appearance.

i am shadows i am uncertainty i am not really there
i am all your ghosts and all your fears rolled into one nightmare

Rain and River are mirror images; deja vu. Identical twins, there is no way to tell them apart. There isn't even a mole that the other does not have. They are small statured and lithe, standing at 5'3", diminutive and sprite-like. Albino twins, there is no colour on their bodies. Their eyelashes, hair, skin, are all a pale, translucent hue, like ivory. However, being that they live in the wilderness, their bodies are often covered in mud and dirt, and occasionally, blood. Their eyes are a strange colour, sometimes almost purple, and other times a pale red.

personality.

i am silence i am death i am wind between trees
i am everything you never wanted to know about yourself

Watching. Waiting. Reveling in silence, in the wind through leaves, Rain is content to wait and assess before she makes a decision. When she does make a decision, it will be the result of careful forethought and analysis. While her sister is the more playful of the two, Rain will spend breaks sitting in silence and watching something as simple as a fly buzzing around a clearing, or the running of a river. Rain prefers to stay away from the action, watching from afar. That is not to say she is not curious. Rain and River are ever curious about the world about them; they just go about it in very different ways.

That being said, one of the quickest ways to get Rain excited and frivolous is the hunt. She is silent as a snake, but once she has killed whatever poor beast she was stalking, Rain will light up. She will bathe in the blood, laugh and dance around the corpse, entranced by the red hue and the sensation of blood on her skin.

history.

i am memory i am loss i am blood stains on stone
i am what you always wanted to forget but couldn't

They had to have been born... The pair of them, they must have come squalling into the world much the same as any other child would have. But the twins, they don't remember that. They don't remember being named, or having birthtrials... They don't remember parents or friends or schola. They did not remember being brought into the world and being called monstrosities. They did not remember their parents having to leave their homes and lives to protect two small ghostly children.

What they do remember is waking up. Amidst the cold winter snows, embedded in frost and crunching leaves, the twins remember waking. Surrounding them, steam still rising from the bodies, were a man and a woman, eviscerated and left to rot. The girls, having been shielded and covered in blood, somehow managed to survive. Frenzy and panic welled up in them, threatening to break through. If anyone could get close enough to them, they'd say the panic did. Shattered psyches remained after the gruesome awakening, and both twins ventured, lost, into the forests of Burhan.

Starvation and exposure threatened to take them, and they only survived on sheer luck. They found a small den, uninhabited, and hunkered down through the storm. The den, once inhabited by some bandit or another, contained a few small supplies, but no food. Instead, what they found were weapons, hardly in any shape to be considered useable. It did not matter to the twins, who'd never held a weapon in their lives. They needed to eat.

River took knives and disappeared into the forest. Rain sat still, thinking, wondering what was out there. On a whim, almost, she picked up one of the old bows that had been left in the forest cave. Almost like a musical instrument, she plucked the string and smiled at the 'twang' that echoed through the cave. Twang, twang, twang, she played, and giggled. And that over there... it looked like a violin bow. She picked up the long thing with feathers on the end, and drew it across the string of the bow. It whistled as it moved, and Rain opened her mouth in a gasp. Music. Violent music.

And waiting for River, Rain stepped out into the damp forest, playing her makeshift instrument. Twing. Twang. Whistle. And then - accident. Rain sent the arrow flying across the clearing, skittering into the undergrowth. She giggled, ran back, retrieved the arrow. Again again. Again - and it flew! Giggling, Rain practiced with the bow, partly as a game, and partly to ignore the hunger seeping into her bones.

Even when River came back with food, Rain still kept an eye on this magical instrument. And over time, she got a little better, a little more accurate, until Rain was bringing back deer and wild forest things as often as River did. Playing her bow, Rain has skittered with River around the forests of Burhan for ten arcs, laughing in the trail of blood they leave.

Local towns speak of two ghosts that laugh and bathe themselves in violence, leaving dead bodies and carcasses in their wake, stealing food and slipping through windows.

Rain doesn't know much about ghosts. But she does know that this game of life and death is a very fun one to play.

i am above i am floating i am flying like whispers on wind

River and Rain live together in a shoddily constructed treehouse, built over time out of necessity more than anything. Their initial shelters were based on the ground, where their stores were raided by wildlife. In the trees, however, the two can safely store was little belongings they have. Mostly, it's a space large enough for the two to sleep, with unconnected "rooms" in surrounding trees. These wooden platforms are usually loaded with their food barrels, each used to store something different. The treehouse, which isn't one structure, is used only for sleep by the twins, and often only when they aren't hunting or raiding.
