After Heartless.
Vhalar 5, Arc 720
On the 5th of Vhalar, Devin Thorn, thief, conman extraordinaire and not entirely clueless incredibly skilled, experienced and all-around awesome Becomer walked into the lecture hall and sat down on an empty chair in the second row next to three young women that looked …
He blinked a couple of times in confusion and proceeded to rub his eyes before he came to the conclusion that he was definitely not hallucinating, and that he was not high either (he had not drunk anything or taken drugs in a while). He was indeed seeing triple.
The three young women with shoulder-length, straight blonde hair, brown eyes and pointed ears that sat on adjacent chairs looked completely alike - because they were triplets. He had heard that multiple births were common among Biqaj, but he had never actually seen it before.
The triplets noticed that Devin who was quite an interesting sight himself (he had violet eyes, sharp black nails and wore an exceedingly fashionable outfit in black with hints of purple) was staring at them, and giggled before they proceeded to introduce themselves.
“I’m Cassandra”, the first triplet said.
"I’m Caterina”, the second triplet told Devin.
“And I’m Carolina”, the third triplet introduced herself.
“Together we are the Qe’Akor triplets”, the three girls said at the same time.
Devin blinked again. A moment later, he smiled all over his face though, stood, bowed in a somewhat dramatic fashion and sat down again before he proclaimed, “And I’m Devin Thorn.”
“Doctor Devin Thorn”, he added.
The triplets stared at him, but Devin had already noticed something else, something that was not as weird as three people looking completely alike without Becoming, but still pretty interesting.
Heartless Hadrian (who actually had a heart, it was just on the wrong side of his chest) had just walked in and sat down in the first row which made Devin abruptly think about something else that he had discovered the trial that he had discovered that the Eidisi actually had a situs inversus.
He opened his pencil case that was made of very fine black leather and removed the handful of folded notes from it. Twice per seven-trial, every time he had been in Professor Hamilton-Smith’s class, he had found a new note in his pack when he had left. Once, there had also been a note in the pocket of his jacket, and he had not noticed anything!
Each of the notes had a heart on it, most of them drawn with black ink. One heart had also been red though. There had never been more than those notes though. There had not been any messages to go with them, and the mysterious person who had slipped them into his pack had never revealed themselves.
That just made him more curious though. He wanted to know who his secret admirer was and why they didn’t just talk to him (it could only be a secret admirer; he refused to consider any other possibility), and to-trial would finally be the trial that he would find out!
He looked around the classroom, looked at Heartless Hadrian and the Biqaj triplets that giggled again – and packed his things in order to move to a seat in the very last row. Each row of seats was raised a little higher than the one before it which meant that he would have an excellent view from there.
To-trial, he would keep an eye on his classmates rather than on Professor Hamilton-Smith, he decided.
He didn’t like Professor Hamilton-Smith anyway. Once upon a time, he had had a huge crush on him, but then he had forced him to grade the essays of his Letter students for supposedly misbehaving in class.
Since then, he hated him!
