The Temple of Worship
Every city, whether they freely admit to it or not, will have a spiritual centre. Ultimately, those native to the city of Viden have profound loyalty to the Immortal of Intelligence and Communication. Long generations of humans have been taught (based in fact) that their survival was dependant solely on Yvithia's mercy. Eídisi, however, understand and accept that she is the reason for their existence. However this loyalty is just that - loyalty. The constant presence of Yvithia in Viden leave her citizens in no doubt of her existence, thus they cannot claim a 'faith' in her honour. Yvithia is worshipped, to an extent, but she is honoured as a ruler, a leader, a Queen... rather than an Immortal.
Given Yvithia's indifferent approach to anything but learning, she also has a relatively low tolerance for frivolity, and does not accept far-reaching festivals in her name. Yet she allows for the existence of a place of well-mannered worship for the people of Viden, whether it be in her honour or others. In fact, all faiths are welcomed so long as the laws of Viden are obeyed. Because it it, for all intents and purposes, a multi-faith building, it is the only official religious structure of its kind in the city. The temple has a number of priests and priestesses attached to it, but it is mainly a place of meditation and reflection of the individual, rather than prayer for the masses.
The temple is an elegant building crafted of native stone with lofty ceilings and wonderful stonework. Enormous pews made of imported pale yew fill the interior, seating a moderate number individuals. Small slits for windows allow in only a small amount of the grey light from the often overcast skies of the North, so most make do with individual candles, or light from constantly burning flames in various alcoves around the temple. The doors are always unlocked, and there are always two guards posted just beyond said doors, though their position is almost entirely ceremonial - never before has the temple suffered a single crime to happen within it's walls.
