[Treth] The Newborn Omen

Image
Cylus 1 718

Just as every Trial led up to a new season, every season would lead up to a new Arc eventually. Every Arc had it's own ups and downs, obstacles which were struggles to overcome. With the long night now upon the world many within the area around Ne'haer knew by know, Cylus would definitely bring the worst of all the challenges to come yet. Livestock as well as crops would be threatened by frigid temperatures, people not able to remain warm or sheltered would also freeze. Yet just as the new Arc brought new challenges it had also brought new beginnings, and there was one in particular approaching Tei'serin very soon.

It had been a night she'd spent the following trials reliving with as Tei'serin found herself with child, and it just so happened that the father of this impending newborn happened to be none other than Ziell. Often Tei'serin probably imagined what the child would be like, what sort of quirks would pass on from the father. Undoubtedly she knew it would born a Mortalborn like all other descendants of the Immortals, but beyond that though only imagination could truly paint a vivid picture. Then there was of course another problem that she had to confront, a constant thorn in her side that never relented.

Thorin.

The guardian had never been afraid of making his possession over her clear, and as the impending trial of her labor drew nearer he seemed more anxious. Perhaps it was because he suspected the child to be his as well, though that notion was likely through possession than blood also. Nevertheless he didn't expect anything less of Tei'serin, and as her lower belly swelled with the promise of a child, so too did his manner of caution in regards to her welfare. On this trial though everything would change for the family, of that Tei'serin could be certain as she soon felt herself on the verge of dilation while she worked on the farm.

"Once the chicks are finished with the feed then we'll call it an eve and head inside." Thorin instructed as he threw a filled pail into the trough within the pin, clearly unaware of the fact that Tei'serin was in fact very much in labor at this point in time. That is up until he stopped what he was doing to watch her, his eyes narrowed on Tei while the pail seemed to gravitate to the ground next to him. "Tei'serin?" She could've very well responded to him but something had her attention entirely, the figure of a long haired individual as they walked through the snow in their general direction. No... He approached them specifically it seems, the reveal of his torso with an open jacket as well provided another indication as to who this man could be. Thorin looked to Him in question and back to her, undoubtedly able to recognize the surprise in Tei'serin's face. The Immortal Ziell drew closer to the two, his deep eyes solely on Tei'serin when he came to arrive at their presence.

A tough night was to await her on this candle lit eve, as Thorin stood a major obstacle between Tei'serin and Ziell... and her water finally gave way.

Tei'serin winced visibly as yet another contraction hit, the pain nearly enough to make her cry out. Nearly. But fear kept her silent. Thorin was here, after all, and that was always a reason to fear. Usually, he only wanted one thing during his unpredictable "visits," and with travel as difficult as it was in Cylus, the coldest season of the arc was usually safer than the other seasons. He was less likely to visit in Cylus, and she was less likely to see other "visitors" he had sent her way as well.

Her guardian's presence was bad enough, but his behavior was even more alarming to her. Tei'serin expected cruelty from Thorin as a matter of course. But this visit was different. Not only had he refrained form harming her in any way so far, he had been...considerate of her condition. Could he think that the child she was carrying was his? It was the only reason that might come close to explaining his actions. But Tei'serin didn't know why he would care. It wasn't as if he needed an heir. His son Sorin fit that need. Besides...he certainly couldn't be sure that the child was his when he had used her as a reward for so many during the course on her pregnancy.

So while Tei'serin was relieved that Thorin was leaving her alone for the most part, her anxiety over his motivations for doing so combined with the anticipation of pain should she do the slightest thing to attract his attention or anger ensured that any relief she felt at the lack of immediate physical pain was overwhelmed by worry over what was coming. Even more so because she didn't know what he planned to do with her child should he decide that it was his.

All of this left her little more than a silent ghost as she followed her guardian around the small farm. He wouldn't let her help with the work, probably due to her advanced pregnancy. But she didn't dare leave him to his own devices so she could rest, either. If he were to decide that he wanted her for something, and she wasn't there to answer to that need, she would be punished for failing to anticipate the possibility of him wanting something of her.

When Thorin told her that they would call it a night once the chickens were finished eating, Tei'serin wanted to weep with relief. More than anything, she wanted to lay down. She was in labor, and had been since the earliest breaks of the trial. Judging by the strength of her contractions, the baby would come soon. The healer who was looking after her had promised to check in on her this trial, but something must have come up as she had failed so make an appearance. She was in no condition to ride into the village even if she could somehow get Thorin's permission to do so. So for all intents and purposes, she was on her own.

Tei'serin was about to respond to Thorin when something far more important caught her attention. Ziell approached them, and Tei'serin froze in her tracks. It was fitting that the father of her child be there for his or her birth. Tei'serin had often wondered if he would come to meet his child. Had circumstances been different, she would have been happy to see him. And yet...as things stood now, her happiness and relief at his arrival were mixed with terror. What would Thorin do? Would the man recognize Ziell as the Immortal he was? Would he guess at the reason for Ziell's presence? And if he did...what form would her punishment take? That there would be one was a certainty; the fact that she had given herself to someone other than him or one of his men would no doubt enrage him.

Before Tei'serin could even begin to think of what she should do, her water broke, and the agony of the contraction that took her caused her to collapse with a pained cry that escaped her desperate attempt to conceal it.

Ziell's approach became interrupted by Thorin briefly as he stood between Him and Tei'serin, his face reddened with eyes sharply narrowed on the Immortal that approached the two of them. "What're you doin' here?! You're not-" His voice was cut off from the loud groan Tei'serin couldn't restrain, her pain a sure tell sign that she had been in labor longer than Thorin realized. Ziell merely stood there before Thorin with just a plain and vague expression, the locks of his hair swayed in the cool breeze that wafted from behind him.

The breeze carried itself past Thorin and right to Tei'serin herself, it's nature reminiscent of the cold chill that lingered. Yet somehow even as the breeze caressed her skin, Tei'serin wouldn't even feel cold after the moment air brushed her figure. Really she felt quite warm considering she was in the process of giving birth, Thorin on the other hand looked as though a mere ghost had touched him somehow. His cheeks grew pale and already he trembled from the cold, and quite swiftly his mouth and attitude seemed better contained. No matter what he would say it wouldn't change the fact Ziell was here, that He would be here for the moment his child was brought out into the world.

Some of the farm animals reacted in an unusual manner as well, as though something else lingered within the confines of the barn. When she couldn't help contain another cry of pain, Ziell moved closer to Tei'serin to kneel down before her tentatively. Warm rough hands came to crater her jawline as he brought her eyes to meet his, a look of calm found within his gaze as he came to greet her at a more personal level. "My dearest Tei'serin, you've carried this burden for so long. Now it's time you and I both carried it, to bring it into this world together." As he said this his lips formed a soft smile, while he brushed some of her hair past an ear with content. Something else seemed to grab his attention however, his eyes fallen just past Tei as though something loomed behind her. "You're not what I expected to find."

"To hell with that!" Thorin interjected as he stomped behind the Immortal with a glare shot to Tei. "You're not welcome here! You should leave before-" Out of nowhere the bucket he'd dropped earlier stirred with a life of it's own, and flung itself at Thorin's shoulder with enough volatility to incite a pained reaction. "The sarding hell?! What was that?!"

"It seems you've had a silent protector with you my dear." Ziell remarked as he looked from Thorin to Tei, uncertainty now within his eyes as he held her at the shoulder. "The hard part is almost upon us though, do you think you can move? If not then we'll have to proceed with the birth here." While it wasn't the most exciting idea they had limited options and, evidently, a very difficult night ahead of them.

The breeze was reassuring somehow, and Tei'serin drew strength from it. And when Ziell knelt before her, she narrowed her focus to just him. By ignoring everything else, and focusing exclusively on the Immortal who had sired her child, she was able to rally her courage. Right now, Thorin didn't matter. Tei'serin had utter faith that Ziell would prevent him from interfering with the birth, or hurting either her or the child that was coming. His words gave Tei'serin even more strength. She wasn't alone with this anymore. And that gave her the strength to deal with the pain of bringing her child into the world.

Ziell's next words confused her though. A silent protector? Who was it? Or perhaps the more accurate question was what was it? Tei'serin couldn't see anyone in the direction Ziell was looking in other than Thorin. But even as she watched, a bucket rose from the ground where it had been dropped earlier, and flung itself at Thorin. What had caused that? The invisible protector Ziell seemed to see? Tei'serin was reminded of other times when a door rattled, or a book had fallen unexpectedly with no one near by to have caused it. Every time something like that had happened had been when either Thorin, or one of his men had been hurting her. Were those times also signs of an invisible protector? How had she managed to attract the attention of this invisible protector? And how could she thank it for trying to help her? Tei'serin asked Ziell about this, but was interrupted when another labor pain, stronger than the last drove a cry of pain from her.

When Ziell asked her if she could move, Tei'serin nodded. There really wasn't much choice in the matter. She wasn't going to give birth outside in the yard if she had any choice in the matter. She didn't want Thorin around watching her either, but she didn't know if there was any way to prevent that. So she would settle for being inside where her child wouldn't be exposed to the elements the moment he or she came into the world.

"I think I can." she corrected herself breathlessly.

"If I have help."

[Treth] The Newborn Omen

Image
When another episode of pain had vocally been expressed both men beheld looks of concern, Thorin about to approach again until a frigid breeze brushed against him out of nowhere. But not Tei'serin. No when the air seemed to caress her face it did so lightly, the chill not as cold as one expected it to be for a season like Cylus. "What is this cursed magic?!" The man swore spitefully with a glare to the bucket, suspicious of the object taking a life of it's own and flying at him for more.

Ziell briefly scoffed with the corner of his lip turned upward, however his entertainment remained short lived as Tei'serin was the more important part of his focus. "We'll have to move you inside the barn then, I don't see us making it your house in time." He proceeded to reach but then refrained with hesitation, his eyes above her with a pleading expression within them. It was then the air briefly chilled over Tei'serin and that same bucket from before moved.

It rolled towards her until it bounced into her knee, then again proved lifeless as whatever force there released influence over it. "Please," He calmly asked to what seemed to be the air, "you clearly care immensely for her but you can surely see it yourself. She's in pain. She needs help otherwise she'll suffer, an outcome you wouldn't want to happen now would you?" The point seemed to validate his stance of the argument as whatever loomed over Tei'serin gave in, the breeze around her almost a dying whisper as one word passed her ear.

"Help"

The concern in Ziell's face lightened to relief some as he grinned up to the entity, a nod spared to it for assurance that he'd provide what this presence asked of Him. "I shall, come my dear." He encouraged the woman with a careful reach of his arms, now that he'd been given permission to Ziell helped Tei'serin rise to her feet. "I'll have to explain this ordeal afterwards, but for now we must focus on the child." Their child. No doubt whatever her silent protector was didn't approve of that very much, however given the circumstances there remained little choice in the matter.

Tei'serin was in labor and if something wasn't done soon, both her and the child were at risk now more than ever. Thus the Immortal guided her alongside Him, into the confines of the barn where they would proceed to find a place for her to lie down. Thorin attempted to follow but yet again, found the entity preventing him from doing so with another lash of the bucket from the ground. Thus he remained outside where he was forced to, uncertain of what was to come as Tei and Ziell were left alone inside. The Immortal had hastily found a pile of hay they could use, and with the removal of his jacket he created a makeshift pallet for her to lie down on.

"This is where the hard part comes in Tei'serin." He warned her with an earnest look as she relaxed onto the jacket, a warm hand pressed to her forehead to gauge her temperature afterwards. Of course he could've very well also done it to caress her also, encouraging her to feel at least a bit of ease now that they were together again. "Before we can proceed; how long in-between are your contractions? Do you feel anything else besides the pain?" The Immortal wasn't any expert in helping give birth, but at least understood enough to help the process carry out smoothly.

[Treth] The Newborn Omen

Image
Tei'serin flinched at Thorin's shout. She couldn't help it. The man was obviously angry, that much was painfully clear. And when he was angry, she was the one who usually suffered for it. But Ziell's presence helped to calm her fears in that direction; no matter how angry Thorin was, he was unlikely to do anything to her in the presence of an Immortal. Probably. Besides, she had other things to think about at the trill. Bringing her child into the world outweighed all other concerns just now.

Ziell moved to help her, only to stop and stare at something just above her. Was it the invisible protector that only Ziell seemed to be able to see? Ziell spoke to what looked to her like nothing but air, asking...something to be allowed to help her. A single whispered word was his answer. Help. Was it an echo on the wind? Or the invisible protector? Either way, it was all the answer that Ziell needed. Tei'serin gave him a grateful look when he helped her to her feet, and into the barn. As she did so, she looked back in the direction Ziel had been looking in as he spoke.

"Thank you." she said quietly to the invisible spirit.

The simple phrase conveyed a great deal of meaning, and Tei'serin hoped that her protector understood everything she was trying to say with those two words. Thank you for protecting me from Thorin just now. Thank you for protecting me from him and his men in the past. And thank you for letting Ziell help me now. All of this, and the hope that the invisible protector would continue to protect her in the future was packed into the small phrase she had uttered.

She didn't know if the protective spirit could hear or sense her thoughts, but she hoped that it would continue to hold Thorin at bay, keeping him away from her while she gave birth. Although she dared not say it out loud, the last thing she wanted was Thorin near her while she was so vulnerable. And she was terrified of what he might try to do to her helpless child once he or she was born.

Another agonizingly sharp pain drew yet another cry from her as Ziell was helping her onto the makeshift pallet he had created. He asked her a couple of questions. The first was easy enough to answer, but the second confused her. After a few trills to catch her breath from the last contraction, she responded.

"They're coming every few bits now. And they're a lot stronger now than they were when they first started."

She hesitated for a couple of trills, her confusion evident.

"What do you mean by feeling anything else beside the pain?" she asked.

She tried to remember if the healer she'd seen had said anything that might relate to Ziell's question. But although the woman had been very helpful in explaining the symptoms she had experienced during pregnancy, and in suggesting means to ease them, she had not said much about the actual process of giving birth itself. Tei'serin half expected it was because the older woman had not wanted to frighten her.

[Treth] The Newborn Omen

Tei'serin's words weren't missed when it came to her gratitude towards her protector, while the spirit didn't show any more instances of manifestation in that moment; it certainly made it's presence vividly clear after a long while. Thus it continued to watch over her as the entity would always do, determined to keep at bay the ones that sought to bring her harm most. Thorin certainly felt the front of this spirit's guardianship now, since he'd been assailed multiple times by the sentient entity. While she would find no reason to fear Thorin at the moment, both her appreciation and faith in the Anak empowered it's Concept even further.

Her silent and watchful guardian remained in place, as even the particles of snow that fell were pushed away from it. Thorin watched with wide eyes at the entity that kept vigilance, unsure how exactly he would get past something that watched his prized possession so. Once they were inside however, it was only Ziell and Tei'serin now that the two were left to deliver their child. Therefore the Immortal moved quickly to try and help her relax, his face unchanged from the contemplative stare his eyes seemed to constantly hold. When she couldn't help but release another pained cry Ziell looked first to her and then outside, as though the Anak might react in accordance to her voiced anguish. It wasn't as if Tei'serin couldn't help her self after all, labor was doomed to be a very painful experience for so many in life.

However it could very well be that pain which could change things, as Spirits of Protection were driven to keep those they attached to safe from all. "Stronger is good, that means you're close to the point." He reassured her with a hand brought to caress the backside of her head. "You needn't worry," Ziell assured her at the implication of confusion, "Come the time where your ready, you should feel that your body is inclined to push. That's what these contractions are gradually leading up to, is the moment where you feel it's necessary to push." While at distant within the eyes Ziell couldn't help but smile at his mortal lover, as though he could see something beyond this point in time. Yet what it was he wouldn't say for now, only proceed to try and comfort her further.

"Just remember; take deep and steady breaths, I will have to fetch a pail of water if only for a moment." He assured her briefly just before he rose, while he seemed adamant to leave her so suddenly the water would be necessary. Thus the Immortal moved quickly once he was no longer by her side, which left Tei'serin alone in the barn for a Bit's worth of time. Until finally the breeze outside stirred, softly whistling it's way into the barn as something moved. A dense white orb faintly seemed to float it's way inside towards her, with faint pulses of light emanating from it's center. As it drew closer Tei'serin would quickly notice a 'force' that seemed to project from it's core, however that same projection felt inverted in the Anak's own company.

"You hurt." The Anak almost sounded like it spoke aloud now, however Tei might notice the entity's own voice resonated within her mind also. "Why? Why do you hurt?" There was grave concern as well as curiosity within it's town, as the Spirit already seemed overbearingly watchful of her well being.
