A New Game! (Fethryn & Faith)

Jamal had sent her to the outskirts of the city in order to pick some herbs. She had been pleased to be given the job to do, in fairness, as it meant that she got out of the shop and she could work in the outdoors. She was discovering that she loved to do that, to feel the earth beneath her feet and to have a chance to be alone in the quiet and solitude that was only really present when she was alone outside. There was something incredibly soothing about being alone in the fields and the woods, where no one new who she was, or cared, and she could just enjoy the feeling which she was beginning to recognise as serenity. It was a wonderful, intoxicating experience for Faith who delighted in the calmness which was so very new to her.

Except of course for the fact that this bunch of kids seemed insistent of ruining it.

Faith was walking to the area where she thought she might find some Lavendar. She had been out here a few times now and she was getting the feel for the place, so she was fairly sure that she remembered seeing some of the purple scented flowers growing there. She was wearing, as always, the old and ripped black trousers which were poorly fitting, a black strapless top which had seen a lot better trials and her long black hair was tied back into a ponytail. The group of early-teen boys had followed her out here and she had bitten back an internal sigh; they were going to keep following her, she figured. And she was right. They walked behind her, shouting out cat-calls and growing more and more confident with every step as the young girl did not reply or respond to them. As she made her way to the Lavendar patch, things were reaching something of a breaking point. She had asked them, very politely, if they would stop and leave her be, but they were determined. The ring leader, a lad of about 13 who was big for his age, was not backing down.

"What say you be mine, *slave*?" he asked and Faith looked up at him and sighed. "I have an owner." she explained. The young boy sneered and puffed out his chest, playing to his peers and determined to come out on top in this exchange.

"If I kill you, *slave* what will he do?" he taunted, and Faith answered, softly "He would purchase another slave"

The boy grinned and nodded "Then I think that's what I'll do, shall I?" he asked. Faith wanted to fight him, but after the situation where Rafael had intervened when a fat man and his two lackeys had tried to bully her, Jamal had been clear. She was not to get in to fights, she was not to answer back. The only time she fought was to defend her life. So, she looked at the young one impassively and wondered what she was going to do and how she was going to get out of this one. She'd be much happier embedding her knee in this one, or raking her nails down his face to teach him not to mess with girls, even slave girls. But she could not. So, she knelt down in the Lavendar and she started to pick the fragrant herb. The young boy looked utterly infuriated that she was not biting and he reached down to grab her.

He reached to grab her and Faith recognised that he had crossed the line that Jamal had told her she could respond in. She lifted a hand and, as his hand grabbed her shoulder, Faith's hand grabbed his. With her hand over his, she twisted so that his hand and lower arm did the same and the boy let out a yell of pain and surprise. He hadn't expected her to respond and he felt his arm twist as his body involuntarily followed. She pushed against the join where his thumb and forefinger met and it set him up onto his toes with another yelp.

"This will not damage you unless you fight it" she explained, her voice cool and calm and not at all what she was feeling. "I will let you go if you leave. But I will fight you if I must. And if I do, I will hurt you because this is the only way I know not to hurt you. All the other techniques I know... hurt you" Not her best attempt at intimidation, she considered wryly, much too wordy. But just in case he was in any doubt, she pushed a little more and he whimpered. Faith almost felt sorry for him and his friends; almost. He was a bully and if he had been picking on someone else, it might have been an awful lot worse.

But the had done what she needed to do, she knew, in so far as she had frightened the leader and so she thought about it and what she had to do now. She had to give him an 'out'. A means by which the boy could have some sort of ability to not lose total face, a chance to leave so that he would take it with a shred of his dignity. Because otherwise he, and his friends, might decide to give it a go and rely on the odds. And Faith knew, if they did that? Well, they'd win because she really wasn't that good. She had a little bit of skill and a lot of bluff and bluster. Ever had it been that way.

"So, young master, please decide that I am not worth it, for my Master would be most displeased. I will be sure to tell him, though, of our meeting and, if you wish it I can pass on your name to him?" she asked and then, after just a long enough pause, where he could stew on that for a while, she added "Or I can give you Master's name and you can speak to him" and there it was, that spark in the boy's eyes as he nodded.

"Yeah, slave you tell me where he is, and I'll tell him what you've done. And then he'll have you flayed, I bet"

She bowed her head, submissively (whilst keeping her eye on him and if he looked at her funny she was going to sick it to him) and informed him of where it was that she lived. Kash'deel funeral services. She gave him the address and he and his friends made their way, quickly, whilst trying to maintain their swagger and failing miserably. As much as Jamal could be twitchy about such, Faith was sure that even he would not react in any way to this, on the very small chance that the boy went there. So, she watched them leave and she turned back to the herbs that she was picking.

Comment: Buhahah, go Faith go! Loved it, she really showed him. I love how calm she remained, that was hilarious. I didn't see many mistakes, 'of' instead of 'on' in the first post but nothing major. Had to clip one off for story as it falls under 1500 for a solo.
