Gold Sand
Developed by Pegasus
Type of Material: Sand (Very Rare)
Acquired By: Exploration of Scalvoris mountains / coastline around to gather Sandspecks, or purchase of sandspecks. Chemistry or Alchemy at Master or above to extract the sand. At Master, Gold Sand is extracted one time every 50 attempts. At Legendary one time every 20.
Rarity: Only on specific beaches on the island of Scalvoris. Please see
this thread
Price: Not for sale, must have a Scalvoris Prophet overseeing
Other Information: During a ten-trial period in Ashan and another in Vhalar the 'sandspeck phenomena' happens on Scalvoris. Leaving behind tiny balls which glow on the ten-trial for arcs to come.
With a simple mortar and pestle and mastery of chemistry and alchemy, the sandspecks can be crushed into the very rare gold sand of Scalvoris. The trick is to combine the sandspeck with some other Scalv sand ~but this
must not be the colour of the sand it was found on and, in fact, must usually be a specific other sand, depending on which beach the sandspecks were foud on. Grind the sandspeck with that and a little salt and lo and behold, the result is gold sand. The trick is getting the proportion just right as this involves a lot of very precise measuring and, sometimes, guesswork on the part of the chemist / alchemist. When it is done correctly, though, all of the contents are gold sand. As identified above, this works one time in 50 for those with mastery level skill and one time in 20 for those at legendary. The remaining attempts are wasted and destroy the sandspeck.
Properties: Scalvoris Gold Sand has a number of legends around it. It is known that it is inherently magical in nature, it is strongly suspected that it is linked to the "Fracture Tides" of the Orm'del sea and there are whispers that it is able to be moulded into anything, it's magic shaped so that it can shape anything. But thus far, anyone who's tried has experienced a lot of alchemical backlash and no small amount of academic mockery.
The properties of this material: As laid out and approved in
Development of Gold Sand
Cannot be alchemically combined with other fractive elements.
Can only be alchemically imbued under the same rules as ensorcelled items (i.e. during initial creation, etc.).
Requires a capstone, obtained by way if IC development, to attempt to work into a magical item.
Requires Master level Glassblowing to work into or as glass without explosive failures occurring.
Echo of Creation: The sand holds echoes of everything it has been shaped into before. These echoes can be temporarily recalled by tapping into the sand’s memory (meditation of Expert or better), summoning past forms it once took, be they a weapon, tool, or even a sculpture or diorama. This ability allows users to call upon the imprinted forms, if only temporarily, to embody the form of the item at the quality of the crafter that shaped them originally.
Memory Sculptor: The sand can shape itself into detailed representations of a person’s memories. When held and focused on a specific past moment (meditation of Master or better), the sand forms intricate sculptures or scenes, capturing the memory in physical form. These memory-sculptures can be anything from miniature dioramas to complete, though miniature, replicas. However, the sculpture slowly fades as the memory loses emotional intensity, leaving only the formless sand behind.
Applicable to all its properties and formations; While taking on forms, in its raw sand state, the structure has no more solidity then firmly packed wet sand, but a talented Artizan (Master in a relevant Crafting Skill like Glass Blowing) may be able to impart this ability into their work, but must overcome the challenges surrounding how their solid an immovable medium might become fluid for the transition. As such, glass formed of this glass could shift with the same properties of the sand, but still remain just as fragile as glass. If broken however, the glass can and will reform itself over time, like a self-building jigsaw puzzle. If not prevented from doing so (it is not continually smashed or bits removed or destroyed completely) over the course of a trial or more, it will eventually reform (at a rate of a meter cubed per day) as if never broken at all.
The same is not true for any medium outside the purest of sands or glass, i.e. if imbued into something else like metal or added as an alloy of any kind, the shape-shifting capabilities usually result in catastrophic backlash occuring.

There are (you will be unsurprised to learn!) secrets to be discovered about this material!
Requires input from a Scalvoris mod & a number of threads, some of which will be moderated.
What? It's just sand..... |
