“All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.”

— Sun Tzu

Aur'Ren
Physical Appearance:

Aur'ren is of average stature standing at a height of 6'0. With blonde hair, and bluish-gray irises, somewhat fair, tanned skin and a well sculpted body. The Tactician has a compact muscular build, and a low percentage of bodyfat. His face is practically blemishless as a result of his youth, and more often than not he is seen wearing lightweight clothing. He maintains a professional, and clean appearance despite his constant brush with with the salty air of the sea. Aur'ren boasts several tattoos, including a nautical star on the right side of his chest and a ship's wheel on his right hand in between the ball of his wrist, and pinky finger. As a result of the Koriel blessing, the Tactician sports a subtle azure “aura” that surrounds the entirety of his body, and if one looked closely enough they would notice it.

(Further, those who are favored will find a separate aura spinning about their feet. This will allow them, at Favored, to take a few steps on water without splashing in.)

Personality:

Aur'ren is a self righteous, intellectual individual who bases his opinion only on fact and what is present. He does not believe there is a good or evil, but only a just and an unjust. There are people on idalos who exist to do the world no good. There are others who exist for the sole purpose of murdering others. There are individuals who have good intentions, and more often than not simply have bad results and poor execution. Aur'ren is a perfectionist, and hates the idea of failure; he would rather die than fail. Although he typically displays a lack of emotion, and makes attempts to mask his feelings, he more often than not fails and loses his composure. The Tactician is incredibly cold, calculative, and patient with his foes. In combat his goal is not to fight an opponent head on, but to subdue them by outwitting them rather than using brute strength. In his past; he was a battle hardened child, and cared only to maintain peace and order. Now, however he believes that often times violence is a necessary means to an end goal. He is the calm, and the storm, the generous, and the greedy, the compassionate, and the merciless. The Tactician is the epitome of retribution, and vexation.

History

Aur'ren grew up in Andaris, one of the largest portions of the great kingdom called by the name of Rynmere. Unbeknownst to the young child of only thirteen arcs, his life would soon become far more complicated. In his youth, the Tactician spent several arcs in study and did nothing but make an attempt to garner the attention of his father. Yet, when he least expected it, destruction came and the young man had been forced to adapt. Murder had been something he was against for the entirety of his life; his mother had raised him to be a nonviolent child. The fist was a powerful tool, and the blade a sharp one, but in the end the pen of the intellectual man defeated even the most fierce of foes. Law, justice, order, honor, courage, and commitment were all a powerful portion of his life. However, all of that changed in a single instant, on an expedition with his father and a group of armed mercenaries. The men, and women traveled alongside Aor'ra, father to Aur'ren. His father was the long standing captain of a ship by the name of “Saddleside”. The crew consisted of men not well versed in seafaring, and there were only five of them. Aur'ren had been along for the ride, and on a mission to bring about a fish export into Viden something intercepted the party.

Harpoons were thrown, and punctured the structural integrity of the ship. Voices and morale raised; the collision of blades, and turbulent waters were only the start of the events. Lightning struck the seas, a storm swept over the two ships as they fought to stay afloat. The Saddleside took several blows to the hull, and began to sink but refused to fall into the depths. The captain of the opposition's ship walked aboard along with several of his fellow men. Scimitars collided, and the lound sound of metal on metal collision echoed about the vicinity. The Tactician had to do something, and obviously he was less physically capable than a man twice his age. He could not fight them directly, but he could obviously do something to rid them of the Saddleside. The young man analysed the situation, and gathered information in the moment. Never did he think that intelligence, and information gathering skills could be used in the heat of combat. Aur'ren stepped forth, and hid behind the ship's wheel only to devise a plan.

He assessed the situation, and looked to his closest companion for assistance. A large six foot Taipan more than willing to defend itself if it were thrown in the direction of his opponents. However, he did not want the snake to suffer a fate beneath the blue deep. He carried a combat knife at all times; for the purpose of gutting fish, and scaling them the moment they left the water. A crate filled with fish rested to his left, and another barrel filled with oil to his right. Aur'ren stood bravely, and used what little strength he had to shove the barrel filled with oil toward the fore end of the ship. When he finally reached the heated battle; he noticed the deep blood spatters that stained the wooden deck. The Tactician threw a kick with all of his might toward the center of the barrel. The force from his heel threw the barrel off equilibrium, and with the tipping of the barrel the oil spattered all over his opponents.

He scrambled desperately to find the flint and steel always kept in his left breast pocket. The adversaries charged forth, and whilst he grasped hold of the flint and steel the captain of the opposed ship ordered a retreat. However, he would not allow such a crime to go unanswered for; justice was to be served in the most righteous way possible. With the flint in his left hand, and the steel in his right the Tactician gave it but a single clap. He watched as a spark descended from the base of his palms toward the oil that lined the deck. In a spontaneous explosion; fire ignited into existence from the reaction of the flammable oil and hot spark. The fire crept forward, and then engulfed all of the pirates that dared step foot upon the Saddleside.

As they were set ablaze, and devoured they were simply given a stiff boot off the starboard side of the ship. The men had been thrown overboard following their burning, and in their weakened state from having already been set ablaze failed to swim. Aur'ren took charge of his fathers own crew, and yelled at the top of his lungs. “Com' on run to the other side! Get on their fucking ship, She's going to sink!”

The Tactician suggested, as the water began to engulf the ship and their window of opportunity began to disappear. The water touched his heels as the deck sank into the depths, and he struggled to climb what was almost a diagonal plank onboard the other ship. With a series of heavy breaths, he finally reached the other side; The Tactician was no strong swimmer. However, when he looked back; all that he saw was that his father survived the transition to the other side. The remainder of the crew members had been plunged into the briny depths of the ocean, and struggled to stay afloat. They could not be saved, or could they also be protected by the young child?

How could Aur'ren save the rest of his crew from certain death in the freezing water just outside Viden? He needed another tactic; one that did not pertain to combat, and thus he devised one on the fly uncertain whether or not it would work. They needed a rope, or a ladder, or something that would allow them access onto the ship without hindering them further. Their bodies would lose strength, and they would lose the ability to tread water for long. The young man charged off into the hull of the ship, and found a large rope; far larger than him. He did not have enough strength to carry all of it on his own though. Aur'ren called out to his father in desperation, and hope that he would move quickly.

“Down here! I need your help! Grab this rope!” The Tactician spoke, and his father rushed over only to grab hold of his son by the torso and yank upward with all of his might. The rope came along with the child, and the young man picked up a portion of it only to feed it over the port side of the new found ship. The rope descended slowly, and the moment that it pierced the veil of the freezing waters surface they climbed aboard. The underestimated, and obviously weaker thirteen arc old boy managed to save the entirety of his crew. The boy came to a stop upon the new ship on the shores of viden, and has been a resident for exactly five arcs. He resided alongside his father on the Riverton from the age of thirteen arcs to sixteen arcs. At which point his father left him to be a man, and carried out his own dreams; Aur'ren has not encountered the man since.

Xavante
Image
Xavante is considered to be Aur'ren's best friend, and closest companion in Idalos. The Taipan has an approximate 6'6 body length and is very girthy indicative of a healthy diet. The snake was chosen as an ideal companion to rid the Tacticians sloop of rodents. Although the snake can be very aggressive; it has mild tendencies toward Aur'ren due to being handled for several arcs. The Snake is often coiled around the circumference of the Tacticians body. More often than not The head of the beast rests atop the shoulder of Aur'ren; as to showcase its protective nature toward him. This Taipan is the reason why strangers should not approach Aur'ren too closely; unless they wish to die.

Sav'ante
Image
Sav'ante is a fully grown “Whip Monitor” with a large build, and much like Xavante tends to the many rodents on board Aur'rens sloop. Unlike Xavante, she does not travel alongside the Tactician and remains on the sloop. The rodents that are more often than not found jumping along the ship whilst it is docked are gobbled up by this 8 ft long 204 pound reptile. Armed with sharp claws and teeth that can be used to tear apart rodents, and other small pests. She is generally extremely friendly toward human interaction; as she was purchased from another exotic pet owner who handled him well. Although she does not possess any form of training, and the term “Poopdeck” can be taken literally with this one. Aur'ren often has to clean up excrement from the deck, and swab it clean every trial to prevent a stench.
