Hello players! First and foremost, thank you all so much for your patience with the recent style change! I'm quite pleased with it as it seems to be a good mix of what we had originally and the darker style. Thankfully, this will be the last time we update the style, unless to make minor tweaks and changes with links and what not. Since this is the case, I will be hosting an event for all players and staff members, new and vetern, to leave their mark on the site permanently. I bet you already know how you can do that!

The World of Idalos box on the homepage needs welcoming information for guests accessing the site for the first time. That's where you all come in. This contest not only tests your creative writing skills, it also shows how much you know about the world your character experiences. If you feel like taking a stab at it, enter the contest! There are prizes, of course!

This event will run all the way until October 6th. All submissions will be collected on October 7th and posted for voting purposes. Voting will then take place from October 7th to October 20th. Rewards will then be given to winners and all participants.

Standing Trials is a fantasy role-playing site which takes place on a world known as Idalos about several races attempting to simultaneously coexist with one another, and deal with the seemingly endless war between rivaling factions of Immortals; god-like divine beings created after the original creators of the world were shattered in an unknown cataclysm. The Immortals are incapable of harming one another, and therefore use mortals in their perpetual conflicts, some seeking to finally annihilate mortals entirely, others attempting to protect the rights and freedoms of the mortal races, and others simply trying to achieve their own agendas. The World of Idalos is one filled with rich history and lore, and your choices may very well shape the future. Will you zealously stand with the divine Immortals, following after them and heeding their every word, or will you decide that they are tyrants to be scorned. Will you be a hero, attempting to help others, or will you be a villain, crushing them underfoot for your own nefarious schemes. Will you be the craftsman responsible for forging fascinating crafts, or will you be a spy skulking in the shadows. Will you decide to leave power to the Immortals, or will you master a discipline of magic and become the master of your own destiny. All of these and many more are choices that you will make as you write your own story here, and by doing so, affect the greater story of Idalos itself.

Only you decide whether someone will tell your story, whether you are seen in the eyes of gods and men as guilty, or as innocent, paragon or pariah.

All who spend time in Idalos will attest, albeit in different words, your character's time in Idalos cannot be qualified easily. There are a few reasons for this the most prominent being it is your time, it is what you make it. Your time here becomes who your character is, what you do and most importantly who you spend your time with.

Who do you want to be? Perhaps a seafaring Biqaj, A pacifistic Qi'Ora or a cute little Tunawa. The point is you can be any of those things, but more importantly you can be your best self or if you are a little bit devious you can be your worst self. Playing a game where you can be anything or anyone is an exercise as old as imagination, and there is a reason for that... It is fun!

What do you want to do? There is more to a character than just their personality and physicality. They need to be able to do amazing things, perhaps they are initiated into the magic of Rupturing and can therefore teleport or maybe they're a poor tavern brawler who fights people to earn their next meal.

Who do you spend your time with? There is an absolutely amazing community here at Standing Trials. They are supportive, amiable and fun to play the game with. There are multiple active cities all with their own personality and player populations. There truly isn't a better community in a game.

Idalos is a world of conflict, and chaos. Good and evil are relative terms here. A myriad of races struggle to survive and coexist with one another in a hostile world that will kill them if it can. Spirits, unseen by most, often have a way of making themselves felt by those who attract their attention. Depending on which spirit one has attracted the attention of, this can be either very beneficial, or very dangerous. And if one manages to survive the dangers offered by warring races, curious spirits, and the natural world, they must face the dangers of the Immortals. Some wish to help the mortals. But others wish to use them for their own needs, or destroy them altogether. Even dreams are not completely safe. Despite being protected by a powerful guardian, nightmares can sometimes infiltrate normal dreams, and become very real. Every day is a trial, and survival is not guaranteed. But great wonders await those who do.

Standing Trials is a website that is a window into the world of Idalos. It is a gateway that can transform you into whatever you may wish to be. Will you be a noble commanding the masses, or a pauper merely trying to survive? A proud, seafaring Biqaj rogue, or a simple Sev'ryn hunter? A healer who can cure any illness, or an assassin; a bringer of death to all? Will you be a powerful user of magic, or a mage hunter? Perhaps you will be a skilled craftsman who will forge an artifact that will save millions. Or perhaps you will be the warrior who wields a magic blade, and defends only what is dear to you. Will you own slaves and command them to do your bidding? Or will you be one yourself, longing for the freedom that has been forever denied to you? Will you serve the Immortals willingly, and be rewarded by them? Or will you be their slave, or unwitting pawn? Then again, perhaps you will choose to try and destroy them before they can destroy you? You might even be one of their children. Only you can decide what you will become. Anything is possible. Once you have your character sheet approved, you will receive a quest given by one of our staff members to help you begin your adventure. Remember, your journey is what you make it. Remember, the world of Idalos changes with your actions. If you do not yet have an approved character sheet and have not received a beginning quest yet, think of what you want your character to do. What are their goals? What do they wish to be? What mark do they want to leave upon the world? Then begin to plan. Find a city that has a plot that you feel you would like to participate in. Most importantly, at any time if you feel lonely, connect with the other players. Standing Trials has an amazing community, and many members will be happy to roleplay with you -- to develop plot together with you so that you both may achieve your goals. Who knows, perhaps connecting with other players will move you plot in unexpected ways that leave a smile upon your face.
