Re: Forged in Fire: Fighting

120 Ashan 720

And so it seemed, Yeva of Rharne had survived.

Pushing through the barrier, remnants of magic clung to the coils of her wild hair, sweat and dust and dried blood painting her clothes and skin, but she had survived. Against odds and circumstance, she now faced Faldrass with breathless accomplishment as lightening crackled between the stones they all so desperately fought for and -

She honed in on the man she was still bound to and she stepped forward, slowly. She could still feel the pain, the soft ache on the edge of her consciousness, the fogginess. And she knew - This was Nir'wei. Him. And as Faldrass required water, her tether closed his eyes to concentrate. And Yeva closed her eyes as well, clearing her mind as best she could to allow him to focus without her own distraction.. It was difficult - she could feel the burning he felt, and knew not what he did. It was hard not to ask questions in her own mind, to keep her feet and hands in place instead of reach out and wish to mend the many broken.

"NOW!"

Brown eyes snapped opened to see the glorious Oasis Nir'wei had summoned and the arrow that exploded the world around them. A brightness flashed and she turned her head, raising a hand to block the explosion of light and wind, dust kicking up once more.

"It is over. You freed me. I am... I am free. Thank you."

Faldrass was now in the shape of a humanoid figure, searching each of them with a question that shocked her.

"This is the Heart of Scalvoris. We will rebuild here. Will you join us?"

Some of them agreed quickly, while others, like herself seemed to weigh the question. What were they rebuilding? "I..." she seemed to notice Balthazar, who looked a mess and needed her help just as much as Nir'wei, it seemed, agree. His white hair was dirty and he clutched his head pitifully, making her wince at the sight. How different he was compared to their other excursions, "I vowed to help Faldrass and my friends," Yeva looked at her team, her acquaintances, and then the other who she did not know personally. Many had not made it to the cavern. No Ari'sora, no Wald, no ChiChi. No Tio Silver. Yeva searched the cavern for little godling, wondering if Cassion had thrown him into a pit or if he had simply abandoned them as he had on the mountain. A flash of conflicted emotion caused her to frown and she crossed her arms. After a moment of silent resolution, Yeva bowed her head, "I will not go back on my word... I've made it this far."

What would her parents think, should they find out how she went through a cave, was nearly crushed and killed, crossed plains of lava on nothing but a thin ledge and now stood before a multitude of great beings? How different this was to the orchards and taverns of Rharne! Yeva lowered herself humbly, "I would be honored to join you... To help you rebuild."

And the wounded, they needed her. With so much lost, it was easy to forget what might be gained.

Re: Forged in Fire: Fighting

Image

The static energy that crackled in the air straightened the follicles of Darius' beard, making them stand on end. The rocks, as they were gathered, appeared to be channelling energy from one another, and the power they seemed to contain was enough to make him feel vulnerable and exposed.

As such, the opportunity to retreat was gladly seized, especially when Kura drew her bow and warned of the danger that might follow. The seafarer did not know what to expect, but if the woman was warning others to stand back, he wasn't about to argue. He moved as quickly as he could, and it was only the weight of Balthazar's prone body that slowed him down as he helped Oram drag the bloodied mage to safety.

When the pair stopped, letting Balthazar rest, Darius fell to one knee. It felt as though it was his first chance to rest, and though his mind urged him to move, his body was in no mood to comply.

That all changed when Kura let her bowstring loose, and the explosion that followed sent him sprawling onto his backside, and it was only when the shaking stopped that he regained his composure. Dark grey eyes scanned the area, and the state of chaos that had befallen them. He was grateful to see that Oram and Yeva appeared to be unharmed for the most part, and he attempted to impress thoughts to that effect in the hunter's direction, but their unusual telepathic bond appeared to have been severed.

The dust was only just beginning to literally settle when Faldrass spoke. The words seemed to go through Darius, if that was somehow possible, such was their weight.

Was it truly over? Was such a thing possible?

Such thoughts would have to wait, for Faldrass was asking a question of his own, and he wanted an answer. Darius opened his mouth to speak, but his throat was dry, and no words came out. He tried again, closing his eyes briefly to catch his breath. Then he forced himself to move, sitting up and then planting one hand on his knee to push himself up into a standing position. It seemed that such an important decision shouldn't be made sitting down.

Darius opened his mouth once more, and this time he found his voice: "Aye."

It was simple and to the point, but it was impassioned all the same. He was a Scalvorian through and through. He had come to help, and he wasn't about to refuse to play his part now that it was actually seeking aid.

Re: Forged in Fire: Fighting

Kura held her aim on the stones as everyone moved around her, and at Faldrass's signal she loosed the arrow, watching as it split into ten more arrows before impacting with the stones. Then there was one more, hopefully final explosion, and Kura was knocked to the ground, letting out a grown as her injuries protested her rough handling of her own body. However, after that, it appeared to be done. Faldrass was much closer to human sized now, and the Albarech of Scalvoris stood to greet the Induk of the Faldrass Volcano. As she stood, she took off her helmet, then nodded her head to Faldrass.

"I'm glad you are free, and I apologize for my undue caution in doin' so." she said, her tone calmer now, before she fell silent as Faldrass spoke of rebuilding his Wardens. When he asked if any of them would join him, Kura nodded. "I'm in. Until they no longer need me, my task is the protection of Scalvoris and it's people. I will take any help I can, and offer any I can to those that share that goal." she said, her tone more formal than before. While Kura meant her acceptance, she was also now speaking as the leader of Scalvoris, and that required some formality.

When Sovar showed up, however, Kura just blinked in surprise at the wolf, then gave a soft laugh and a wry smile. "I don't need you to babysit me anymore, you know. But you're not as late as you think, we've got some injured that could use your help getting out of here. Phelan's fairly uninjured as well, so he'll help you out with them." she said as the big black wolf walked over and nuzzled against the other wolf. Phelan and Sovar had both been in Karem's service long before Kura, after all, they knew each other. Sighing, Kura shook her head. "Hopefully, someone from the mainland has sent us some bloody doctors." she muttered under her breath.

Forged in Fire: Fighting........
Kura, Ela, Balthazar, Nir'wei, Yeva, Tio, Darius, Oram....

And so, it seemed, they had survived.

They had - of course - done so much more. They had saved the island - possibly even all of Scalvoris. They had freed the first Induk of Scalvoris, too. But there were other consequences to their actions which might just be even more long-reaching. Faldrass nodded it's head and, each one of them who had said yes to its offer felt a strange sort of warm glow in their chest.
"This is the Heart of Scalvoris,"
it said.
"And you have been forged in its fire...."

And with that, it was gone.

As Fire Forged, they would be able to find their way here, always - from anywhere in Scalvoris they, and only they, had access to the Heart. For those who had set Faldrass free, the doors were always open, so to speak. And alongside that, they were now able to find their way out. Somehow, it became one exit, a short walk. The exit itself was an archway, except where there would be stone, there was solid lava. It was impossible, but it was what there. Each of them who had said yes also had their Diri to meet.

As Cassion turned to Tio and shook his head. "No. I was never mortal. We were created to embody our Domains. Far less .... " he looked at Tio and, for just a moment, there was a flash of emotion in his deep eyes. Was it sadness, or envy? It was hard to tell. "Far less free."

Faldrass was gone and then, the two Immortals watched as the mortals left. Sovar helped any and every way he could, nudging Balthazar towards the exit. When they had a moment, the wolf approached Nir'wei. "Heya," he said, softly. "I can help." A cold nose pressed into Nir'wei's hand and then came the voice - the spoken voice, not in his head. "I'm Sovar. I'm a belly rub addict, and I can make this easier for you." He was delighted to see Phelan, and Kura too (but it was definitely in that order) - and then, they were able to leave.

And already, they knew. They could all come back. Any time they wanted to, from anywhere on Scalvoris. Their diri would teach them in the days to come.

But right now, there was a lot still to be done. As they stepped out into what should be the sunlight, they saw the damage already done.

In many ways, for each of them - it was a beginning.

The Consequences for Scalvoris.....

Image
Aftermath.......
Faldrass

As they stepped out into the fresh air, they saw what those not underground had seen.

There was dust, everywhere. The volcano had erupted and there had been significant damage. Namely.
Map
Image
-- The island of Faldrass is covered in dust and ash.
-- Large parts of the island have rivers of lava.
-- The Faldrass resort has been badly damaged - ash and so on has meant that it was heavily damaged
-- The Faldrass Marketplace has been mostly destroyed - this is a combination of the volcano, the earthquake and the landslide
-- Lives lost: roughly 800 people. All residents of Faldrass are now homeless.

Smooglenuff et al

-- The Smooglenuff Manor is completely destroyed.
-- The Baron, and all staff (except the guides), are dead.
-- Where the Manor stood, there is now a mass of land, the landslide has completely consumed the house.
Scalvoris

-- Almund, Harvrdr, Immortals Tongue and Ishallr all experienced tsunamis, as a consequence of the seismic activity.
-- These led to another 200 (roughly) deaths.

Forged in Fire: Fighting........
There are no words which do justice to how much I appreciate you all who took part in this event. There have been so many moments - and so many curve balls thrown. You all (all players, whether you're in this review or not) have done some truly remarkable stuff. Thank you.
Everyone in this thread.

Everyone who took part in this thread gets the following:

XP: 15 (please see your individual review below for clarity on whether this is magic XP or not - the XP you get individually is AS WELL AS this.)
Renown: 10 (this is also as well as your individual award).

Non-Skill Knowledges:
You may have non-skill knowledge of the following:
Faldrass: the place (up to 3 non-skill knowledges)
Faldrass: the Induk (up to 5 non-skill knowledges)
Each (N)PC you met / interacted with in this thread: Up to five non-skill knowledges formed from your opinion of this (n)pc.
Fire-Forged: up to five non-skill knowledges on the faction.

These need to make sense for this thread. If you've got any doubts / concerns - I'm happy to look over them. Thanks!

Individual reviews below - please do drop me a PM if I left anything out!

Nir'wei

Overview

I have no idea how you, the player, keep track of all those animals - poor Nir'wei for having to do that!! You played this really well, and I loved Nir'wei's interactions here.

Points

XP: 15 (not for magic)
Renown: 15

Loot

Velduris
1. Nir'wei gains the next two abilities in his Velduris mark:
Tracking Shot
The bearer can infuse their will, at a cost to their energy into their ranged weapon, whether it be an arrow or crossbow bolt, or thrown weapon, allowing it to track the target they fire at, even around corners and other obstacles.
Pack Mirage
At a drain to wolf familiar, it can create a mirage of an entire wolf pack. The illusions aren't real, but the familiar can trade places with the illusions to lend an air of unpredictability to its attacks and making it even harder to deal with.

2. Sovar will join with Nir'wei as a Velduris familiar. He is able to act as a "conduit" in times where Nir'wei is so very stretched as he was here. This means, however, that the two will bond incredibly tightly and, therefore, it's much harder to "zone out" the new addition to Nir'wei's pack. Sovar has a close relationship with Karem, as one of the older residents of the Spectral Forest. He informs Nir'wei that there are others waiting to be found, there, and that Karem would like him to hurry up and get on that.

Karem's Thanks: Karem is pleased with Nir'wei and how he performed here. She understands that he acted, throughout, to protect his pack. He is able to call on her, once, and she will hear his call. What she does, of course, is up to her.

1 x chainstone: This stone was used to trap Faldrass. You might be able to find out things from it. It is constantly cold.

Objectives Met:
- Heart of the Matter - You travelled into the Heart of Scalvoris. This experience stays with you. Your PC will be recognised by Induks as touched by one of their own. For Nir'wei, that is doubly the case as he is both a Warden and a Fire Forged. This can be explored via meditation and reflection, possibly opening up custom abilities for him which combine the two. This must be explored IC, and will require an extensive plot.

-Fire Forged- As one of Faldrass' Fire-Forged, you have the ability to recognise all other Fire Forged.

-Faldrass' First- As one of the first Fire-Forged you have the chance to develop your relationship with Faldrass. This must be done IC, and will come only through your actions - and your interactions with the Induk. Only one of you can unlock the currently locked abilities. Will it be you?

Balthazar

Overview

Oh my! Balth was so well played in this thread - he really does insist on pushing it, doesn't he? I really enjoyed his response here and I particularly found the way you played his magic-use really good.

Overstepping Mutation: You have heavily overstepped and, as such, you have picked up a new mutation. Please submit it via the PSF

Objectives Met:
- Heart of the Matter - You travelled into the Heart of Scalvoris. This experience stays with you. Your PC will be recognised by Induks as touched by one of their own.

-Fire Forged- As one of Faldrass' Fire-Forged, you have the ability to recognise all other Fire Forged.

Fire-Kin - As a Defier and a Fire-Forged, you enjoy a special relationship with the Heart of Scalvoris. If you explore this place, you will be able to unlock secrets which a non-Defier might not.

Kura

Overview

Well, it's not often that I get to have someone shout at Kura! I really enjoyed this thread and, as always, you played Kura exactly as she is. Your writing is wonderfully consistent and Kura's attitude to life is great.

Points

XP: 15 (not for magic)
Renown: 15

Loot

You get the next three abilities in your Velduris mark:
Predatorial Instincts
A skill that grants the favored the patience and calm needed to effectively hunt, as well as allowing one to tell when their prey, whether animal or human, has taken notice that they are being hunted.

Taste of Prey
When the marked has tasted blood or flesh of their intended target, this forms an immediate and lasting bond. While only one 'prey' can be designated at basic marked, each level thereafter increases the amount of prey a marked can have. Once a prey has been chosen, the marked will always be able to find them. Over sea, desert, forest, or even through the air the marked can track down their prey to any corner of Idalos. This manifests as a smell or taste on the air that inevitably leads the marked in the direction of their chosen prey. In return this ability can be shared with the wolves in ones pack.

Sense of Survival
The favored is able to tell what will help them survive in the wild, from what trees are safe to burn and what food is safe to eat and more. However, this effect does not work in more civilized land and it still falls upon the favored to be able to use what they find.

Objectives Met:

For Nir'wei, that is doubly the case as he is both a Warden and a Fire Forged. This can be explored via meditation and reflection, possibly opening up custom abilities for him which combine the two. Ela

Overview

Ela didn't do what Kura told her! Little Pup is getting teeth- it's great to see! She was well-played here and I particularly like how you don't overplay her power levels - she's confused and concerned, and that's just great.

Points

Velduris: for her part in this, Ela is given the mark of Velduris by Karem. Please note it on your CS - you have the first three abilities. Alrur will become Ela's new Velduris familiar - which makes him spry and young again and thus, she will be able to get a new MB one.

Oram

Overview

Well, you get the award for the best post titles ever! I really love Oram - he's so much more complicated than he might at first seem. He is, like the Ogre in the story, something of an onion with many layers. I really look forward to seeing him develop his relationship with Cassion, too - should be fun!

When he's next alone, Oram will be approached by Cassion. For his part in the great adventure, and the fact that they have now met twice - Oram will be offered Cassion's mark. Please add this mark to your CS. You are awarded the first three abilities:
Blood Son
The first ability in Sojourn comes with the blood that is shared of Cassion. The marked is forever changed, transformed a small measure divine by the Immortal’s own blood and commitment. The blooded of Cassion find they are no longer satiated by stagnancy. To be a chosen of Cassion is to have your home always on the horizon. Staying longer than a single Arc in any one city will impart a thorough sense of lethargy and sap the health of the Sojourner until they have finally moved on. They must be away from the location longer than they stayed in order to build a tolerance once more. The Blooded of Cassion are vibrant people flowing with life. Each is gifted with enormous appetites and the ability to subsist on substandard food. So long as it is edible, they can thrive upon it. Each one heals half again as fast as another member of their race and can often push the limits of the endurance that a member of their species might have. By virtue of their divine nature, Sojourners can always recognize each other on sight and any object or person touched by Cassion.

Journey's Meal
A Sojourner must prepare many meals on the road between adventures. Most often, they are accompanied by others. This ability can only be used once a trial but allows any meal prepared for a Sojourner to satiate both themselves and their companions, no matter how little there was to prepare in the first place. In order to work, the Sojourner must do their best to make the meal as appetizing and filling as they have the material to provide. This Meal can feed the Sojourner and up to three other companions (including animals). Those who eat the meal will find the taste vastly improved, so long as the Sojourner explains either the origin or the process of making such food available as they are enjoying it.

Traveler's Skills I
The character is granted an extra three skill points which may be spent only on the following skills:Discipline, Fieldcraft, Sailing, Storytelling, Cooking, or Navigation. Any skill points granted by this Mark can break the 250 (or 100 if fast track) point cap on skills. Within these skills, the points may be spent how the pc chooses.

It doesn't seem to work, however, when he travels (be that over land or sea) he notices that it points him in strange directions. Should he ever follow it, he'll find that it is, in fact, a compass which points him to adventure. Something unusual. Things which seem out of place. It leads him to story. Tio

Overview

I can not tell you how much I love Tio. He is so wonderfully consistent whilst also being completely chaotic, it's fab. I very much enjoyed how you wrote Tio dealing with this event - his ideas were logical, even when it was the kind of logic only Tio has. Thank you so much for your contribution to the event, it's really appreciated.

Loot

1 x Gem. The gem vibrates in the presence of spirits, and allows you to see them, no matter what the spirit is. They can hide, but they have to actively do so and, so long as you don't make a fuss about it, they usually don't.

Cassion's Cookbook. Cassion's first task for Tio is for Tio to bring him a meal fit for the Immortal of the Road. He often finds himself bored by mundane food and wants something amazing. Something, he tells Tio, that Cassion will still be talking about in an arc. From an OOC perspective - the "teaching" that Cassion will do will be dependent on the effort Tio puts in to the tasks. PSF the plot line, and what aspect of your Immortal development you'd like it to meet, and we'll work it out!
