Witchwood Graveyard
Witchwood Graveyard lies just a short walk away from the edge of Almund, and is the biggest cemetery on Scalvoris. In accordance with the island's funeral traditions each headstone is not marked with the name of the person who lies below it, nor any other details to identify them, but instead with a single symbol that had some significance to the departed in life. Because of this gravestones are not arranged in any set order but instead are grouped together in clumps, as family members tend to reserve spaces for themselves next to the graves of their loved ones. It is not customary for large groups to visit the graveyard together, and so Witchwood is usually very quiet during the day and normally appears to be deserted, enhancing the naturally sombre feel of the place.
There are no official rules governing Witchwood besides the laws of the island in general, although visitors are always warned by the locals not to visit at night. When it grows dark the graveyard takes on a haunting chill even on the hottest nights, and because of the grave-robbers, necromancers, and pacters that are attracted to the place it can often be very dangerous. However even the most despicable of mortals tend to stay clear of Witchwood graveyard during Vhalar, for it is during the nights of this season that strange and terrifying creature seem inexplicably drawn to the place, and those that tread in their territory often do not see the sunrise ever again.
