Fridgar's gesture of goodwill seemed to help, for shortly after their hand met Kaelrik's shoulder, his heartbeat began to slow and his breathing eased. That was nice, at least. Fridgar enjoyed making things easier for kind people, and Kaelrik was very kind. After the smaller man thanked him for his attempt at comforting him, he began to smile a little. Fridgar smiled in return, then nodded to Kaelrik's explanation of why he didn't mind being Alistair's slave so much. Of course, Alistair was very kind, as always, and very considerate, even to his slave. Fridgar's grin grew wider and they snickered a little at the thought. "That's kinda funny without context," the larger Lothar said, then shook their head. "A circumstance where the slave wants to remain in servitude more than the master wants to keep a slave, it's cute."

Fridgar's smile faded a little. "It's good that you enjoy your servitude, there's no need to flagellate yourself over what happened arcs ago. Do right by becoming stronger, by sticking it to that lurker," they offered their words of encouragement, then made their offer to train with him. Kaelrik quirked his head at first, which was understandable. How could he expect to keep pace with a beast that lived and breathed the plains themselves? He soon voiced his concerns too but said that he would train with Fridgar regardless. The Protean nodded with understanding, then pat Kaelrik's back a couple of times heartily. "That's the spirit. I don't expect you to keep pace with me, just push yourself, give 110% effort and you'll do fine."

What else could they ask from another man? As long as Kaelrik was pushing himself to his limit, then further, he would grow stronger and learn to fight harder. It was how Fridgar learned, Kaelrik could too. They felt Kaelrik smile even wider with a certain sincerity; it warmed their heart.

Then came the matter of organizing a time and place. Fridgar took a deep breath, they stole themselves to leave the warmth of Kaelrik's body and lifted themselves from the ground on which they sat with the exhale of that deep breath and a groan. "Well, I've made plans to mentor a friend of mine in becoming on the morning of the thirty-second. Once I'm done with that, I can come and find you around noon?" Fridgar tapped their nose with a knowing smile. "This thing can find you from a fair way away, so don't worry about the location. I'll find my way."

Kaelrik thought about the context of his circumstance. There was so much about his situation that was complicated he wasn’t quite sure that he saw the full humor in what Fridgar was referring to. Nevertheless, he did manage a smile. It was reassuring to hear from another of his people. To spend time around Alistair with his Lotharro undead and seeing some of the Lotharro that had known only Quacia was one thing, but to hear such…welcoming things from a kinsman of Gauthrel? It brought a sense of closure to Kaelrik that he hadn’t been expecting.

Part of him had been expecting Fridgar to recoil from him in disgust. Was that still possible? Entirely. The way Fridgar had presented himself however, Kaelrik got the feeling that the man was not one to hide his opinion. With a glance up and down the man’s massive form, Kaelrik got the distinct impression that Fridgar said and expressed what was on his mind quite clearly when the whim suited him. The other part of Kaelrik hadn’t known what to expect. It had been years since he had spent any time around his kinsmen from the Fields of Gauthrel and Uthaldria. Until a season ago, Kaelrik hadn’t considered even going back to his homeland. He still didn’t, at least not in the immediate future.

You are a Becomer?” That was something about Fridgar that he did not know. He focused on some of the man’s more obviously beastly traits. Knowing that the man was a practitioner of the magic of Becoming suddenly made his appearance make even more sense. “You have my respect, Beastwalker.

Kaelrik smiled. He knew that Kleine was a practitioner of Becoming, and a very adept one at that, but he hadn’t truly encountered many more than that outside of his homeland. He was truly interested to see how the beast of a man’s powers affected their sparring. It made him smile warmly and with much excitement.

It will not be hard to find me, Fridgar. I am here or wherever else that the Master needs me.” Kaelrik chuckled. “Which is usually never very far from here.” Alistair had been distant as of late. It concerned Kaelrik but given the circumstances considering the arrival of a husband thought dead and a family lost, he understood. He did not crowd Alistair and was certain that the man would find his way in his own time.

Recognizing that their conversation was drawing to a close, Kaelrik rose to his feet. He gave Fridgar a slight bow.

Until noon then.” He turned on his heel to leave but paused on his way out. “If you have need of anything, you need only call. The winds will carry your voice to me. Well…most of the time anyways.

With that, Kaelrik left the den leaving Fridgar to the warmth of the hearth and to prepare himself for what would undoubtedly be a very challenging bout of training.

A beautifully written scene here by both of you.

Fridgar, it was interesting to see your PC so out of his element, cooped up in a castle, and one in lifeless, oppressive land such as Quacia. And the fact that he had to do so without the benefit of eyesight, I could really feel his desperation and discomfort.

Kaelrik, I enjoyed learning more about your character, it sounds like he's led quite the interesting life. From a hunter in the Fields of Gauthrel to a gladiator in the pits of Quacia. The way he told his story to Fridgar really brought it to life.

Enjoy the points and knowledge, you two.
