper has been surrounded by a giant aura of a boar and is driving forward. The cracking sound is the Gutripper being driven forcibly through Vega's wall.

Meanwhile, back in Sweetsong, Winston will be able to see people moving through the settlement carrying weapons. They look like some visitors the settlement had gotten recently, but that hadn't stayed long. It won't take him long to notice that none of them seem to be able to see Chest.

Vega's skin has a reflective metallic sheen with a red glow. Her eyes still swirl biqaj colours, but one colour is always bright red which glows like fire. She has a bright red glow in her chest, situated directly under the mark of a heart (Daia mark) in the middle of a glowing silver dragon on her chest (Xiur). She's unnaturally warm to the touch

Brief summary of what you did.

1. Greyhide, Cold and Vabina remain at the Faldrass volcano.

2. Castile and Arle, having determined that the guards in Haven have been alerted to the threat but have not taken action, disengage from the fight and move towards Saoire's Dream instead.

3. Following Nir'weis awakening of the Forest Orb, Nir'wei uses the birds that he has gathered to expand on the frenzy of animals spreading across Faldrass.

4. Nir'wei also specifically sends the birds to attack the two ships travelling south. They are to prioritise two things - attacking the sailors, and attacking the sails. He wants to slow down the ships and weaken the pirate morale.

5. Nir'wei then recalls Sovar, Myrth and Nox from Saoire's Dream. He also recalls Squeak, who was sent towards Saoire's Dream from the Faldrass Barony at the end of the last round. They all return via the School Gateway he's kept open, so that it happens instantaneously. After this, he closes the portal.

6. Nir'wei rides Traveller to the Faldrass Volcano to meet up with Greyhide, Cold and Vabina while bringing Sovar, Myrth and Nox.

The yellow mist is now spreading more quickly. It gains speed and spreads exponentially.
In the moment that Myrth is showing Nir the "dome" over Saoire's School, Gaddwin exclaims. "That's Faldrass. Faldrass is protecting the school. That's why the fire isn't harming anything!"
The birds go to attack the ships. Their attacks work - but there aren't enough of them currently to be more than an inconvenience.
As Nir observes, he sees that the reason the six ships split up is because another ship - or ships, in fact - are coming. Cutting through the water is another dark ship leading a small group of vessels. The flag they fly is a single red sword on a black background and they are moving fast.[mod]

Brief summary of what you did - This thread is mostly setup which ends with Balth's group broken into groups and going to do certain things. It is a little different than the proposed plan since they have a HQ now but relatively the same. Balthazar is now at the docks with Lyanna and Ellisa. Robin is on the way to the docks with Asher and Rodrick. Gellert, Abel, Griff, and Croft are on the way to report the ships to the Elements. All other Black Cats return to the HQ to look for messages (including checking echo scrolls in Balthazar's office.) The Black Cats do not go out onto the ships, they are just watching them and waiting for something to happen. It also establishes what Balthazar has with him during the night in terms of magic items.

Defiance: Skin always glows faintly and he is warm to the touch. His is also the center of a field of static electricity so people get shocked touching him on occasion.
Rupturing: Orange etheric cracks spider-web up his arms to his elbows. His eyes and the glowing cracks going down his cheeks glow dark blue.

  • Oops, Oops, Ouch: Balthazar Black has twenty scars across his back from a lashing as well as scars on his hands and arms from jagged rocks on Faldrass. There are two scars on the sides of his abdomen from being stabbed and a slash across his back which blends in with the whip scars.

Kura's getting the Elements moving, quietly in Almund so they can at least try to be in place before alerting the ships. She's sent word to the rest of the island, with specific goals of checking where the Black Ships hit during Dark Hearts and on the Induks. Balthazar is ready to pounce and Kura's hired him and his mercs.
What skills etc are relevant to your plans here? Kura's got Master Leadership and Tactics, Expert Logistics. Balthazar's got Master Stealth, Discipline, and Meditation, with Expert Logistics. Combat skills aren't in play yet.

Noted. Ok so -

You guys are in place, beautifully and fully prepared.

Balthazar's skills in Detection and Intelligence will make him realise something. This place where he is? There is nothing out of the ordinary to see here. Nothing. In fact, it's quite normal. Which, in itself, with black ships on the horizon, is odd. In fact, it borders on very odd.

The ships are all flying the same flag. A red candle with a black flame on a white field. This is the flag of the "Candlestick Maker" one of the more vicious pirate lords. Since you are not able to see much at this distance, you can't tell what they're doing, but they're preparing something, for sure. There are at least 20 small rowboats, a few longships.

Kura Letter 01 gets sent.

At the end of the next round (so at the end of your posts) there will be a sudden cry from someone. "Look! Fire!" and indeed - across Almund it seems, fires have been lit. But there must have been some tampering somewhere because they go from embers to infernos in moments. And then, there's the cry. "It's the hospital! The Order of the Adunih is aflame!!!"........

Brief summary of what you did. The actions are summed up in the last two rounds of the thread (the last two posts of each of us.) I'll repost them here for convenience, though.
Second Posts
1. Faith activates her necklace
When activated, this necklace freezes time for all except the wearer. Time is frozen for exactly one break when time resumes, everything must be in the exact same position they were in at the moment time froze. Should this not happen, the item is used but has no effect and the user will have no memory of what they saw / did during the break. If the wearer interferes with an object or person, they must return them to the state they were before in order for time to resume. This ability can be used twice in any given season.

2. Then, she uses her capstone, "Hunch" -
Any investigator develops an instinct but Faith has honed this to the point of super human. As in the All-Taverns Tournament, Faith is able to spot when something is not right no matter how busy or crowded the place may be. Where there is a plot to be investigated, or a crime to be solved, where there is a dodgy person or an unusual thing - Faith will have a hunch and go to it. This is not a passive ability, but it is one where she has to look around / investigate / consider and then, to her, her hunch kicks in. When looking at a crowd of 200 people, considering the city of Rharne or wondering about the whole of Idalos, Faith just knows where to start, and who (in priority order) she needs to speak to first.

3. She puts on her crown (from Ruin's Dawn) and gets on her stone horse and goes in the direction that her instinct takes her in order to gather as much information about these attacks as she can.
I've put in lots of conditionals, and leave that information to you!
Crown:
Queen's Crown - A silver circlet belonging to the late Queen, on loan until the Princess, named Hope Arkenstone, comes of age in 739th arc. It grants an ability to sense mages on sight. She will know what domain they practice, but not the level of the mage in question.

4. When she gets back, she first heads to the Order of the Adunih (once time has restarted) and dedicates it as a "Safe Hearth"
This is a simple gold ring which fits around and matches her wedding ring. Faith may designate up to three areas as "Safe Hearths". The area is roughly the size of a large estate (eg: it would cover her home, which is set in 5 acres) and it has two properties. First, if anyone enters that area with violent intention / intention to harm then Faith will know about this - and will have an idea of how many people and in which general direction. The main power, however, is that anyone who actively seeks to enact violence, be it against Faith or anyone else, will become the centre of a dreadful storm, with ice shards and violent winds buffering them. The temperature around them drops to way below zero, freezing them in their tracks and encasing them. This is targeted at those who are attempting to act violently - including using damaging or controlling marks or magics. It is enough that, should the person be unprepared and they continue to fight, it would kill within a few moments. If the Storm power is "tripped" then it needs to be re-activated. Only three areas may be active at any time.

5. She grabs supplies
Logistics Tier 2:
Faith has developed her skill to the point where she can plan for the worst-case-scenario in the most efficient way possible and make logistical decisions which may seem to be unusual or extreme but which are, in fact, exactly what's needed. This leads to her having something on hand which could help against even the most obscure and difficult turn of events. So, to give an example, the gut instinct to bring a beautiful bird along for company on the voyage is directly helpful when a priest of Delroth seeks to impede their progress.

Woe:

1. Woe solidifies his shadowy wings, which give him ability to fly and glide at novice skill level.
2. Woe invokes shadow cloak, which works as described in the spoiler text, basically makes him less noticeable or stick out less.
3. Woe sends Sod off to warn Scaltoth about the pirate attack.
4. Rubs soot on his face to appear as a dirty pirate.
Third Posts

Faith:
1. Woe goes. Faith sends PB to watch the people observing the Elements / Rangers. His orders to find out if they're signalling back to the ships, or what.

2. Faith reads the Echo Scrolls- replied to the Joy-Scroll.

3. Faith then uses her Warden of Lovalus ability to control the water. She's got a high Science skill, so she drops the ships onto the ocean floor by the expedient of parting the water and then holding it above them.

4a. If that works, she'll judge what to do next depending on how well it works / the outcome.

4b. If that doesn't work - if they are like magic floating ships or in some other way uber prepared, then Faith will freeze the water above them and then let it go and let all the water in that she's been holding back. .

Woe:
Gloom is heading to the Ranger Station under stealth. He's master at stealth.

Sage is heading for the Element Outpost on the wings of her Sigh. She should be quite stealthy with high mount skills.

Radburn is staying near Faith to relay all the thoughts and communique that Woe has to relay from the Wicked Reaver.

Woe has shadow cloak active while on the ship.

Woe used his Shadow Wings and Solidified shadows to manifest those wings with which he's flying. He rides Soz toward the ship and then glides down onto its deck.

He uses several capstones to pretend he belongs there, and to defray any suspicion at his presence. He uses Voices Carry capstone to isolate any sounds coming from the man in charge's position, whoever that appears to be. Woe should be good at picking out where commands are coming from.

That's a lot of stuff.

Everything in round 2 basically happens as intented. Faith doesn't really come across any mages in the watch groups, but Hunch does indicate that there's a focus on Slags Deep and this is probably connected to The Wicked Reaver, though this isn't a great leap.

As to round 3:

PB watches the groups, but they aren't signaling the ships. For now, they seem to be waiting.

The water removal works, but only one of the ships actually drops to the ground. It doesn't tilt when it hits the bottom though, and anyone who looks will see that the dropped ship, The Slit Throat, has wheels on the bottom, as well as a reinforced hull that prevents it from breaking from the impact. The Falcon drops a few inches, then starts flying. Faith or Woe would identify magic as the source, but there don't seem to be any mages on board either ship. The Wicked Reaver also drops a few inches before a localized bank of water appears under it, keeping it afloat. If Faith tries to control this water, she'll find that it's not really water, but rather an artificial facsimile of water.

Faith will, however, be able to tell that this was less of a case of the three ships being fully prepared for this and more a case of them just having either modified their ships earlier in their careers or having a few helpful magical artifacts. All three ships are clearly hesitating at this point.

Gloom and Sage are undetected and will find that both outposts are starting to mobilize, and they take the reports from both and start mobilizing faster. Woe lands on The Wicked Reaver and hears panicked orders when the water drops to activate something called the Sea's Memory. Once that's done, he hears a discussion about what to do. There doesn't seem to be a singular leader, but he is able to pick out an overall goal. They want to get to Slags Deep to find Ageless, who they believe the Scalvoris government has locked up there.

For the time being, none of the ships appear to be inclined to be more aggressive, but they aren't backing off either. There's a sense of readiness from them and Woe can hear the leaders of The Wicked Reaver talking debating what to do about Faith's ice. There's no visible movement from The Swift and the Falcon yet.

Okie dokie, diddly smokie!

Things are happening in lots of places! I think maybe we could do with an "overview" post here. I'm going to set this up and then, implement the following.

1. Whenever you post in this tracker we will modnote and / or review.
2. We will repost this and update it.
3. We will go back and put the last one of these in spoilers - so you know that the one in spoilers is not the most up to date!

Each place is listed below. Rounds are numbered. Round 0 is "before midnight" for those that get notice. Locations are listed in the order their first posts appear in the tracker. Please note that I am aware that sometimes things may appear in the same post but be listed here are "round 0" or "round 1" = that's just to give you an idea of roughly what time things happened! Don't worry, this is just rough and meant to be helpful :D

Also - I'm not going to ask Basilisk to update this unless he really wants to. This means that I will be writing about what happened to and with my pcs. We're all grown ups, I'm not deciding it, just transcribing it :)

Sweetsong Thread 1

Kisaik and Winston arrive at a very fortuitous moment!

Vega writes Letter 1, bosses people about quite a lot, tries to make the pirates feel hopeless and cold.
Jasper works on defending Sweetsong, getting people to safety too.
Kisaik flies towards the pirates, then decides to come back, protects the Sweetstone tree and gets his tribe involved.
Winston gets people into Chest.
Round 1
Vega reads Nir Letter 01. Realises that letter reading and writing will get out of hand quickly.

Woe boards the ship with the hope of observing, gathering information and possibly (future-Woe) grabbing an important person, or two. He leaves a diri with Faith, she communicates to said Diri constantly.
Faith reads Vega Letter 1 and Elisabeth Letter 1. She quickly writes Faith Letter 1 .
Faith parts the waves beneath the ships and puts a ceiling of water above them.

Hi,

There are three big black ships what are travellin in the cover of darkness towards us. They are large, they look wrong. I don't know wat they are, I don't know if it's bad but it looks bad. Check the shore lines, make sure that yore people are safe. Contact me if you need help.

Nir'wei and Darius have reported in.

Nir'wei says
- six ships off the coast of Faldrass.
- they are setting fires too.
- Faldrass is cold.

Darius says
- Pirates sighted off the coast of Hopetoun
- Suggestion that they are in other places too.

No one else has checked in yet. We need confirmation that the Elements have been informed and to know what is happenin' there. More details from Faldrass would be good too. Are the six ships part of the HOpetoun sightin' or are there more? What's on fire? Keep information comin', where you can.

The ships attackin' us belong to Pirate Lords, apparently. They are:

The Unforgiven, captained by The Butcher.

The Gutripper, captained by The Boar

The Hopeless Dirge, captained by The Slaver.

We've damaged them, but they've got ranged canons and stuff and I'm going to kill them all. No, you don't need to write that you plonker. Oh, jus' send it!

I've held off the ships for now. But problem.

Everything on Faldrass is going to get hungry. It's going to spread to all Scalvoris. You'll hear them. They'll attack anything. Make sure to put the pirates in front of them.

Get everyone indoors quick. Do not send Air Elements. Don't get in water.

We've got like 2 breaks. Tell everyone.

Her notary cleared his throat and asked if she wanted to send a response to Sweetsong. Kura huffed at herself for having forgotten, then nodded. "Yeah, tell them there's attacks all over the island, but that I've ordered the Elements and the Rangers to move out to defend the island."

He's using his mortalborn ability to call the woodland creatures to the aid of Sweetsong. Making a perimeter if possible around the interlopers moving through Sweetsong, to prevent their further passage.

He's using Serpent's Hood ability from Taithir, to make himself as threatening as possible.

He's using his Verdant Protection, so that the forest itself awakes to defend him. This could be vines tripping up attackers, branches moving to smack them about the head, etc.

He's summoned his Ephemeral Blade, to defend himself against the interlopers.
Winston kicked ass!
In more detail
Moving Chest out of the center of the settlement in case of getting caught by collateral damage.

Boosted Discipline to Expert with Vega's Flag to keep his head and be able to make good choices.

Boosted Leadership to Competent with Vega's performance to allow him to steer some basic order inside chest.

Used everyone ELSE's specialities to try and succeed in the above.

Summoned Kelpie to ensure she and so the Fairies of Sweetwine were aware of the need to seek shelter.

Created a space to take on the injured (though lacks medicine to actually treat them).

Jasper kicked ass.

3. She starts smashing ships together with as much force as she can muster. She is aiming to utterly destroy them.

Y'all busy.

Kisaik: Soon as Kisaik reveals himself, the people creeping through Sweetsong turn to him and start to attack. You've now prevented a rear ambush, congratulations. You're also under attack, though, so there's that. The forest will fight alongside you, though, and these pirates were not prepared for that.

Winston: Chest is much more organized now, and much safer from collateral. Winston will have people with medical training expressing concern about the lack of medical supplies. They basically can't do more than the most basic first aid. There are medical supplies back in Sweetsong, though. as the fairies, most of them take the warning and go into hiding. Not all, however. Sweetwine is their home, and some of them are inclined to help defend it. Since Winston alerted them, they come looking for him for instructions. Since they aren't neutral, though, they can't find Chest.

Jasper: Turns out that there isn't a limit on how often Slaver can use that lightning bolt whip thing, but it's so long that it's fairly slow for a whip. The crows nest is largely undefended, beyond the whip, but it doesn't take long for the crew of The Hopeless Dirge to start loading...catapults? Yeah, those are definitely catapults they're loading, albeit small ones.

Vega: Vega dodged the ice.

The pirates: The Gutripper, you notice, is slowly starting to turn as it realizes that it ain't getting through that wall any time soon. It is still moving forward under it's own power, though. The Hopeless Dirge, meanwhile, has seen opportunity in the wall and is angling those catapults its got towards it. In the meantime, Vega started moving the water pillars and it turns out The Butcher did not agree with that plan. Vega and Jasper are able to see the Pirate Lord grab a rope and swing off the side of The Unforgiven down below his own ship, where he's able to use his ice staff to freeze the water pillars. How quickly do they freeze, you might ask? Instantaneously, and Lovalus can't move ice. The Butcher's swing, and he's moving fast and on a long rope, does carry him around The Unforgiven where he's in range of the water pillar holding up The Hopeless Dirge, which was closer thanks to Vega moving them, and he freezes that one too before the swing of his rope carries him back up to the deck of his own ship. The Unforgiven fires ballista bolts at Vega during this to try and cover The Butcher during his swing.

While this is happening, The Hopeless Dirge fires its catapults at Vega's wall. They fire what appear to be packed orb that shatter when they hit Vega's indestructible wall, letting out a dark purple mist that starts spreading fast and is hard to see in the dark. Jasper can see them reloading the catapults while The Slaver keeps trying to zap him out of the air. The Butcher meanwhile, had decided that taunting Vega would be a good idea right now, and was clearly making mocking gestures as the redhead.

Vega's skin has a reflective metallic sheen with a red glow. Her eyes still swirl biqaj colours, but one colour is always bright red which glows like fire. She has a bright red glow in her chest, situated directly under the mark of a heart (Daia mark) in the middle of a glowing silver dragon on her chest (Xiur). She's unnaturally warm to the touch
