A true thief at heart, Tio was always on the lookout for a good opportunity to quickly make some money. Considering that his decision to move to Almund might well have been one of the best moves he’d ever made, because anyone who looked for it could easily find some kind of dodgy dealing going on it the city of shipwrecks and could, if they were good enough, get in on that work. Said work was almost always illegal of course, and more than a little dangerous, but the payoff was often worth it.
When Tio had stayed up last night to have a drink and a chat with the daughter of the owner of the inn he was staying at, Ceressa Reyes, he hadn’t been looking for work. All he’d wanted to do was get to know the innkeeper a bit so that if trouble ever found its way to his door he might have a friend to cover for him when he needed it. However when the topic of what Tio did for a living came up and he’d hinted that he involved himself in less-than-legal work he’d been pleasantly surprised when the young woman had shared with him the details of a job opportunity as thanks for the drink. Unsurprisingly even though the 20 Pirate Lords were gone there was still a notably strong presence of pirates in the city, and a group of them were banding together under a young new captain to raid an iron merchant ship, called the Jane Dane, from Rynmere passing by Scalvoris on the way to Nekhet.
And as it so happened this band was recruiting more crewmembers for the raid in the Scalvoris Sapphire Inn, the very same inn he was staying at! After a quick introduction from Ceressa, Tio had got talking with the quartermaster of the fledging crew, and had secured a place for himself on the crew. Which was why he now found himself heading down to the beach late at night, where the crew was meeting before they boarded, after purchasing a simple short-sword from little Korlasir to use in the raid.
“You Silver?” A bald man with a large scar across his forehead asked them, eyeing Tio’s skinny frame doubtfully.
“Aye, that’s me. I’m not late am I?” Tio replied.
The bald man grunted. “Nah, but you are the last to arrive.” He turned away and started walking towards a rowboat beached a few feet from the ocean, raising his voice so that everyone could hear. “OK LADS EVERYONE’S HERE, GET IN THE BOAT AND LET’S GET GOING! HOPE YOU NEWBIES SAID GOODBYE TO YOUR LOVED ONES, ‘COS CHANCES ARE THEY WON’T BE SEEING YOU AGAIN!”
The crewmembers started heading towards the rowboat, muttering quietly to themselves in their own small groups. Tio followed at the rear of the group, and as he looked around at the crew of scarred, thuggish looking people of all different races armed to the teeth with various weapons he had to wonder if doing this was really a good idea after all.
No, it would be fine. How bad could a spot of piracy be after all?
