Syroa's Shrine
The Devil's Pasquinade
The Devil's Pasquinade
The stage itself is a raised platform, beneath which sits a moderately sized complex where the players and priests are housed, and generally do prep work for the occasional performances, ceremonies, and other Syroan functions that are entirely necessary to placate the Goddess of Fury.
At the top of this complex, high above it is a stone arch, from which hangs a grand curtain. On either side of the curtain, the horizon is visible. Some of the priests make up fanciful explanations for this design choice, saying that the divide between the curtain and the audience is the same as that between the inner and outer world of a person's soul, of the false world and the ordinary world. Of dreams and wakefulness. Much of it is probably a smoke screen to dazzle the ignorant, while hinting at a deeper meaning for those philosophically inclined.
It is said that some of the best, and worst productions in the history of the theatre have been stage at The Devil's Pasquinade. And Syroa delights in all of them, the silly flops as well as the sublime works of art. To her, it is all a process of transition, from one thing to another. To Syroa's faithful, this is the point in the world where all changes in the world begin and end.
The stage is open to all, and generally welcomes those who wish to ply the mummer's art, whether putting on a silly puppet show, a stage theater troupe, or a magic show. All are welcome so long as they wish to placate and glorify the Mistress of Masks.
