Enrick comes to check in on Nalin and his sister.

Almund is a thriving township with a dark side. With houses made from the wooden bodies of decommissioned ships, there are many opportunities here, coupled with many dangers.

Things that Don't Exist

11th of Suan of the 710th Arc
It had been a couple trials since Nalin had wore himself out looking for his sister. He was still quite thankful for Enrick's help, and still felt that he hadn't thanked the man enough. Though, the problem was, he didn't know where to find the man. And he was tired from his serving job. Not being able to speak fluid sentences really made life difficult for him. He was lucky that he had had that day off when Lavender had decided that she wanted to worry him so much.

As soon as he'd gone upstairs with Lavender and put her in bed, he'd crashed as well, overworked from the heat and the effort of carrying her. But her weight wasn't foreign to him. So he'd just passed out and slept for a good few breaks.

Right now he had just gotten home from his shift at The Buckle and Chain. He was beat, but he called out anyways, "Lavender! Hooome!" To make sure that she knew that it was him that was walking in. Taking off his shoes and putting them by the shelf near the door he stretched out a bit. It was the only job that he could get at his age when he thought about it. Especially since he wasn't really schooled.

That was something that he hoped to remedy at some point, but he wasn't really making enough money to do so. On top of that, all of the places that his sister tried applying for refused her because she couldn't speak. On top of that she was too young in many of their eyes.

He threw sighed and sank into the chair at the table in the dining area. Jumping a bit when he felt small hands starting to massage his shoulders. He smiled softly, turning his head to see the smiling face of his sister. She'd been very good since that trial. Though he had given her a stern signing-to. She should have known better.

He hated keeping her cooped up inside, but there was nothing for it. He had to keep her safe. She knew this too. At least, he thought she did. Her hands slid down to his chest and she leaned down.

"Lav..." but she put a finger to his lips and shook her head, before leaning in and kissing him softly on the lips. There was this innocence to the action as she pulled away, blushing a bit and looked a bit guilty. Nalin just laughed and shook his head back at her before pulling her into his lap and kissing her softly back before pulling away slowly. "Beautiful Flower. Mine eternal." He smiled softly and she smiled back as they touched their foreheads together. She was about to move to sign against his chest, but then a knock came at the door.

She gave him a bit of a pout be he shook his head and stood her up again before standing up himself. Kissing her forehead. "Wait here." He whispered and she nodded.

Walking to the door, he opened the door and blinked a bit. "Enrick? Why here? Oh! Come In Come In! Please. Hot out!" He smiled broadly and moved a bit to the side so that he could come in. "Lav! It's man who helped other day!" The girl shyly peaked around the corner and made a few hand symbols. Nalin frowned at her. "Don't be rude. Enrick guest." She seemed to huff and stopped across the hall and up the stairs, opening a few doors and slamming them.

Nalin winced and gave a tired smile to Enrick. "Apologies. Sister can be fussy sometimes. No mean anything by it. Just no like new people. Not comfortable yet with Enrick." He chuckled. "What brings Enrick to-trial?!"

The other Trial he found himself on a quick search and rescue of a little mute girl, all because his mates didn't like the unusual event of the lonesome brother prior. Yet Enrick had taken it upon himself to help the poor man out and look for this girl, at first just for the sake of putting to rest the scene this man would cause. However Enrick didn't suspect himself to be so easily welcomed after his aid, and while the hospitality was certainly generous... it also might've put Enrick on the edge of uncertainty mostly.

Maybe it had been due to the fact he was a loner mostly, unused to the accommodations that were suited among friends. He had peers to be sure and there was no denying that, however the aspect of friendship was a usual concept he found himself well indulged with. Still he hadn't seen Nalin for a couple of trials after the girl had been found, and while the hospitality of a free meal had been reward enough... he still felt a little bit of an inclination to make sure the girl felt alright. Heatstroke was a common occurrence in seasons like Saun but the problem was, making sure no prolonged effects remained once one finally found the shade to cool off within.

While it proved reasonable to think her health fine he considered it reason enough to stop by and make sure, and thus he arrived with a few hard knocks on the door to Nalin's private abode. He had to admit the two had a quaint little place to call home, albeit different from the commodities Enrick found himself more interested in. People liked to live on land well enough; though Enrick found himself willingly able to live on both land and sea. As he stood on Nalin's doorstep he wiped his brow with a forearm, the sweat already stung his hazel colored eyes as he watched the door open. Nalin then greeted him. At first Enrick tried to answer with his reason for randomly dropping by, but found his words were cut off by the invitation to enter already. All because of the heat.

He couldn't help but smile as he agreed with the word "Aight ten," as he entered the premises, the fisherman couldn't help but silently sigh in relief once inside. Shade. How good it felt to be out of that relentless array of sunlight, particularly when one stood too far away from the sea. "Tank's mate." He murmured with his hands folded together for a Bit, while Nalin mentioned it was Enrick who had arrived. Clearly the girl Lavender didn't seem too invested in his presence, as she certainly didn't demonstrate the same thankful demeanor her older brother so openly displayed. "Yeesh." He muttered with a few flecks of yellow in his eyes, he'd certainly had better introductions compared to the door slam they heard after Lavender stormed off.

"No worries mate," He mused as the yellow faded away to the normal hazel coloration from before, "she's lookin' better tan te other trial fer sure." Enrick pointed out with his arms lined with his torso, while his hands were tucked deeply into his pockets. "Oi just wanted t' see if she were doin' aight mate. Heatstroke ain't no joke if someone gets a serious case o' it, from the looks o' it t'ough she's farin' pretty well." He admitted with a wry little grin as he looked from where she stood, down to Nalin with a nod to follow before he checked with him. "What 'bout y'? Ting's goin' well after te other trial?"

It was nice to know that his home was comfortable. His bright blue eyes looked over Enrick. He smiled, he was grateful that he'd helped. Looking to the stairs and smiled meekly. "Yeah.. Sis... She? She is... wildfire. Little heat no put ... her? Down." He looked to Enrick, hoping that he was using the words right, he'd been trying to add more words to his vocabulary, and he figured that calling his sister, sister or by name all the time was annoying.

He smiled softly at Enrick and shook his head. "Fine. Exhausted when got all was done. Slept long time. Almost late for work." He laughed a bit, rubbing the back of his own head.

He started walking in further looking to Enrick. "Come, sit! Lavender won't pout long. Hopefully." He chuckled and walked into the dining area and sat down in the chair in front of the window, so that Enrick had the chair closer to the door.

"Speaking work.. Just got home." He rubbed his shoulders. "Need to find more.. work." He cracked his neck. "Though.. Lavender.. She would ... lonely." He sighed. "No one hire her." A flash of anger crept onto his face before the soft smile was back on his lips.

"Trying... better common. Not easy. You? What Enrick upto?" He tilted his head at the man, wondering if he was understood or if he spoke too much. He didn't want to bombard Enrick with questions though. Nalin thought of Enrick as friends though he didn't know what Enrick thought of him. Though maybe he felt the same, as he did come to check up on him and his sister. At least, that was a good sign of a start of a friendship yes? Maybe not, but he, like always, liked to hope to Xiur that things worked out in his favor. Even for something as small as starting a friendship.

At Nalin's remark of his sister being like wildfire Enrick chuckled with a briefly held grin, it was good to see that Nalin's spirits weren't so down after the other trial actually. "Well that's reassurin' mate." He commented with his arms crossed save for a hand brought to his chin, with a couple fingers left to tap on the whiskers of his chin while he stood there for a Bit. "Aye, work ain't nothin' ye wanna miss. T'ough half te time me Trials spent fishin' get a lil' rough." The fisherman admitted with a shrug after Nalin mentioned he almost woke up late for work.

At the invite to sit Enrick nodded and followed along with him, and eased himself into chair in the dining area with silvery eyes. This made twice now he had been inside Nalin's house? No wonder he still felt so foreign in here, more often than not Enrick hardly went to other's homes. That combined with the idea that his own home drifted on the waves, made it feel a little awkward when he didn't feel such motions while he sat down. Maybe he was too biased or too fond of the sea, even so he didn't let that discredit the fact he had to respect another's private abode. It seemed like Enrick wasn't the only one who recently finished his daily routine, as Nalin also admitted he too just got home from work a while ago.

"Funny how t'at works roi?" He mused before the man decided to remark on needing more work, although the alternative cost would be leaving Lavender alone. The poor girl. She had a fundamental disability that hindered her capacity to fit in, and therefore work didn't seem all too easy for someone like her to find. The dilemma hinted sympathy from Enrick as deep blue lines were drawn in his irises, admittedly he truly felt for the girl and her situation in life. Being mute couldn't have been an easy lifestyle, certainly not a choice one willingly faced every day. Evidently Nalin wasn't very happy with the situation either, since it practically put a strain on his life as well Enrick could understand why.

"Common's never easy mate." He remarked with a brief chuckle as the silvery hues overwhelmed the subtle traces of blue, his eyes fixated on Nalin as he furrowed his brows slightly towards the question. What had he been up to? "Heh, same as usual mate." He responded with his fingers drummed along the table. "Woke up, had breakfast, and t'en went out fishin' afterwards. Oi spend a good majority o' me day fishin' really." It then dawned on him that... Lavender needn't have a job that required much social graces, in fact quite a few jobs out there were ones she could work alone if trained right. Yet did Lavender really want to though?... That was the real question to be had.

"Finished up not long before Oi decided t' swing by. Figured Oi'd check in and see how y' two were..." The taps of his finger slowed as he narrowed his vision, the outer reaches of his mind felt groggy-like as his consciousness suddenly seemed less present. "Were..." His eyes were in a squint as he leaned forward some, unaware of the fact he was about to have yet again another episode out of the blue. He shook his head but that didn't help, and at that point it was too late to prevent the outcome. Enrick's head fell forward as he leaned into the table, his body limp as his mind leaped somewhere else entirely. He could feel his entire body wet even though he was nowhere near water, and had been dry long before he arrived at Nalin's home.

He was... underwater and from the feeling of it swimming at a fast pace, faster than he was actually capable of quite honestly. The water looked clear save for the undergrowth that rested at the bottom, a thickness of weed and algae as well as some branches from fallen trees. He heard a voice muffled underneath the water and when he tried, he found himself unable to focus on where it's source came from entirely. He was also unable to control where he swam as well, only to find that whatever dream this was led him to rise to the surface of the water above him. When he broke surface and found the bright intense light of the suns awaiting him, Enrick could barely make out any more of the surrounding area as he once more regained consciousness. The dream ended.

Enrick's faculties were his own once more and at first he scrunched his face, his eyebrows furrowed greatly as he slowly opened his eyes once more. They were their ordinary hazel color as he recollected thoughts on what just happened, and before he knew it he shot up with their hues a vivid bright yellow. "Te fek? Did Oi just pass out?" He inquired retrospectively with a puzzled expression. "How long was Oi out?"

Things that Don't Exist

11th of Suan of the 710th Arc
In the small time that he'd known Enrick, Nalin knew that he wasn't a bad guy. It made him smile, just thinking about how worried Enrick was about him and Lavender. Nalin knew thought that Enrick wasn't really that much of a touchy feely guy, so he was going to sit there and just smile at Enrick. He didn't want to make him uncomfortable.

"Learning language.. never easy." He smiled in response to Enricks remark. He was about to respond to Enrick's next words but then, quickly, Nalin stood up and walked around the table to make sure that his friend didn't fall over. What was wrong? Was he sick? He put a hand on the mans forehead but felt nothing.

He frowned. What was wrong? Was it an illness or something else? Nervous and unsure, he stood there waiting, he didn't want to do anything that could cause harm, but he didn't know if it was an illness or not. If he lay there for to long he'd get help.

Thank goodness that wasn't the case. About 2 bits passed and Enrick started stirring. Relief filled his eyes as he looked over Enrick. "A..bit? Two? Not sure. What happen? Not well? Or...?" Nalin seemed just as confused at Enrick did. He frowned. "Need anything?" He stood there a moment before sitting down, if Enrick wanted anything he could get up again.

"Hope.. Enrick not sick. Being sick no fun." He smiled brightly at the man. He wanted to make the man smile. Hoping was about all that he could do. Nalin looked behind Enrick and smiled brighter now.

"Look who here." He waved the girl over, she rushed past Enrick and straight to Nalin. Climbing into his lap and hugging his neck. She looked quite possessive over her brother. Her hands started moving, as she looked to Enrick and Nalin chuckled. "She said 'Nice to meet you.' See." He looked to his sister and nuzzled her forehead. "Not hard. Enrick nice!" He looked back to Enrick with worry on his face.

In the brief instance where he had blacked out everything seemed perfectly normal, he was completely aware of the topic at hand and functional. So what happened? Usually it was when he slept at night he found himself living these unusual vivid dreams, but this time he did more than just dream up this random place. He felt like he was there, that he lived the experience first hand. So what was it exactly? What did it mean?

Enrick had been out for almost two Bits worth according to Nalin, a substantially brief amount of time in comparison to actual sleep. Still the dream proved far more engaging to him, enough that he still felt the heavy air in his lungs linger even now. Was he holding that air in? Currently his lungs still acted normal, aside from the lingering impression left behind from his sudden black out. "Um. Water if ye got any?" He requested at the moment of Nalin's offer, something to drink definitely felt necessary after he seem to come around. Seven hells though! That dream couldn't have been any more realistic to him, almost as if he were actually there swimming within whatever body of water that was. Nalin seemed to express the concern of being sick, a notion that while lighthearted did warrant a mere short chuckle from Enrick.

"Nah it's nothin' like tat." He remarked as the cup of water soon rested in front of him, Enrick then looked over his shoulder as he took a sip from the cup. Nalin had pointed out that Lavender had come out of hiding to meet them, already urgently at the older sibling's side with eyes on Enrick. He smiled to her gently and watched her makes signs, curious to find out what exactly she was saying to him now. This had practically been the first time she addressed him, so it ought to have been something simple or standard to any other greeting. Sure enough Nalin confirmed that Lavender gestured it was nice to meet him, and Enrick couldn't help but react with a genuine grin towards the young girl. "Nice t' meet y' too." He said with a few poorly made gestures, he tried to mimic what he could remember from her but obviously wasn't any good.

"Dunno 'bout bein' nice honestly, just fair in my opinion." He remarked to Nalin with a wink as he looked back down to the cup, the yellow hues of his eyes still remained but traces of green began to show through. Enrick knew that look well enough to determine the concern Nalin had, and while he appreciated it a great deal he felt it best to deter it quickly. Being one who didn't like that sort of worry or attention, Enrick naturally shrugged with a wry grin. "Oi'm fine Nalin, practically better now that it's over. Could've very well been a minor hot flash, Oi've been out in the suns fer a while 'fter all." The reasoning was meant to deflect from the truth honestly, since Enrick himself knew little about these dreams other than they sometimes reoccurred. "How's Lavender t'ough?" He checked with eyes on her next. "Got plenty o' sunlight an' yer still kickin' from the looks o' it."

The smile on Nalin's face slowly returned the more that Enrick seemed to speak and try and converse with his sister. He had to hold back a huge laugh with a weird huff like scoff like noise when he tried to mimic the signs that his sister had made. But the smile on his face just grew larger and larger.

Lavender frowned at the man and got closer to her brother as she looked him over. Nalin just pet her head a bit. He really seemed over protective of this girl, but it was cute in it's own way.

"If you say okay then I believe." He smiled and chuckled. "Take time, rest here." He looked to Lav and smiled as she hesitantly started moving her hands again. He patted her head with a soft smile.

"She say, she fine, no to worry. Tough girl. And also that Enrick signing is horrid." He laughed now, "Now now Lavender, Enrick new to Common Sign. If likes we can teach! Have new friend to.." She elbowed him in the gut and huffed. He frowned. "Friend. Lavender.. need them." He frowned a bit, a worried look in her eye as she signed again to him. "Lavender.." He put a hand on her cheek and frowned, shaking his head. "No... Not true. Soon.. Lavender will see." He smiled. She started to move her hands again, her face upset, but he just put his hands over hers. "Later Lavender. We're being rude."

Looking to Enrick he smiled. "I'm sorry, incredibly rude of us. Hows work? Fish biting?"

Enrick couldn't really help notice how attentive and affectionate Nalin was towards his sister, and given it was adorable to a fault the impression also felt a bit strange. Maybe because Enrick never really had any siblings or anybody in general he felt like that towards, thus showing that much affection came off a little awkward to him. Evidently Nalin cared heavily for his sister and if Enrick didn't know of their lineage, he could've easily considered the two something like star crossed lovers.

As enlightening as it was however he still had to diffuse the suspecting idea that he wasn't okay, since he did have that little episode occur right before Nalin. Thankfully the man seemed convinced enough that Enrick was in fact alright, as normal and functioning as he would ever be really. "Aye bit o' restin' up won't hurt." Like he'd turn that notion down any day! Checking in with Lavender seemed intriguing enough for Enrick, she definitely seemed the type to brush off any concern also. The tough girl act. Enrick easily recognized that because he too projected the residual strong and quiet type, although his nature probably played more part in that compared to other factors involved.

Still Enrick made a wry smile as he heard Nalin translate that he was horrible at gesturing Common, a statement that was plainly out in the open the moment Enrick attempted to sign anyhow. The fisherman could only laugh a little alongside Nalin, a polite shrug made as he watched her elbow Nalin afterwards. Evidently she liked it better with just the two of them, least when it came to the idea of communication anyways. They continued to argue for a coupe of Bits and Enrick just sat there, one eyebrow elevated a little higher than the other as he watched with silver eyes.

"Nah, yer good mate." He interjected shortly when Nalin apologized. "Ain't no big deal really." Then came the question of work, a subject that seemed fairly plain and ordinary honestly. Nothing hardly changed when it came to work, save for the seasons and their own challenges which they brought. "Yeah, in a sense." He mused with a soft and brief chuckle. "Spent te trial haulin' in nets and traps t'day, buddy o' mine had a good haul o' lobster. Made a few good nel off tat fer sure." He explained with the silver in his eyes dulled to the hazel quality they usually possessed. "Tomorrow Oi gotta help 'im put out more nets, so there'll be a lotta heavy liftin' involved o' course."

Again he thought about it and wanted to say it, but wasn't sure if it would be a good idea. "Ya know..." He paused for a moment and then sighed, clearly unsure if the idea would be approved or not. "Y' said earlier nobody wants t' help Lavender, tat she can't really get a job anywhere? Granted nobody Oi work wit' knows gestured Common, she could try t' work wit' me an' some o' te guys at te docks? Only if she wants t' t'ough, it'd be a means o' helpin' her out sure; but the decision is ultimately up t' 'er."

Nalin listened to the man with a smile. It seemed like he really enjoyed the hard work that came with fishing. It also sounded like he had a good amount of friends as well. Enough that he actually helped someone with their haul. It also sounded like it was a good season for fishing right now. That was good. He was glad that Enrick was doing well for himself.

He still felt a bit guilty that he and Lavender had been having a private conversation in front of him that he couldn't understand. But the man seemed to not care, and since Nalin had made sure that Lavender hadn't come off as rude, it seemed he took her comment on not being able to gesture very well.

His smile slowly faded when Enrick brought up the next topic. Lavender working on the docks. He looked at her to see what her reaction was. She seemed to think about it for a bit. She'd really like that type of work? Well she was pretty good at butchering animals. Maybe she could learn to better fillet a fish? Or maybe she was thinking about getting paid with fish so that they had less expenses?

She eventually just smiled and shook her head no. Part of Nalin seemed relieved. The sea, though it was part of their family heritage, was also something that brought bad memories, to both of them. He watched as Lavender started walking upstairs. This time, no slamming of doors.

"Apologies, both have... slight dislike of waters of sea. Might be okay if not ship? Good butchering, and loves herbs." He smiled. "But sea not for her. Not for me either. But.. thanks again. Offer really nice."

It seemed that the two were willing to hear him out well enough in regards to the offer, however not one of them seemed enthused about the ideal either. Not that it troubled Enrick by any means as it was just a suggestion, a means of providing a chance for something that could work in their favor. Yet it seemed neither one of them was sea worthy as he gave them credit for, since they both displayed a lack of interest in water period.

The fisherman shrugged as he shot a trying grin at them both, his eyes still relaxed as they remained the same hazel color. "No worries mate, Oi can understand. Te ocean ain't fer everyone even on shore, just t'ought Oi'd throw a line an' see if it'd interest either o' ya." The explanation was complimented with a warm smile shared between them, as he then proceeded to finish the water Nalin poured for him earlier. When he did that he gently placed the cup back on the table, another look directed at Nalin with a hint of green in his eyes.

"Thanks fer te water by te way, really kind o' ya t' do t'at fer me." He humbly spoke with a glance past Nalin out the window, unsure of how much time had passed due to the daylight outside. Saun was always tricky when it came to determining what the time of Trial was, and Enrick felt pretty sure he'd stayed his welcome long enough as is. "Well," He sighed with a rise to his feet as the chair scooted back, "it's definitely time fer me t' get back t' me boat. Oi know ye both aren't crazy 'bout water or sailin' but anytime ye need t' come find me, just look for a sloop named The Windrunner out by te docks. Oi'm usually anchored later in de trial but sometimes Oi'm t'ere mid-trial also, it's a pretty lil' ship actually; gentle on te waves usually."

On that note Enrick rested hands at his hips with plain hazel eyes down at Nalin, a hand extended to shake with the man as he still held a friendly smile. "Take care Nalin an' don't be a stranger. And Lav," He looked to her next as the two shook hands, "look after yer brother fer me." With that tease he clicked his cheek with a wink to Nalin, a pat on the man's shoulder to follow as he proceeded to head out through the main room. As they finished their farewells and he left through the front door, Enrick couldn't help but chuckle as he moved along to head home.
