Tom was the youngest of two sons born to Valma and Kiff Dandy, the nicest people on the block. Because of his size and heft, his parents coddled him and trained him to be nice. His early formative years were spent being taught to be courteous and conscious of others. As a toddler, Tom would always let his brother Finen have the first pick of everything, and the last piece. He was just happy to be around his brother, who was the epitome of everything Tom wished he could have been.
As he reached schooling age, Tom was inseparable from Finen. Though Finen was a few arcs older, the two boys went everywhere they could with each other. Finen loved to be in the kitchen as much as Tom, so the boys were always found there. Finen had quite the knack for baking sweet treats, and Tom wanted to do his best to complement him. Tom took cooking up as soon as he could figure out how to work the pots over the fire. Together, the boys would cook and bake for their parents, who couldn’t be prouder. Tom did everything he could to learn how to cook new things, and got himself quite a few burns for his troubles.
As he grew older, Tom’s weight became more of an issue to his personal life. Girls avoided him, though they seemed drawn towards the more charismatic Finen. It didn’t bother Tom. He was never really interested in girls, though he wouldn’t have minded making an omelette for one. Instead, he was called “pudgy” and “jolly” by the nicer ones, and “gross and fat” by those not so nice. Tom always took it in stride, instead deciding to further his love affair with food. At sixteen arcs, he and Finen started selling their wares out of their house, Tom serving dinner and Finen dessert. The two continued this way for arcs, building a small cult following among the people of Ne’haer. To Tom, it couldn’t get any better.
So it got worse. One trial, when setting a heavy cake on a table on the balcony of a wealthy aristocrat’s home, Tom lost control of the tray. The cake, and the metal pan it was sitting on, fell from the balcony and crashed down on Finen’s head. He was killed instantly, and that was the only trial that folks said that Tom wasn’t smiling. Finen was buried a few trials later, and Tom vowed never to make another cake so long as he lived. Not when it was the cake that killed his brother. Not when he was so clumsy with it.
So the arcs moved on. Tom’s love of cooking overwhelmed him in Finen’s absence, and he immersed himself in it over time. Now, forty arcs after his birth, Tom is as happy as the clams he steams for dinner. He is still just as jolly and happy, but there is always a tinge of sadness when he talks about Finen, his hero and role model.

Favorite Recipes
Breakfast: Vegetable Omelet
An omelette with onions, spinach, peppers, mushrooms, cheese, with diced and fried potatoes added. Sometimes topped with fresh tomatoes.
Lunch: The Dandy Sandwich
With butter on the bread, the Dandy is grilled with goat's cheese and fruit in it. The fruit, typically apples or berries, becomes soft as the bread crisps, then is served with sweet cream and salted pork on the side.
Dinner: Whiskied pork chop
By mixing whisky and molasses, the chef can create a glaze that he can smear over the top of the pork to give it a smoky and sweet taste. The glaze is allowed to set into the meat, and is served with buttered potatoes and corn. Tom's specialty.
