Call for reinforcements #1 The Mission
Cylus 7 of 720 - Storm's Edge
The way the situation was developing made it clear that they needed reinforcements. Yrmellyn had debated with herself about how she best could contribute right now. Should she stay as a lookout in the tower, go down to take part in physical work and direct battle or - take on to call for reinforcements? She wasn't the only one who could do the lookout work. She was certainly not well suited for labour or fighting. But, she felt that she did match the requirements on a recruiter of reinforcements.
Although not a super expert she was competent enough at riding a horse, persuading other people and leading them. Her biggest strength for this kind of mission was, however, her insights in humanoid psychology. It was hard to not gain that kind of insights when you were working as an artist and portrait painter. Now, it might help her to influence the citizenry in the region and make them come to help out at the keep. And ... she was a mage, albeit a very cautious one...she figured that attunement might be of some use too. For once.
She could return to Storm's Edge later and help out with what she could there. But, at the moment, she felt that the best she could do was to embark on a recruitment trip to Rharne and it's towns and villages. They would need to get messages to the Thunder Priestesses and Lightning Knights of course. But, Yrmellyn wasn't sure of how those used to deal with their internal communications. She would ask. It seemed best to not assume that it would be her own responsibility, although she would for sure be open for taking on to leave some messages to the knights and the priestesses.
She had taken her decision and so, she began to plan.
In her mind, she tried to envision a map of the region ... this was vague, as she didn't know much about maps, But, she did now a ton about envisioning things, as all artist does and she was born and raised in Rharne, so she had a fairly good grasp of what she could do. For a start, she could ride from Storm's Edge to Mistral Village. There she could try to rally more volunteers of all sorts and also make the lumberers in the village aware of the Storm's Edge's needs of construction labourers.
Mistral Village was located between Storm's Edge and Rharne and under normal weather conditions it would be (she guessed) one day's ride from the keep to the village. If Yrmellyn would start in the morning of Cylus 11 she could arrive in the evening the same trial. She could do the recruitment effort in Mistral Village during part of Cylus 12 and then be in Rharne in the evening as it was only half a day's ride from Mistral Village to the city. So, that would mean that she would be able to begin the recruitment effort in Rharne on Cylus 13. As Rharne was big it might take her several trials to spread the word there, but if she would get help from the city authorities it might speed up the work.
At that pace she might - just might - reach Caervalle on Cylus 17 or 18 or so. Yrmellyn thought of it, feeling displeased. It felt like she would be working against time. It would take time to go on from there to Volta and to Zynyx Market ... she might not be in Volta until the Cylus 23 or so ... and so, arrive in Zynyx Market in the very end of Cylus. Her sense of urgency made her cringe when she studied her first attempt at a time plan to detect options for improvement, Yrmellyn was an artist, not a diligent project planner. Her experience at logistics was nearly non-existent. It showed. The first attempt at planning was a miserable failure.
She edited her plan after detecting some possible changes she could do.
it wouldn't do to wait with the departure until Cylus 11. She would have to begin the journey as early as possible. Let's say ... During Cylus 7-8 she would ride to Rharne via Mistral Village, hopefully rallying some volunteers from Mistral on the way. Then, she would spend Cylus 9 in Rharne and contact authorities in Rharne to spread the word about the need for reinforcements in the city. Cylus 10-12 she would ride to Caervalle. On Cylus 13 she would do the recruitment effort there.
The ride from Carervalle to Volta would take another three trials or so which meant that she would arrive in Volta Cylus in the early evening of Cylus 16, recruit reinforcements there on Cylus 16 and then go on to Zynyx Market in the evening of Cylus 17. Volunteers joining late, in Zynyx Village would then be able to get to Storm's Edge during Cylus 18-20 depending on how they would travel there.
There. It might work. Anyway, she wasn't able to plan any better than this. Travel time estimates were always only estimates and things could happen along a journey. Feeling that she had done her best at planning - such as it was - Yrmellyn handed over the lookout work to one of the knights and went away to prepare herself for speaking to the military leaders in charge. She hoped that they would trust her with the recruitment mission, but she must prepare better.
