Cylus 29, Arc 721
The three Cadouri that were waiting outside the door, dressed in very fine clothes, wearing scarves and holding little lanterns because it was dark and unpleasant and cold in Cylus were indeed cute and fluffy. They were in fact so cute and fluffy that Devin had to resist the urge …
… no, he definitely did not have to resist the urge to stroke them, admire them and coo at them, like he sometimes cooed at his goat Heidi. He was a vain and greedy and arrogant priest of Delroth. A priest of Delroth didn’t coo at a group of Cadouri, unless they had wings.
He just …
… smiled.
Devin smiled all over his face because they were just so cute and fluffy before he grinned somewhat mischievously, bowed deeply and gestured for them to enter the house.
“Mister Herman McGerman, I presume?” he asked the Cadouri that looked the most like a hamster rather than a mouse or some other sort of rodent, secretly admiring the little bow on his shirt and his top hat. He kind of wished that he had such a hat. He really liked hats!
“Yes, Baron Smooglenuff!” Herman McGerman that was indeed a hamster said in a happy and cheerful tone of voice and stepped across the threshold and into Devin’s exceedingly colourful house, followed by his two mouse companions, only to abruptly make a small jump.
When Devin turned his head in order to find out what had startled the builder, his eyes widened. It was none other than Heidi herself who had followed him into the hallway in order to see what was going on. The little black and white goat who wore a pretty pink bow looked at the three Cadouri for a moment before she bleated loudly and insistently.
“That’s Heidi, my pet”, he told the somewhat skittish hamster. “She’s harmless. She just wanted to say hello. See?” he said and walked over to Heidi in order to scratch her head before he gestured for the three Cadouri who eyed the goat with a mixture of curiosity and wariness into the living room that was just as colourful as the rest of the house.
Fortunately, Herman McGerman recovered from his mild shock quickly enough and proceeded to eye his new surroundings with obvious interest. “What a thing of beauty!” he abruptly exclaimed as he looked at the walls that were all a different color and at the polished floors.
A moment later, they finally entered the living room where Devin’s lunch was already waiting (his roommates had retreated into their rooms upstairs rather than listening to all the barony stuff). Herman’s companions who were a male and female mouse and both dressed in very elegant bright blue clothes stared and oohed and aahed at the plate full of glowing breaded chicken pieces.
“I made these myself!” he told them. “I’m still trying to figure out a way to make them glow more so that they can double as lamps. A lunch in the dark - a lunch that you can actually see - would be fun, don’t you think?” he told them quite excitedly before he sat down at the head of the table.
It was just than that something occurred to him.
“Wait! You actually like meat?” he asked.
