Smooglenuff Manor

Smooglenuff Manor is a beautiful, huge, sprawling manor house that is located west of the Sentinel and that houses the three new Barons of Faldrass, Darius, Devin and Nir’wei, that succeeded the late Baron Rodrigues Von Smooglenuff. It is surrounded by a wall with a cast-iron gate and made of exquisite and very sturdy stone in various shades of grey that can even withstand a volcanic eruption or an earthquake (Not that it is located in an earthquake zone, there was just one earthquake, and it was a special one!).

While the walls themselves look comparatively normal, the roof itself is a dark kind of purple, because purple is the favorite color of Devin, the Baron of the Manor. It’s a comparatively tasteful kind of purple though, and what more, the roof shimmers slightly due to the addition of Gemmi Wood to the shingles (that also makes the roof much more durable).

There are balconies and terraces, one of them being on the roof, and numerous chimneys.

Upon walking down the path from the gate that is framed by flowerbeds that are filled with beautiful and sometimes very strange flowers, visitors will find themselves at a large, imposing door that is made of thick wood and has a large iron knocker on it. Upon knocking, they are usually greeted by a guard, or a servant and asked to wait in the entrance hall that contains comfortable looking chairs and a grand staircase that leads to the upper floors, unless there are other orders.

The interior of Smooglenuff Manor is quite tasteful, for the most part, with marble floors, exquisite wall panels, tasteful paintings, expensive windows, some of them made of stained glass, crystal chandeliers and curtains that are made of the finest velvet. The furniture is no less expensive, fine, exotic wood, with intricate carvings, marble and glass. Everything has obviously been chosen with the goal of showing off in mind though.

The floorplan of the new Smooglenuff Manor was inspired by the old manor; there are certain differences though. While the old manor resembled a large tower, the new manor looks like a proper manor house. In addition to a private study, there is a big library that is filled with numerous books on all kinds of topics now. It contains a painting of the late Baron, and it was created in order to remember and honor the man and his love of stories.

There are a meeting room, a ballroom, a large dining room, a kitchen, bathrooms, servant quarters and everything else that you would expect from the residence of three Barons and their charges (and a very spacious basement that is neither damp nor particularly dark, but actually kind of nice, for storage and other purposes). The more formal rooms are separate from the living quarters and the guest rooms, of course, and the servant quarters are separate from those of the Barons as well as their charges Alyssia and ChiChi. Every Baron’s living quarters are furnished to their own specifications and tastes to make sure that they are as comfortable as possible.

In addition to the aforementioned, one of the rooms has also been turned into a small clinic.

There are stables next to Smooglenuff Manor that house horses and other animals, and furthermore, there is a large garden that is surrounded by hedges and that contains a small pond, a rock garden and a small collection of fruit trees.

The wall that surrounds the manor is not the only protective measure. A small military force patrols inside and outside the manor.

Miranda tends to be a quiet, soft-spoken young woman most of the time, but she can get quite loud if she has to which is why you shouldn't get on her bad side.

Don't underestimate her because of her size!

At Smooglenuff Manor, Miranda is responsible for coordinating the rest of the employees and helping the Baron of the Manor make sure that everything runs smoothly - which she does efficiently and with passion.

That's not the only thing that she is passionate about though. Miranda also loves gardening, and needlework. Sometimes, she will fuss over the people in her vicinity, and if she sees a hole in your clothes, you shouldn't refuse to let her mend it!

Details: Ada has ruddy curls that are very hard to tame, rosy cheeks, freckles and lively green eyes. She is a bit of on the curvy side, and she prefers to wear floral dresses and frills. For the better part of two decades, she owned a restaurant in Scalvoris Town. When her husband died, she felt the need to get away from everything though. Fortunately, it was just then that she found out that Smooglenuff Manor was looking for a cook.

Ada is a very sociable woman that smiles a lot. She prefers to focus on the good things in life and look to the future rather than mourning what she’s lost, because her husband wouldn’t want her to be sad all the time. Ada has a twenty-arc-old son, Anthony, who is a student of engineering at the university of Scalvoris and lives in his own apartment in Scalvoris Town.

As far as hobbies are concerned, Ada absolutely loves reading and telling adventure stories, and she enjoys hiking and going for walks which is why you can often find her outside in her spare time.

Details: Korim is the son of a Biqaj father and a human mother who spent the first couple of arcs of his life on his father’s ship before his mother moved back to Scalvoris with him. The typical Biqaj way of life never agreed with Korim; he doesn’t care about the sea, he doesn’t enjoy swimming, he doesn’t meddle in other people’s affairs, and he does not care about money.

At least that’s what he claims. He does have a bit of a mischievous streak, even though he denies it!

Korim is annoyed by the reputation that his father’s race has and all the stereotypes. He doesn’t want other people to see him as some sort of uncivilized and mysterious being that wants to cause trouble. Korim is particular about etiquette and aims to uphold certain standards in his daily life. He does have a penchant for pretty jewelry though and appreciates art, just like his father’s kind. In fact, he is quite a decent painter.

Temple of Delroth

For a long time, there had only been a dilapidated little shrine in that spot just outside of Scalvoris Town. People – and there were a lot of people as the area got a lot of foot traffic – had wrinkled their noses when they had looked at it and remarked that the Council should remove that terrible eyesore. Rats had done their business in it, among other things.

In Ymiden 718, the shrine finally received a new priest, Devin Thorn, who had decided to restore the shrine. He’d travelled as far as Desnind in order to find treasure to decorate it with. The shrine that was no bigger than a garden shed began to look quite beautiful as a consequence, as a shrine that is dedicated to the Immortal of Vanity should.

In Ashan 721, it received a magnificent extension.

The little shrine with its white walls that are decorated with red and golden ornaments, its altar, its golden benches, its bird sculptures and its tapestries is part of something much bigger now.

The exceedingly complex and luxurious building follows a similar color scheme as the shrine that has become a place for private ceremonies and prayers rather than a location where masses are being held.

The walls are a brilliant shade of white with delicate red and golden ornaments and painted with birds, and the benches where the congregation sits during mass are made of finely carved dark wood.

There are fancy decorations and big stained-glass windows with Delroth-themed motives that can be opened in order to let in fresh air – and wind, because wind is one of Delroth’s domains.

The central part of the main chamber is the altar behind which the glorious painting of Delroth that was originally part of the little shrine hangs – because Delroth’s face shouldn’t be hidden in a little shrine when it can be part of a much bigger temple instead.

Apart from the main chamber and the little shrine there are three more rooms in the temple – a storage room that contains all kinds of supplies that might be needed in a Temple of Delroth, a room where people can get educated about Delroth and a small private room for the High Priest Devin Thorn himself where he can change into his robes, pray and get ready for mass, among other things.
