Black Cats Recruitment
Bad luck to you if we cross your path...
The Black Cats were once one of Yaralons fabled mercenary companies, and their recruitment office, following the shadow beast attack of Vhalar 716 moved to Almund. Historically, the Black Cats were composed of at least half Scalvorians, now entirely either Scalorians or regular visitors from Viden. Many who wind up joining the Black Cats from Scalvoris wind up taking the surname Zy'Nacj (Defilers of Life, or as they tend to explain it, Killers in Rakahi) in a further show of solidarity and bluster. For some families, this is tradition and so the surname Zy'Nacj has become one of, if not the, most popular surnames in Scalvoris
The Black Cats are an interesting company. They vary between about one hundred to two hundred strong and, these days, are used almost exclusively as muscle on digs, excavations and exploration. This means any recruits can expect some strange and varied training on top of the usual sword drills and marching.
This particular recruitment office is only permanently manned by a single Sergeant, one Kemp Zy'Nacj though it has the facilities to sleep up to ten. It has a small courtyard that is theoretically for training, but is most often used by Kemp to eat his lunch in the sun.

Other Information: Kemp was and is a successful soldier in his own right, but was chosen to man the recruitment office in Almund for a single reason. His connections. As well as being born and bred on Scalvoris, he's also the uncle of Vadni Ratsa, the Pirate Lord known as the Bard. He was never close to his nephew and, if he knows anything about the disappearnce of the Pirate Lords, he's never mentioned it to anyone.
Kemp is a rough, hearty man with a black gallows humor. He firmly believes that any young man needs at least a decade working with a sword in his hand before he can really consider himself a man. He likely would have been a pirate if he didn't suffer from debilitating sea sickness in any body of water larger than a bathtub. Life with the Cats suited him just fine, and while he'd like to be back in action, if he has to be retired, being paid to go home, have a bed and meals provided just for steering likely prospects into the Cats doesn't seem so bad.
Price List
The Black Cats are rarely hired in groups of smaller than ten, although five for smaller expeditions is not unheard of. As well as each mans pay, the cost of any job factors in travel, food, supplies and risk. That being the case, set prices are almost impossible, instead being established on a contract by contract basis.
Job Information
Players are welcome to speak with Kemp to join the Black Cats through this office. Pay is established based on skill after their first engagement. Very basic food and board as well as basic equipment is provided. First engagements do not need to be contracts that encompass the entire Company. Recruits who've proven themselves against bandits, thugs, beasts or the like get raised to full pay as well.
