Sarraski

Sarraski is the small coastal town affiliated with Augiery, capital city for the Naerikk. Founded in 447, Sarraski became a safe haven for those that wished to come south to trade and interact with the Naerikk. It is surrounding on all sides by the ocean. This tapers off and wanders further into the cavern via the Oceanic River. The importance of the location and the waterways that surround it relate to the economy of the area. Traders and naval ships drop anchor in Darklight Bay, the area just outside the cavern. Small boats and rafts go out to the ships to bring back goods, slaves, and sailors. These small boats and rafts will continue down the Oceanic River to Augiery, suppling it with foreign goods and slaves.

Once a person sets foot in Sarraski, they will find that the town has a pirate feel to it. The most notable feature of the city includes the various wooden buildings and walkways built on the column. Unlike Augiery, which does not have easy access to wood, Sarraski residents have found that decommissioned boats provide excellent materials for homesteading. One such boat was brought up onto the column completely intact. The red sails of the Pelagian are the first sign of life that one might view from the open ocean. This boat, a historical site to the Naer, was left intact when it was pulled from the fleet due to the significance it played in Augiery's history. It has since become a central location, a young woman buying it and building a bar on the inside.

Sarraski is home to the Augierian fleet and the Vice Queen Runash has a private residence within Sarraski where she will host meetings with the other fleet captains. Since it is a place that is highly dependent on maritime activity, the city caters to sailors. There is plenty of booze and entertainment to fill a sailor's leave from their designated ship. To further relieve sailors of work once they get onto "mainland", there are supportive slaves throughout the city to guide them. These slaves are there for the sailors entertainment as well as to offload the rafts laden with goods at the docks so the sailors can go directly to the inns, the bars, and then the bunks. Naerikk and other races will provide additional entertainment and goods while earning a pretty penny.

The Pelagian
Formerly the first ship to dock in Darklight Bay and the Sarraski cove, the Pelagian was decommissioned several arcs after Sarraski was built. The Pelagian is a much smaller ship than most of the modern naval vessels. It had been large for its time, but it was decommissioned and laid to rest in Sarraski after having served its indentured time with the Augierian Navy. With great care, it was maneuvered into the cavern and hoisted from the waters where it was secured against the column and joined directly to Sarraski. Giant pole and wooden stands hold the boat up. It might look precarious, but the ship is very secure against the column. Given its historical relevance, the Pelagian is highly revered and its loss would be devastating to historians.

Although the external traits of the Pelagian are original, it has been gutted and repurposed for the sailors that now call it a bar. Since its opening in the late 400s, the Pelagian has been a place for sailors to drink, eat, and be merry with the occasional fist fights. Over time, the walls have been decorated with various trophies brought by the slaves and sailors while the beverages have changed with the preference of the patrons.

The current owner, Kaerra, has brought her own spin to the Pelagian. A small statue of Audrae can be found within the bar. Kaerra brought this idol into the bar in hopes to keep people honest and behaved. If a person breaks the statue, that person is considered a blasphemer and enemy of Audrae. It gives the bar patrons a reason to brutally beat or murder the unsuspecting ingrate to the Immortal. This is not a common occurrence, but Kaerra finds it entertaining none-the-less.

Kaerra

Image
Name: Kaerra
Race: Naerikk
Birthdate: Cylus 2nd, 670
Occupation: Pelagian Owner; Bartender

History: Kaerra became interested in the Pelagian when she was a young Naer sitting in history classes. It had been her life's goal to own the historical site turned pub. This dream became a reality for Kaerra when she bought it in Ymiden 712. There was little that she wanted to change about the site and permitted the same transactions to continue. Since coming to own the Pelagian, she has added an idol of Audrae and gambling nights to provide entertainment as well as pay her dues to Aurelia. She has personal interests in the Vice Queens Lomela and Aurelia. Kaerra considers her alignment two these vices as necessity given her business. Above all, she is a devote Naer to Audrae, Shadow Mother and Queen of Augiery.

It is rare, but Kaerra has been known to put tourists, sailors, Naer, and slaves alike to death for destroying her custom made idol of Audrae. She may not personally do this, but fights been been rumored to break out at her commands to murder the perpetrator in her place of business.
