Appearance

Korun cuts an impressive figure among the foreign races of the Hotlands; standing at an intense 8'1 and weighing in at roughly 310 pounds. His form is wrapped in the ridged skin his kind is known for, it's charcoal grey hue making his already noticeable figure stand out even more. Korun keeps his course black and silver-streaked hair long, wound tight into individual braids which hang from his head. Starting from the center of his forehead and trailing down the left side of his face are the marks of his god, Vhalar. They stand out in stark contrast of his dark skin, a soft white collection of runic letters which shimmer slightly in the light. He has strong, proud features befitting one of his family's lineage, his impish gaze being the only exception to his Novar traits. Korun's eyes, grey and smiling, stare outward with the quiet intensity of an artist; always looking for the next source of inspiration.

In cold climates, Korun prefers to dress as little as possible. His skin built for ice and snow, he prefers to let the elements settle into his ridged skin than wrap himself in furs and cloths as other races might. In warmer climates or in cultures he has not quite acclimated to yet, Korun will uncomfortably don a pair of pants and perhaps a shirt for politeness' sake. The one consistent across any of his outfits is Korun's sculpting tool built. He may not know when inspiration will strike, but Korun will be ready when it does.
Personality

A child of ice and snow with eyes that burn bright, Korun is not what one might expect of an Ellune. He is passionate and impatient, an individual who prefers action among a collectivist society which preaches patience. Korun is used to feeling of having his opinions looked down upon, and as such, has no fear of sharing them. That is not to say he is without tact, but that he will simply speak his mind as honestly and as painlessly as possible. Open and compassionate, Korun bears a bleeding heart which at times can be too trusting for his own good. He cares deeply about others and their problems, and despite his rejection of many Ellunian cultural norms, he still loves the feeling of being in a community. This care for others allows him to be an effective leader, and an even more dangerous enemy. When something or someone he cares about is threatened, there ruthlessness which crawls out of Korun and into the waking the waking world.

There is, however, a small part of himself that he keeps locked away for his own safety; a side which emerges in the art which he makes. For Korun, his art is his life. It is the one passion that he will never allow anyone to take from him, and he his never happier or more terrified than when he is presenting a recently finished work. Art is his coping mechanism and his escape from whatever might be troubling him. It is not a pass-time, or even a career for him. For Korun, sculpting is a calling bordering on the divine.

History

Son of a well-known Sublimator, Korun's life was determined for him before he even took his first frigid breath. First-born of his two other siblings, every decision he made was made three times. Once when he did it, once again when his brother did it, and once again when his sister imitated what his brother did. As Korun grew up, each option he took was weighted down by this knowledge. He strove to be the best son he possibly could, both for his parent's sake and for the example he would leave behind. Naturally talented with Nilas and born with an easy-authority, the life of an officer in Tried's army seemed a near absolute for the adolescent Korun. He trained relentlessly to bring out the cold within, to become as skilled a soldier as his father. Not because he loved that life, but because that life would serve the community and bring pride to his family's name. As a first-born in an Ellune family, Korun knew this would be his burden to bear. He accepted it, even grew accustomed to the idea of his future serving others. His was to be devoted to Triedhart, and all was well with the world.

The moment that a trader ship rolled into port at Oscillus, everything changed for Korun. A rare sight for any of his kind, being as cut off from the outside world as they were, every young Ellune on the island scrambled onto the crowded dock to see what wonders of the Hotlands that ship held. Korun was one of many who saw the goods the ship brought in that day, but it wasn't the swords or the armor of the outside which caught his eye. No, it was a strange, undecipherable statue that held his gaze. Its shapes were so different to the art that Korun saw on the island. Alien curves and deep, emotional meaning behind every line of the bust, it was the first time the Ellune had ever been moved by a piece like this. It didn't just call to him, it woke him up. He needed to have it, needed to replicate it. He took what little allowance his father allowed him to have and spent it all on what many would consider to be a piece of junk. However, to Korun, it was the greatest treasure he had ever stumbled upon. That strange statue form a trader's ship changed his life.

Every night since then, Korun spent time in secret learning the sculptor's trade. He knew his father wouldn't approve, art like was, not devoted to the glory of Tried, was far too impractical in his father's eye. His father would have called it "useless" and "nonsense". Korun loved it all the same. Each break he spent using Nilas to create for himself, the further he fell from the path laid for him. In darkness and in snow Korun learned what it meant to be himself; to be creative and passionate and impatient all at once. He poured his frustrations into his art, sculpting works both realistic and abstract in appearance. He was consumed by a need to create something other than weapons for Tried, to create something not for a god's glory but for his own love. The more art he made, the more this individual mindset infiltrated his daily life. Every day, his conversations with his parent's grew more tense. Every arc, it became more and more apparent that something had changed in Korun radically. That his father's little soldier had broken rank and become something else in secret.

Yet, despite the blooming conflict, Korun still stayed on the Sublimator's path. When it came time to choose a profession, he did as was expected of him and enlisted as a Sublimator. Korun thought himself clever enough to hide his passion from his father while serving his heritage faithfully. He was wrong.

It was his third arc enlisted in Tried's army when his father discovered Korun's collection of art. A hundred sculptures from arcs gone passed, all made from Korun's own hand. Sculptures which Korun's father only saw as a distraction from valuable work. Sculptures that had no devotion to tried, and as such had no value to society. They were haunting, and angry, and raw. To his father, they were useless. Worse, they were a distraction to his duties as a Sublimator. They were the cause of every veiled fight and every barbed word exchanged between father and son. They were a divide in the family unit he worked so hard to preserve. They needed to be destroyed.

When Korun returned to find his father waiting for him at the entrance of his collection, he knew something was amiss. Nothing, however, would have prepared him for the depth of black rage he would feel as he saw years of his work reduced to nothing but rubble. No words existed to reel in his temper, and there was no justification for this breadth of destruction. He lashed out at his father, searing cold laced with fury flying from his hands. He left his father unconscious and frozen to the wall of his collection. By the time word reached him that his own blood was accusing him of blasphemy and treason, Korun had already slipped away on a ship sailing to the Hotlands.

Abilities

  • Autumn’s Servent
    • This ability grants the Valeus a small Autumn spirit familiar. Taking the physical manifestation of autumn leaves, and the strong smell of a Harvest, this spirit is not one granted for combat but rather for protection. The spirit can innately communicate when something the Favored is about to eat is rotten, altered, or poisoned. Ordinarly it is a patient and quiet spirit, communicating in simple concepts and generally enjoying the Favored's presence.
  • Art Works (1 color)
    • For Vhalar, there is no greater pursuit than that of an artist. This ability works off that artist's skill of creation. Drawing, Painting, or Sculpting are the skills used in tangent with this power specifically, although some dancers and poets have found some success utilizing it as well. This ability allows the artist to create a small item from a special Immortal paint they can draw from their mark. Usually this item can be no larger than a long sword and must be a simple item. 1 color refers to the first color of Vhalar's palatte that the Favored has to draw from. This can be any color but it is the only color that can be used with this ability. Creations last only a few breaks before dissolving and this ability cannot be used more than twice a trial at this level.

However, since his fight with his father and subsequent exile from Triedhart, he is loathe to don the armor despite its elegance. Still, he refuses to sell the armor out of respect from where he came from, and because of a hope that he might one day return.
