Genuvah

Name: Genuvah is his true name, his primary form's alias is Cowle Rioghsson. He never bothered to take the time to invent a separate persona for his secondary form, although he used to go by the same name in that form when in Rharne.

Age: 18

Race: Yludih

Date of Birth: Ashan 21st 699

Marks: None

Factions Joined: None

Languages Spoken: Fluent Common, Broken Ulehi, Broken Rakahi, Broken Common Sign

Appearance

True Form: A formation of crystals that take on the vague shape of a humanoid. Just a collection of jagged crystalline points forming skinny limbs. His form isn't very sophisticated just yet.

Primary Forms:

Cowle Rioghsson (The second): Genuvah takes the form of a mixed blood human/aukari, as per his parents' assumed races. This was his second form taken, after learning of his true nature and being schooled in the ways of the Yludih. The first was that of an Aukari, which was his mother's primary form. In his mixed blood human/aukari form, he has deep, auburn hair that is short-cropped and styled into waves that part to the right and left. His eyes are a dark brown, almost black, each set to the side of a aquiline nose. His mouth is curved downward in a slight frown, while his eyebrows are straight across his eyes. His jawline is rounded. In this form, he appears as above average in height at 6', with a thickly-muscled, yet unrefined build from so much combat training. His ears have a slight point to them, which seems to delineate biqaj heritage.

Selmon Barber: The latest form that Genuvah has adopted. Selmon is a human of fair complexion, with a blonde mop of hair framing soft facial features. His face is somewhat asymmetrical with one lazy eye, a double chin, and puffy cheeks. His ears are prominent, small but sticking out from behind messy hair. Selmon stands at about 5'6", with a physique that doesn't speak of much physical activity. His eyes are blackish brown.

Cowle Rioghsson (The First): Genuvah's original form, that of an Aukari, with the typical fire-red hair, red-brown eyes, and tanned skin. His facial features are similar, yet more angular in this form, while his body tends to show less signs of combat training. He's a bit thinner and less muscular in this form as well.

Personality

Genuvah is a man at odds with the idea of honor. On the one hand, he sees the value in the tenets of Chivalry, protecting the weak, upholding the social order to protect those needing protection. Yet with the way his life has gone, he's hard pressed to bring himself to throw behind any specific government, given that most of them despise or distrust his true kind. Even as an apparent human with mixed Aukari heritage, he's encountered bigotry from certain individuals. He doesn't mind the idle comments and jibes of burning things down or blowing up or what have you, but the ones who will refuse to deal with an Aukari have given him pause when it comes to dealing with humanity and it's governments.

He's managed to reduce his sense of honor to loyalty to those who are loyal to him in turn, as well as helping others who have true need of his aid.

History

Birth

Genuvah was born to Riogh, a Lightning Knight of Rharne's city guard who posed as an ordinary human and a Shadow Quarter smuggler that posed as an Aukari. It may have seemed like an odd pairing, an honorable guard of the city and someone who smuggled people and goods under the nose of the port authorities. There was a rationale behind their association, however. Genuvah's father had an idealistic view of the Yludih based on his own sense of honor, thinking they ought to be accepted by the Authorities of Rharne, and not treated like criminals. He met Genuvah's mother when she was in the process of transporting a small enclave of mixed races into port, with at least half of them being Yludih. Seeing the pathetic living conditions and poverty of the refugees moved him enough to inform the port authorities that there was nothing suspicious aboard the ship. So the people who were hidden in crates were gingerly handled by the crew and smuggled into the city.

Those Yludih who had passed through the city unnoticed, formed an enclave of their own. Genuvah's mother knew what they were ahead of time, and often hung around their chosen gathering point near the harbour. Riogh had other dealings with her later, some more iniquitous than others, and eventually through shared hardships and mutual desperation they discovered each others' nature. Eventually they became friends, and later fell in love. It wasn't long after that secret affair came to be, that Genuvah was born.

Childhood

Genuvah was raised alongside the enclave, with his mother, Martha joining it. She and his father took turns looking after him. She taught him how to perform deceptions and put on disguises to avoid drawing attention to his apparent Aukari heritage. He knew his mother had never known their people (Aukari), as she didn't speak their tongue, and only carried on conversations in the common language of Idalos. His father took it upon himself to prepare him to squire someday. He tutored him in Linguistics, unarmed combat, and drilled him to build on his strength and endurance, the foundations of the Lightning Knight's training. It was his goal one day to have his son serve as a Lightning Guard beside him.

His mother and father both lived apart during this time, although they shared the responsibilities of tutoring young Genuvah, whom they named Cowle Rioghsson in keeping with his father's persona. Martha had chosen to name him Genuvah in Ulehi, or Loyal Lightning, out of respect for the father's aspirations to bring his son into the knighthood.

He often passed time playing with the other children in the Enclave. Riogh came to think of them as his own in time, and included them in lessons with his own son, particularly the martial arts, of which many of them had an interest in. Eventually, an agent of the Cheshire following Genuvah's mother, found out about the Enclave of Yludih inhabiting Rharne, and extorted them in order to bring in more money for his organization. They paid the Cheshire well for a long time, before they even found out that Genuvah's father himself was a Lightning Knight of the Guard.

When the Cheshire's agent found out about Genuvah's father, he got even greedier, extorting Riogh for every coin he had. Eventually the corruption or Riogh came to the attention to the city guard Knights, and after investigating, the Yludih was thrown into jail. Genuvah, when his father failed to appear for many seasons, began to worry, as did his mother who was landbound while Riogh was without the ability to communicate to his family what had happened.

The agent of the Cheshire gradually milked the enclave for the rest of its wealth, until it was entirely destitute. Meanwhile, Riogh was being interrogated and tortured, to find out why he had succumbed to corruption. After a few seasons, Riogh finally broke to the interrogators, confessing that he was a Yludih. The guard could scarcely believe that anyone could keep such a secret for so many arcs, yet the evidence was incontrovertible. Riogh's former squire and fellow knight, Sir Cormier was worried, being the only guard that knew of Riogh's family. He decided to act on loyalty to his jailed friend, in spite of the law of the land, and save his family while the father was scheduled for the execution of his sentence.

At almost the same time, the agent of the Cheshire that had been extorting money from the enclave of Yludih, decided that he'd cash out. He made an ultimatum to Genuvah's mother that if she and every other Yludih lowlife didn't pay what was left of their wealth, he would be forced to inform the authorities of their existence and location. Martha was no fool. She knew once the agent got what he wanted, he would try and worm his way out of complicity, telling the guard of their existence anonymously and fading back into the shadows. She refused, and the agent escaped the wrath of the Yludih gathered there.

Martha gathered her son and several other Yludih who she could afford safe passage with. She was also determined to find out what had happened to Riogh. It was then that Sir Cormier arrived at the Enclave. She greeted him curtly, to which he informed her what had happened to her consort. With no time to lose grieving his loss, they made their way out of the city, through the ill-traveled back alleyways and sewers when necessary.

The agent hadn't wasted any time in informing the authorities about the Yludih posing as ordinary citizens. Their enclave was raided swiftly, and the whereabouts of Martha, Genuvah, and the rest of the refugees leaving for parts unknown was relinquished to the guard. Martha beat them to the port, where she quickly located one of her former smuggling cohorts. After a tense negotiation, she and the rest of the Yludih gathered there agreed to pay all of their wealth in order to book transport to a port in Eastern Idalos. After all of the Yludih and their children were funneled onboard, in crates and other secret stashes aboard the cog, the city guard arrived. Genuvah was still with his mother and Sir Cormier when they arrived, saying their goodbyes and giving thanks to the brave and loyal guardsman. When they saw that the guards had arrived to search and destroy the ship that harbored those Yludih, Martha made a tough decision to stay and distract the guard. She did so alone, sending off Sir Cormier and her son to get on the boat so that it could get underway. Sir Cormier promised to watch over and guard her son as long as he drew breath on his honor as a knight, while Genuvah fought to stay by his mother's side. Nevertheless, Cormier was far stronger and able to pull Genuvah along with him, onto the boat. The last time Genuvah saw his mother, she was being struck down by one of the Lightning Knights.

Adolescence

While he sailed from Rharne to the east, Genuvah was inconsolable, least of all to Sir Cormier. He blamed the Knight for his mother's apparent death, and his unwillingness to defend and let him defend her. Sir Cormier took it hard, but allowed the boy to stew in his own juices for a while, leaving him among his own kind for the time being, while he guarded against anyone on the black-sailed ship trying to turn the Yludih out.

It was during this voyage that Genuvah met another Yludih by the name of Qada, who took it upon himself to teach the boy about his true heritage. At first it was a hard pill to swallow for the young Genuvah, but Qada was able step by step to dismantle the illusions both mental and emotional that had been crafted around the boy for so many of his early years by his parents. He learned to commune with Uleuda from Qada, where he learned more about the spoken language of his people and how to shapeshift into different forms. It was around then that he took on his primary form. He henceforth changed it from Aukari to his own impression of a mix of Human and Aukari. Since then he has had a mental block on changing back to his first form, associating it with the pain and loss of his parents.

In time he arrived at a point where he could forgive Sir Cormier, who he realized had sacrificed everything he stood for to save the life of his friend's child. Cormier took it in good humor, understanding the boy's viewpoint, and began to finish his training as well as he could.

Young Adulthood

Genuvah, or Cowle Rioghsson as he went by henceforth, learned under Sir Cormier, staying in the same city as the former Lightning Knight to be mentored and watched over by him. In time Cormier became like a second father, teaching him further in the ways of Chivalry. When the young man grew to his full measure, they went out to buy some armor for him, with what was left of his father's coin. Sir Cormier had been entrusted with the nels that were confiscated from Riogh's house, and so let him know that the armor was truly his and nobody else's. From there, in Scalvoris, the two went their separate ways, Sir Cormier to regain his lost honor anyway he could. Riogh was left to find his place in the world, on his own. For each one's sake, they decided it'd be best if they avoided contact with each other.

Appearance/Biometrics: A gray-haired old lady, her age carries the weight of her age in her human guise, while her body, standing at 5'7" appears at least mostly unaffected, although she has a habit of hunching over to keep up appearances when not fighting or running for her life.

Zunqada's Appearance in Uleuda: She has purple crystals, that shine with prismatic arrays that emit in a soft aura. Her face is very defined, and humanoid. Otherwise unremarkable in her crystalline form.

Personality: A coy and deceptive woman, yet one that isn't shy to a fight. Secretly she's competent with a sword, a secret she manages to hide from most who see her. She wields a cane sword while in her human guise as her preferred method of self-defense. She enjoys a good drink, and makes a small living gambling with sailors, bilking them out of their coin by drinking them under the table.

Backstory: Long-Lost Maternal Grandmother of Genuvah. She didn't approve of her daughter's moving to Rharne nor of the connections she made to the Shadow Quarter there, knowing that there were too many who would try to take advantage of her gift as an Yludih, or hold her nature hostage, threatening to expose her. In the end her worries turned out prophetic. She only knew Genuvah through her daughter's letters from Rharne, but became obsessed with him after losing touch with his mother.

He later found her in a tavern in Almund, muttering to herself, where he was united with his grandmother.

Appearance/Biometrics: Disguise #1: Thinly built biqaj woman. Blonde hair, light blue eyes, stands at about 5'8"

Disguise #2: A raggedy old beggar-man of human extraction, with graying brown hair, and scraggly beard. Heavy-set, and with a bent back. Stands at about 5'4".

Personality: A plucky young Yludih, she has the utmost loyalty toward her kind as a whole, but wouldn't hesitate to expose or send one to justice who made things worse for the community. She can be slightly impatient and quick to speak or act. Nevertheless, she's friendly until given a reason not to be.

Backstory: Risahlih works as a pamphleteer, spreading messages that she deems worthy of spreading, while also making a side job of creating fliers for commercial use. She makes good use of Cryptography and Qa in order to attract the attention of Yludih and facilitate mass communication between enclaves of the crystalline shapeshifters. She grew up not knowing her parents, in an orphanage, never knowing her true nature until it was revealed by Tamar, who took the young woman under her wing.

She taught her everything she knows of Qa, but it didn't take long for Risahlih to exceed even her acumen at the language of their people. She makes it her mission to inform other Yludih of safe houses that are available for their kind, where they may pass their existence without being harassed by the ignorance.

Strength 26 Competent
Combat: Blades 26 Competent

Appearance/Biometrics: Dark skinned and with short cropped hair, Cormier would appear innocuous and unremarkable to most. He does wear his boiled leather armor fairly often, but apart from his knightly gear, he blends in with a crowd well. He stands at 6' tall, with brown eyes, black hair, and of average/muscular build.

Personality: Honorable to a fault, Cormier holds loyalties to one's friends as the highest virtue, even to the detriment of his own career within the Lightning Knights. He's quiet under most circumstances and has an abundance of patience. He enjoys passing down his knowledge of knightly combat and is a fair teacher of those principles.

Backstory: Sir Cormier was a Lightning Knight for the city of Rharne. He came into it after fleeing persecution in Rynmere, hoping to find refuge in Rharne from mage-killing fanatics. He was still young when he arrived in Rharne, and eventually joined the lightning knights, squiring under Genuvah's father. While working with his father, eventually they came to know Cormier's secret, that he was a secret mage. Despite this, Genuvah's father abided by his squire, shielding him from exposure as he helped bring many rogue and criminal mages to heel. He grew into the role of a loyal Lightning Knight well, until the time when he found out by hook or crook about Genuvah's family's true nature. Rather than betray them, however, he helped them bring Genuvah out of the Shadow Quarter's clutches, and brought him to Scalvoris, leaving his parents to an unknown fate.

Sir Cormier has worked as a mercenary since arriving in Scalvoris, and separating from Genuvah after the Yludih came of age. Despite his former affiliations, Cormier has managed to maintain a low profile throughout his occupation.

In-Game History Thus Far: TBD

Relationship to PC: Cormier has been watching Genuvah unknown to the lad. He's been waiting for signs that the young Yludih is mature and ready enough to learn magic. Although he's reluctant at first to put his friend's son at risk, eventually he relents, when Genuvah accepts the risk, and requests initiation from his former mentor.

Thus would begin Genuvah's training.
