Kitten Bees
Image
Developed by Balthazar Black
Price: A hive of 10, trained Kitten Bees can be purchased for 2 WP. 10 Untrained Kitten Bees can be purchased for 1 WP. On Scalvoris, they are available to anyone at Wealth Tier 5. However, outside Scalvoris they must be imported in and so always cost WP.

Habitat: Kitten Bees can survive in almost any habitat though they have been found in large numbers in the Sweetwine Woods and in most places with dense flora.
Lifespan and Development: Kitten Bees live an entire nine arcs before they die however they grow into their full size within a season of their birth and remain at that size for the rest of their arcs. In their last arc, Kitten Bees begin looking for a mate of equal age to pair up with and reproduce.

Diet: Kitten Bees feed on all types of pollen and therefore require areas with lots of flora for them to enjoy. Some Kitten Bees develop particular tastes for certain flora and actually eat the plant.

Temperament: Untrained Kitten Bees are curious creatures. They want to learn and try things but are frightened by large creatures. Untrained Kitten Bees tend to act more aggressively in swarms than individually. Trained Kitten Bees are fiercely loyal and loving creatures. Trained Kitten Bees help to corral untrained Kitten Bees in swarms.

Abilities: Kitten Bees serve all the function bees normally would but they also make for great gardeners. Trained Kitten Bees knead the soil in gardens when they are hungry which helps to prepare it for planting. Untrained Kitten Bees knead your furniture and their claws can do damage. Overly affectionate Kitten Bees knead their owners and it hurts but it is adorable if you have enough layers on not to feel their claws. Trained Kitten Bees will also "fertilize" your garden for you however if they are untrained they will instead "fertilize" your house... and they have wings so it gets everywhere.

Weaknesses: Some Kitten Bees wreak havoc on gardens with roses and daisies because they like the taste of the petals.

Re: [Scalvoris] Fauna

Crystal Fish
Image
Name: Crystal Fish
Price: N/A for live fish, 1 WP for dead ones
Habitat: Currently only found in the Crystal Lake
Lifespan and Development: They tend to live about an arc. Females will lay eggs up to three times in their lives when they reach adulthood at the age of one cycle. When they do lay eggs, they produce thousands of eggs at a time, which the male(s) fertilizes as she lays them.
Diet: Algae
Temperament: For fish, they are rather clever. Adults will not not take the bait on fishing lures, though the juveniles sometimes will.
Abilities: They glow like crystals in the moonlight. Their scales, tail fins, and eggs are often used by alchemists for a variety of things, including adding luminescence to something.
Weaknesses: They can't seem to survive for long if taken from the lake, even if they are kept in water taken from the lake. So despite their beauty, they are not suitable as pets.
Other: Both the fish and the eggs are edible, but the fish are quite small (the size of a betta fish), so you'd have to eat an awful lot of them for a meal (since they're basically bite sized a meal would likely be 50 or more fish). They also don't taste that good so unless you are starving, it probably isn't worth it. But it won't kill you or make you sick to eat the fish or their eggs.

Knowing It
-- Scalvoris: Competent. They only live in this lake, and can't kept/bred elsewhere. But they're fairly common in the lake, so if you've been to the lake at night you would have seen them. Likewise if you've spoken to someone who has. I'm not sure about otherwise, but it would also probably be in books that describe the lake if such exist.
-- Idalos: Master
Wealth Tier
-- Scalvoris: Tier 7
-- Idalos: NA - they aren't exported since they can only be found in the one lake
Sell/Buy It
-- Scalvoris: Novice to sell it because alchemists would be interested. But getting it to sell would be harder, so I'm not sure what to put here.
Rarity
-- Scalvoris: Very Rare. It only exists in one lake in all of Idalos, and they cannot survive outside of that lake, which means that they can't be transplanted and bred by anyone.

Collecting It
-- Scalvoris: Competent Fishing will work for juveniles, Expert for adults

Re: [Scalvoris] Fauna

Sacristan
Image
Description: The Sacristan is a large hawk that is entirely white, including the skin on its talons. The eyes are a strikingly dark green. The Sacristan owes its name to the fact that it seems to spend almost all its time in and around the ruined temple. The tribesfolk regard the sight of this bird an ill omen, and avoid both it and the temple it haunts.

Most of the time, the Sacristan behaves much like a normal hawk, ignoring humans in the area. Its behavior changes markedly, however, if somebody enters the temple. The bird stalks anyone who visits the ruin, following them around and observing them with a keen focus and intelligence that many find unsettling. The bird does little apart from watch and follow unless a visitor approaches the tumulus at the center of the temple. When this happens, the Sacristan will become more vocal and aggressive, screeching, displaying its wings, and even swooping at the trespasser’s head until he or she withdraws. No one knows what happens if these warnings are ignored; to date, no one has pressed the issue.

Habitat: Currently only found in the Ruined Temple, Scaltoth Jungle
Lifespan and Development: Unknown
Diet: Unknown, believed to hunt fish and small rodents like most hawks.
Abilities: Unknown.
Weaknesses: Unknown.

Weavers Friend
Image
Price: NA
Habitat: Currently found in Weavers' Woods in Sweetwine.
Lifespan and Development: These caterpillars are larger than most (up to 7" long) and as such, they produce larger cocoons, which is what the silk is made out of. They have a lifespan of a little over one arc. They hatch from their eggs in mid Ashan, and remain as caterpillars until early to mid Zi'da when their source of food disappears. They they form cocoons, and the ones that have managed to eat enough to survive their dormant period will emerge as butterflies. Once the transformation is complete, they will live long enough to mate and lay their eggs over the course of two seasons. Then they die, and the next generation will be born the following Ashan.
Diet: leaves
Temperament: Docile.
Abilities: As caterpillars, they produce a type of silk that is highly valued for its durability.
Weaknesses: The leaves they eat can only be found in Weavers' Woods, and they are the favorite prey of several birds that live there.

Re: [Scalvoris] Fauna

Kazan Fowl

Image
Developed by Elisabeth Angelus
Price: Tier 6
Habitat: Found across the island of Faldrass . Kazan Fowl live and travel in 'gobbles' or packs. They dwell across Faldrass, thriving on the tender young plant material of the regrowing forest. Although they spend most of their time on the ground during the trial, they sleep in trees at night, preferring Phoenix Wood. Kazan Fowl cannot see well in the dark. Sleeping in trees provides protection from predators that roam and can see at night. They fly up to roost at dusk, and fly down at dawn to begin their daily rituals.
Lifespan and Development: Females lay 4 to 17 eggs, and will incubate them for a month. The newly hatched Kazans, or 'Zanies' leave the nest within 12 to 24 hours in order to feed. They stay with their mother for a few months after they are born, until they venture out on their own. The lifespan of a Kazan is 3 to 4 years. A full-grown male Kazan will measure up to 4 feet long and may weigh up to 30 pounds.
Diet: Kazans are omnivores, grazing mostly on tender young plant material and insects.
Temperament: Like many birds, Kazans are social creatures. About six months after hatching, the males from the same brood break away and form a sibling group that generally persists for life. Like any other group of siblings, they're fiercely loyal to each other and extremely hostile to outsiders.
Abilities:They are relatively fast and can run at speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. Kazans are also short-distance fliers when they need to scramble, and can reach speeds of up to 55 miles per hour.
Weaknesses: Hunted by large predators

Re: [Scalvoris] Fauna

Bumble Bear
Image
Name: Bumble Bear
Quick Facts: The Bumble Bear is very much like a grizzly bear in size and appearance. But it has three significant differences. The first is that it displays a higher intelligence than other bears, seemingly on par with sentient races. The second is they form a single, massive family that lives around the Golden Cliffs with duties and a basic societal structure. The third is that they are able to levitate as adults.
Height: 5 ft shoulder height
Width: 3 ft shoulder width
Length: 8 ft length
Weight: Females (500-600 lbs) Males (700-900 lbs)
Native to: Sweetwine Woods, Scalvoris
Locations: Sweetwine Woods, Scalvoris ~ usually only in or around The Golden Cliffs (if you want to use them outside that location, please check with a Scalv Mod first!)

Appearance: A massive bear, ranging in hues from blonde to brown to nearly black, is an imposing figure. Large, muscular, with loose fur and flesh, massive claws and teeth.

Habitat: These bears prefer temperate forests, and are only found in and around the Sweetwine Woods, particularly around the Golden Cliffs.

Lifespan and Development: Mothers give birth to 1-4 cubs every couple of years. They mate during, and have a gestation period of 180-250 days based on when they were impregnated. They delay the gestation in order to give birth during hibernation in the seasons. The mothers will raise the cubs for up to two years, being fiercely protective of them, able to fend off larger predators. She does not mate while raising her cubs. The cubs reach mating age after 5 years.

Diet: These bears are omnivorous, eating nearly anything they can find from small game, to roots, berries, mushrooms. But their preferred food is the honey from the hives, and the honey sweetened fish of the Golden Cliffs Lake.

Temperament: The bears are very protective and defensive of their territory, chasing off or killing any infiltrators. When with cubs, the mothers isolate themselves from the males, running them off if they come around. There are few things more aggressive and dangerous as a mother bear. The females will allow other females to spend time with them and their young, and often allow cubs to play with one another.

Abilities: The bears have incredibly tough skin, particularly strong against punctures and pierces, a natural defense against the Grizzly Bees they protect. Their hides also do not hold scent, even when forcibly thrust upon them. It does not neutralize scent, rather no scent can cling to it. This is believed to help make the bears deemed a non-threat to the bees. Upon maturity they are able to levitate a couple feet from the ground. They older they get, the higher they can float. The eldest bears can reach the caves entirely without climbing, and it is rumored some even live in there permanently. As with other bears, they maintain massive biting teeth, huge swiping claws, incredible strength, and surprising sprinting speeds. They also have the ability to organize themselves into a loose society with roles such as defensive patrols, food gathering, child rearing.

Re: [Scalvoris] Fauna

Grizzly Bee
Image
Name: Grizzly Bee
Quick Facts: The Grizzly Bee is much like any other bee with two major differences. The first is that if not killed by disease or injury, they will live indefinitely. The second, because of their aging, is that they can grow much, much larger than normal bees. They live in a single, massive hive in Sweetwine Woods, and the closer one gets to the hive, the more aggressive they become.
Height: Outside of Sweetwine: .5 inch. Inside Sweetwine: 1-3in. Around the lake: 4-5in. And within the hives: 9-12in.
Width: Outside of Sweetwine: .5 inch. Inside Sweetwine: 1-3in. Around the lake: 4-5in. And within the hives: 9-12in.
Length: Outside of Sweetwine: 1-2 inches in length. Inside Sweetwine: 6 inches in 9 inches in length. Around the lake: 2 feet in length. And within the hives: 5-6 feet in length.
Weight: A few ounces to a few pounds
Native to: Sweetwine Woods, Scalvoris
Locations: Sweetwine Woods, Scalvoris. Usually in or around The Golden Cliffs (if you want to use them outside that location, please check with a Scalv Mod first!)

Appearance: A standard, fuzzy bee, often fat in appearance. They range in size based on distance they are found from the hive, with the smallest being furthest out, and largest being close to home. They are yellow and black, with loose stripes and translucent wings.

Habitat: Temperate and tropical climates, though this particular type of bee is only found naturally on Scalvoris. But it is theorized that if a queen were transplanted elsewhere, a new hive could be formed in a climate with enough flowering plants.

Lifespan and Development: Queens mate with drones and produce eggs on a nearly constant basis. However, a queen will not reproduce with a drone from her own brood, but rather from a different queen's brood within the hive. Despite queens being massive due to their longevity and safe lifespan, they always produce the same sized eggs, tiny, of a standard bee. The older queens simply produce more of them than younger ones. Depending on the type of bee within the egg, hatching can take from 3-5 days. Larva stage is typically 6-8 days. Pupa stage is typically an additional 6-8 days after which they are mature. New queens are fertile by day 25 or so, with drones taking an additional 10-15 days.

Diet: Pollen, from all flowering sources on Scalvoris. They are responsible for 99% of the islands pollination.

Temperament: The bees are incredibly protective of their hive and will attack any intruders, with the exception of Bumble Bears. Away from the hive they are fairly docile unless provoked.

Abilities: Indefinite lifespan unless injured or diseased. This also allows for them to reach incredible sizes as they age.

Re: [Scalvoris] Fauna

Guardians of Worm Island
Image
Price: NA
Habitat: Worm Island only.
Lifespan and Development: Unknown
Diet: Leaves, grasses, and flowers
Temperament: The Guardians are quite intelligent. They are non aggressive, but they will not permit violence in their island.
Abilities: They are living creatures rather than spirits, but their appearance often makes people think otherwise. They have a telepathic ability that allows them to communicate with each other, influence the minds of animals, read the intent of the people who come to the island, and cause unwanted people to see things that aren't there (the mists that protect the island among other things). They can also "blast" someone telepathically. To the one affected, it "sounds" like someone is screaming at the top of their lungs inside their heads, and it is capable of stunning someone for several bits, leaving them with a severe headache that lingers for a few trials afterwards. In addition to manipulating what people see (or think they see) by influencing their minds, they are able to affect memories, causing people to forget that they have seen one of the Guardians, been to Sanctuary, the existence of Sanctuary itself, etc. Predators on the island leave them alone.
Weaknesses: They cannot survive off of Worm Island for more than a few trials at most. Nutrients found in the water and certain plants that only grow on that island are vital to them; they will starve without them. And if taken from the island by force, their telepathic connection to the rest of their kind is broken, and the isolation will cause them to pine themselves to death. Also, they can be killed like the deer they appear to be if an attacker can outwit them and get past their telepathic defenses. Should one be killed, its body disintegrates into liquid that is absorbed into the ground in a matter of trills.

Re: [Scalvoris] Fauna

Songweavers
Image
Price: NA
Habitat: Scalvoris, Worm Island almost exclusively, though a few have been sighted in Sweetwine.
Lifespan and Development: They have a lifespan of up to five arcs. From hatching, it takes them a full arc to reach adulthood, during which time, they stay with their parents. Females can produce 3-5 eggs per clutch, and will lay one in mid Ashan if they have taken a mate that season.
Diet: Nectar
Temperament: Songweavers mate for life unless one of a mated pair dies, in which case the survivor may take another mate the following Ashan.
Abilities: They are very efficient pollinators. They have beautiful calls.
Weaknesses: They are delicate birds that can die of shock or fright very easily. They are rarely seen outside of Worm Island because of this although, since the freeing of the Induk Sweetwine, there have been a few sightings.
