Appearance


At a height of approximately 5’8”, Delta is of average height for humans, though at the shorter end of the spectrum with regard to her biqaj blood, standing above some, with others towering above her. The young woman is athletic in her build, and years of hunting, particularly fishing, have left her with reasonable muscles, and she is best described as somewhat slender. Strong legs from years of living in the wilds, rather than a gentle life by a hearth, are complemented a lean torso and full breasts.

It is rare in people's lives that they will come across such a person whose appearance is so... dominated by their eyes, which appear all the more brighter when endorphins surge through her body as a result of the drugs regularly given to her by Lakia. At other times, Delta's gaze is largely vacant, one that appears to see but not look, and with it she unnerves many. Her bedraggled and knotted, auburn waves hang down to just above her breasts; it is a clear sign of the girl's practical nature - she cares little for her appearance, nor how others perceive her. Another is her skin and clothing, both of which are often covered in mud and dust; her lack of personal hygiene evident. Delta's skin is naturally pale, though she has been known to tan a result of her biqaj ancestry and upbringing, though it does not always take well to prolonged exposure to the sun. Her extended days unable to avoid the sun's rays have caused her skin to bronze, though it only serves to make the silver lines that litter her back: the healed remnants of angry welts, a reminder of a darker time.

As like all slaves across the entirety of Idalos, Delta is marked on the right side of her neck with a brand. This brand is denotes her status as a slave and is a vertical oval. Even though it is over an arc old, it has not healed, and constantly appears red and crusted over with blood from the sheer amount of times that she has picked at it.

Eye Colour
At only half-biqaj, Delta does not display her emotions so fully through her eyes, nor does the colour vary so vividly, like it would with the rest of her kin. Not knowing her true heritage, Delta grew up being proud of this small difference; it was easier to lie to her father, especially. Only when the strongest emotions show do her eyes change colour. Since her enslavement, her eye colour is now also directly correlated to her stage on the cycle of addiction.

Personality


As a result of her mixed blood, Delta has always displayed moments of conflicting personality, despite the sailors' attempts to steer her in the 'right' direction. Always a compulsive child, this trait would never have been an issue had she been allowed to thrive on the high seas. However, her captivity and subsequent addiction has led to compulsive habits, the most damaging of which results in continuous picking at her own skin until she bleeds, and much of her forearms are now covered in seeping welts and scars. This manic behaviour is barely noticed by the girl, who practically enters a dissociative state as she repetitively picks at her skin to reduce stress. The consequences of her captivity (and the resulting forced addiction to Psinia) has also led to a triad in the girl's personality, all of which depends on when her owner decided to give her the next dose.

Satisfaction
For varying periods of time after the drug psinia leaves her system and before she receives her next dose from Lakia, Delta finds herself in a place of constance, rather than flux. This state is when she appears to be the girl that she was brought up to be - adventurous, though calm and conscientious. This is when she is at her most useful, for she is a driven young woman, and strives to be the best she can be, even if her mind is constantly battling over the concept of gaining perfection for the betterment of her Mistress in her wrongful enslavement.

Intoxication
There are very few dangers to psinia, as the drug releases no major physical sensations to match the pleasurable sensations it brings. When high (which can last anywhere from half an hour to four hours, depending on the dose, Lakia's words and the gap between doses), Delta is rendered practically useless. Concerned only with the state of bliss that psinia forces her mind into, she maintains a completely realistic awareness of her surrounding environment, but actively choses to ignore it. At such times, she is almost completely defenceless (though her reactions have not been tested in a threatening environment whilst intoxicated) and prefers to remain immobile as she focuses on enjoyment of her lot. However this is also when she is most supplicant to the wishes of others and, whilst she will not respond to, nor even acknowledge the interrogatives of those around her, she will blindly follow direct instruction.

Withdrawal
Agitated is easily the most effective word to describe Delta's mood when she is going though withdrawal. Irritability is easily the most overt outward sign of the stress that her body falls under when she does not receive her next fix in time. To those who know her well enough, however, they will be able to notice more subtle undertones of anxiety building within the girl, manifesting most commonly in restlessness and a complete inability to concentrate. To one watching her complete a task, they might notice constant fumbling, and in conversation an erratic train of thought might be evident with constant changes in topic, even mid-sentence. In more extreme cases, Delta might even become violent due to paranoia. If Psinia is withheld from Delta over days, her condition will worsen, as agitation and volatility becomes more common. Insomnia is arguably the cause of this for, although there are no physical symptoms of withdrawal from this particular drug, her psyche is so used to it, can cannot cope with sudden removal of the substance. Most often, Delta is very active in her complaints of withdrawal... though very rarely depression might be the result.

History


Born of a biqaj father and an Immortal mother, Delta was the result of a union between a native of the open seas, who had returned to the mainland for a short while with the rest of his crew, and a bored Immortal. Ilaren was the Immortal's name, the Immortal of Alcohol and Brawling, had met the Captain of a biqaj trading vessel, named Eolian, in a tavern in Rharne. A night of wine and merriment lead to the Captain, who had managed to unwittingly woo the Immortal with his confidence and tales, showing Ilaren to his cabin. Soon after, the sailor left to return to the comforting embrace of the open waters, not to return.

Nine months later, it was not chance which reunited the Captain and his one night stand. Ilaren, powerful and influential as she was, had tracked down the biqaj sailor. The meeting was a short one, but the message was clear: "the child is your get, she is your responsibility." The child, named Delta (or Ellie by those who knew her best), spent her formative years aboard the ship, learning the ways of her father's people. And, with her own Mortalborn powers remaining dormant within her, she grew up knowing nothing of her true heritage.

The culture aboard the ship confined Delta for much of her youth - she was not considered a member of the crew despite her status as the Captain's daughter. However, once she was deemed old enough to learn sailing, her days were spent on the deck, learning the practicalities of living on a ship. Delta was the first child that the Eolian had ever carried. For a period, they were nervous around the child. But her infectious enthusiasm for life and learning soon saw them all warming to her. All sailors aboad the Eoliantook an interest in her education, teaching her snippets of what they each knew best. She was only half-biqaj, so they drowned her in information, hoping that, if they overwhelmed her with biqaj culture, they could stamp the human right out of her...

Navigation was something which she was often exposed to, following the maps moulded by cartographers. Another was medicine, simple techniques that she would find useful at sea: the ability to save a life when so far away from a medic was a valuable one. It was interesting, yes, but only to a point... for she was young and wanted to be active. Navigation, where she could really see the benefit of her learning, becme one of her favourite past-times. Eventually, she managed to wear her teachers down with her incessant demands, and she was allowed to climb the rigging. From then on, it was hard to ground the adventurous little halfblood, who was growing to be more biqaj in personality than anything else. Days spent with the lower ranks of the seamen were where she truly learnt of the art of sailing, by allowing the girl to climb the rigging, she was able to gain a practical understanding of how to manipulate the rigging and ropes to change the angling of the sails and, thus, change the direction of the ship.

The girl would have been happy to spend the rest of her life aboard the ship, and for nineteen years, she did... but it was not to be. Coming into port in Augiery, a short, solitary walk upon land would result in her never returning to the sea again. Perhaps it was her looks, or her gender. Perhaps the slavers were desperate. Whatever the reason, she was taken, chained, to the slave market in Augiery. Whether her father tried to search for her, Delta would never discover.

Time spent in Augiery did not agree with the boisterous Mortalborn, the silver lines now lining her back a permanent reminder of what was and (more importantly) wasn't acceptable. This physical punishment was short lived, though, as the slavers who kept her introduced her to a narcotic called Psinia, which released artificial endorphins into the girl's system, inducing a high. This sensation, initially forced upon the girl twice daily, would eventually lead to complete dependance on the Naerikk peoples, for she associated their decorated faces with the pleasure that would push away the dull aches and shakes that would otherwise surge through her body. It was at this time that the half-biqaj's first Mortalborn ability awoke within her, though she had not the sense to understand what it was. Addiction surged through her. And without understanding or control, she would not be able to harness this new ability, so it controlled her, only making it easier for the Naer to control her.

As a female, Delta had no uses for the Naer population in terms of breeding. However, a few seasons after enslavement, an potential buyer would arrive with cause to buy the halfblood. A solitary Naerikk, Lakia Aramanthine, had need of skills that would complement her own hunting ability, skills which Delta could offer. The once free child of the seas was now bound to the land, chained by the craving for drugs that she would only receive from her new Mistress.

When his beloved Ellie did not return to the Eolian, Severn refused to sail from the docks of Augiery for a good number of trials. His crew were charged with a single job: the duty of returning her to him - a task all of the sailors took up willingly. A whole season passed with no news of her. And Severn's money dwindled. By the beginning of the next season, Severn had no choice but to return to the seas, to support his income. Now, the Eolian continues to sail, entering all ports. Each time, the vessel will remain in port for longer than is expected. News has begun to travel of a biqaj vessel causing disturbances in the search of a red-haired girl. Each time... Ilaren's curiosity is piqued a little more.

Details: A man of many principles, it surprised his entire crew when a woman with flaming red hair turned up at their vessel one day with a newborn child. Severn Kedlyn was a man who had always ben so reserved. He came from money, which explained how he had managed to captain his own ship at such a young age. But this upbringing had resulted in a very proud man, one who sailed with integrity across the high seas. His knowledge made him competent, and the respect his crew made him made him confident. Perhaps it was these two things which led to his seduction of the Immortal of Alcohol and Brawling. Despite his situation, Captain Kedlyn rose to the challenge of raising his daughter. And he excelled: raising a child with love and nurturing and valuable life lessons which would have made her as successful as he had been.

When his beloved Ellie did not return to the Eolian, Severn refused to sail from the docks. His crew were charged with the duty of returning her to him - a tack all of them took up willingly. A whole season passed with no news of her. And the money dwindled. He had to return to the seas, to support his income. Though he continues carrying cargo from port to port, he has never stopped searching for his daughter, and will continue to until his dying day.

The Eolian is a trade vessel, which ferries primarily alcohol and related goods from city to city. It has a good relationship with the Aranaz Family, who trade fruit (and more secretly bootlegging). The Severn also maintains strong ties to the main distilleries across Rynmere, distributing the whiskies across Idalos for all to enjoy.


Lakia Aramanthine
Relationship: Owner

Delta's relationship with Lakia is not a stable one. A small part of Delta's psyche understands that Lakia is not the one responsible for her enslavement - the Naer merely bought a slave for company. Lakia even treats Delta well, with kindness, as she craves companionship and friendship, especially with her redheaded possession. But it is this which Delta despises, having known freedom for so many arcs before her current enslavement. In the arc since being transferred into Lakia's ownership, a somewhat begrudging friendship has blossomed between them, reminiscent of something like Stockholm Syndrome, on the part of Delta. However the young slave's reliance on the drug Psinia is still the main reason she follows Lakia, and the drug itself is another issue of contention between the two.

Mortalborn Abilities


Addiction
Rapture
This ability allows Delta to sense, shape and manipulate addictions and withdrawal by targeting a particular pre-existing vice and inducing a feeling of intoxication. Addiction here is defined as "a state of compulsive engagement with stimuli (people, activities, behaviours, drugs or food) despite adverse consequences". Likewise, withdrawal is defined as the "reaction to abstaining from an addictive substance of which it has become dependent and tolerant". Intoxication is described as a "state where they lose control of their faculties or behaviour".

Though unable to create addiction, the Mortalborn is able to actively sense the vices and desires that already control everyone. Once known, if she so choses, she is able to tap into these desires and manipulate an individual to obsessively focus on their vice until they feel compelled to satiate the urge. An individual who ignores the urges will find themselves filled with an overwhelming sense tension and anxiety, which will build and build until they succumb to the desire. In some cases, Delta's quarries are able to ignore the addictions though, depending on their resilience to, and history with, any given addiction, they could be feeling vulnerable to derailment for anywhere from a few breaks to a few trials, especially if they are exposed to triggering situations. At Delta's strongest efforts, her quarry engages with their vice, they will be engulfed by ecstasy: putting them in a state where they lose control of their faculties or behaviour for a period of time.

Side effects have long effected Delta before the awakening of this Mortalborn Ability: she suffers from an impulse-control disorder, which has only grown worse. If using this ability, she will find her anxiety building if she ignores her own impulses. The end result could be severe anxiety, leading to dissociation or panic attacks. She is able to actively use this ability once every few days, though may sense vices at will.

Thunder
Sonic Wave
[When using this ability, Delta is capable of manipulating the shockwaves caused by lightning during a storm (these shockwaves are known as thunder) to deal concussive and possibly deadly results.

When lightning strikes, the Mortalborn is able to release thunder energy to magnify the effects of the (sonic) sound waves, creating a number of outcomes. Most simply, Delta could render an individual or a group deaf (temporarily or permanently) by busting their eardrums. The waves also have the ability to cause concussions or shatter some inanimate objects (for example glass). At her strongest and most focused, she could use this increase of sonic pressure to cause internal injury to mortals, even making organs burst, seriously damaging or even killing her quarry. This ability may only be used when lightning strikes, though her affinity for the storm gives her some warning for preparation.

Side effects for the use of this ability vary on intensity. Delta has some immunity to the sonic waves created by lightning, however her magnification of the sound waves will cause headaches, dizziness and, in most extreme cases, even temporary coma, were she to over-extend herself.

Wine
Vinting Vintage
With this ability, Delta can shape, manipulate, increase and the alcoholic beverage of wine, including all of its variants (for example fortified wines such as Port, Sherry & Madeira).

The Mortalborn is not capable of creating wine out of thin air; she requires some form of wine to manipulate, but is capable of generating more, as long as there is a single drop to duplicate. Often, increasing the quantity of a wine will decrease the quality. More common and useful is her ability to manipulate the properties of the wine, specifically the quality of the wine to a more superior one. This manipulation often takes the form of changing the viscosity, taste, and alcohol-by-volume (ABV.) levels. Often, increasing the quality of a wine will decrease the quantity.

Side effects depend on the extent of the quantity or quality of her manipulation or generation of wine. Delta will suffer a hangover of varying duration or intensity on the trial following her use of this ability. For continued and excessive use (up to 1 pint daily or even more frequently), Delta can experience extreme dehydration and low levels of blood sugar, which can lead to seizures and damage to her brain.
