About

Name: Finn Ashbroken
Also Known As: The Devout, Disciple of Ymiden
Date of Birth: Zi'Da 13th, Arc 681
Age: 36 arcs
Race: Human
Factions Joined: None
Profession: Priest & Doctor Assistant
Marks: Vinyza
Magic: Graft
Living Expenses: Commoner
Languages: Common - fluent; Xanthea - broken
Faith: Mainly follows Ymiden with minor inclinations towards Ashan
Face Claim: Weston Boucher

Appearance

Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 175 pounds
General Appearance: Years of slavery when he was a young lad left him with rough hands full of calluses. There are whispers of muscles underneath his skin that have grown softer with time. He has recovered from the undernourishment of his youth but still he fails to put some fat on. These days, he doesn't sport a toned body, but he is neither squishy. He is your average guy, of average strength who, however, has the potential to become stronger if he'd so choose to.
Clothes: As simplistic as it gets. Finn doesn't favour abundance of possessions, including his wardrobe, nor does he spend unnecessary wealth on things that can be mended.
Peculiarities: Rough hands hinting on years of hard labour. Series of tattoos covering the left side of his neck and extending down his left arm. Upon closer inspection it appears that the tattoos cover burn scars. Finn also has faded scars across his back from lashing.

Personality

Quiet / Thoughtful / Haunted

Finn comes across as a reserved individual with perceiving eyes. He doesn't have the eyes that stare straight into your soul, but his are the eyes that breed trust. He appears naturally calm and in control of himself and his feelings. Sometimes perhaps a bit too much. To those who have known him for a while and those highly observant, Finn might appear as if he was guarding himself from something. In general, he accepts anyone regardless of their race or faith. Yet, in a company of men who are mercenaries, tend to be aggressive or appear to be stronger than him, he gets tense and tries to avoid staying in their presence for too long. Many might mistake it for cowardice if they don't know any better.

Finn Ashbroken

History

Zi'Da 13th, Arc 680: His name is Finn Ashbroken, also known as the Devout. Born on that day to a farmer and a seamstress, he had a life of hardship lined up for him, until his thirteen arcs when his life would make a cruel turn for the worse.

Ashan, 694 Arc: He became enslaved. Finn lived in a settlement just north of the Hotlands. It was very often in the way of many skirmishes between various races, factions and professions. Before that day, many just went past them, leaving little damage behind. However, it was only a matter of time until even this settlement would become the victim of bloodthirsty mercenaries and the carelessness of those who had the power to destroy.

"I got it!" He can still remember shouting proudly, energetically turning around, hand held high above his head. He found the nasty stone that seemed to have damaged their plough. The moment he turned, however, the rising Ashan heat was replaced by a sudden shot of Viden's freezing winds at the sight beyond. Their village...was on fire. His father was already an indiscernible figure running towards the settlement. Framed with flames, he looked like he could be an Aukari. Finn remembers the horror, the pungent taste of fear on his tongue. "Daddy!" It was a frightful call for a man who was his idol, his protector. Now gone. Whoever was the figure cloaked in smoke of burning houses, they cut his father down with mind numbing ease. One large, symmetrical swoop of the sword that cleaved its way into his father’s torso. He never stood a chance. "Mommy..." That was a whisper on orphan's lips who was yet to find out the truth with its consequences. Perhaps, if he would have listened to the unfamiliar voice in his head that screamed at him to run, he would never end up where he did. Or perhaps, if he didn't shiver like a dog that was about to be beaten, they would have never seen him.

Ithecal became his master that day. He claimed Finn’s loyalty, enslaving him under the pretense of saving his life; hence, the boy had to pay back the debt of such gracious act. Little did young Finn know, that there was no fight of two parties happening in the settlement but that this man led an assault on his home under false belief, murdering all that Finn knew just so he could gain supplies that he could otherwise ask for.

706 Arc: His master was dead, burnt in a fire the likes of which Yaralon rumored about cycles after the amber turned to coals and ash settled over the crispy carcasses. Many died that day. Many believed everyone died in the house - the master, the servants, the slaves. Through the side streets of the city, going against the flow of those who ran to spectate or help, a man of many overt and covert scars bent his head a little lower, adjusting a heavy sack on his shoulder. He was ready to taste the freedom, once he’d wash of his sins.

709 Arc: He was a beggar in Rharne. Or so he posed himself as such. After his suddenly gained freedom, Finn struggled to figure out what to do with himself. He tried many things, but found himself often just standing or sitting around, watching people, listening to them, offering his insight. Many times, people returned to him for more, finding comfort in his words even if he did not disclose much about himself. On one such day, he met Telar, a travelling priest. They engaged in many conversations over the following days, gently figuring out more about the other. It did not take long for Telar to recognize what troubled Finn. Nor did it take long for Finn to figure out that the old man was also searching for a solution regarding a looming difficulty. Neither of the two men could exactly pinpoint how and when it happened, but eventually they established the mentor and mentee relationship during those days in Rharne. Both being men of faith, they knew that this arrangement would be beneficial for them. The travelling priest was the first one to show kindness to the Devout, as Telar started calling Finn later. As such, they started travelling the lands of Idalos together. Telar guiding Finn on the road of spiritual but also physical healing. Finn helping Telar to move, to accommodate to the aging man who was slowly losing his sight. And a few starving families in the Dust Quarter found themselves a little richer, able to feed their children.

711 Arc: After being taught how to read, write and count properly, Finn has been initiated into Graft Arcana by Telar. When asked why, Telar would reply that Finn has far from reached his full potential. Now that Finn was able to bring peace to one’s mind, it was time to step further. In Telar’s words, it was for Finn to give back to the world that gave him life. For Finn, it was another way how to divert himself from the issues of the past.

Saun, 716 Arc: Finn and Telar arrived in Ne'haer. Telar's reasons were for himself to attend to matters in surrounding territories, requesting that Finn stay in Ne’haer to settle and prepare a some sort of lodging for both of them. Often the two men separated for countless trials, or even a cycle. Telar’s growing blindness never proved to be a challenge for the old man. And so they parted half a season ago.

Zi'da 75, 716 Arc: Telar passed away and Finn left Ne'haer few trials later not to return for over an arc.

Saun 35, 718 arc: Finn is defrocked and excommunicated from the Faithful in Ne'haer. Grand Cleric Jemus issues an edict which portrays Finn as a bad character housing sympathies for mages, spreading rumours that he may be helping them.

Note: Regarding Telar and Arcana, it's been allowed and approved by Jade via private messages. Furthermore, upon Finn's entry into Idalos's story, Telar has been gone for around half a season. As such, at this point in time, I don't see it necessary to include Telar as Finn's NPC until Finn settles down in Ne'haer and I feel that he is ready to continue his arcana study, or until the need for Telar arises due to story demands.

Finn Ashbroken

Family & NPCs

Name: Berin
Race: Human
Date of Birth: Ashan 29, Arc 661
Skills: Agriculture (35), Animal husbandry (20), Gardening (5), Tanning (25), Unarmed combat (15)
Appearance: Berin was born a big baby and remained rather heavy built throughout his life. He was 5'10" tall with massive hands. Massive rough hands that knew how to work the land, turn soil, but also gently handle animals (or his wife). His nose has been a little crooked every since a fight over Riona where he got his nose broken. But it won her heart so it was worth it. He had sand blond hair that he cared for very little. It was always a mess with dirt in the locks. Berin had kind grey eyes that looked at everything for the face value it had.
Personality: He was not very intelligent. He never learnt how to read or write properly. For that he relied on his wife. But he was kind, down to earth and willing to listen to people before jumping to conclusions. He was caring and gentle, but rough if provoked. It would take a long while to upset but once that would happen people better get out of his way.
Relationship to PC: Father
Status: Deceased

Name: Riona
Race: Human
Date of Birth: Saun 39, Arc 663
Skills: Appraisal (30), Drawing (15), Sewing (45), Shoemaking (10)
Appearance: Riona was your usual village girl - plump with kind if a little withdrawn personality. She was of average height with auburn hair that looked like fire in Saun, with two emerald gems for eyes that sometimes sparkled so irresistibly. She dressed simply despite being a seamstress. She found simplicity much more appealing than the complicated dressed she would sow for her clients.
Personality: Riona was quiet and calm. She kept to herself most of her life which sometimes made her come across as cold and uninterested. Even to Berin, her husband, she sometimes appeared to be apathetic. However, he always had a way of coaxing a smile from her. She was an observer. When Finn was born, first few years were challenging. Her own mother was long dead and Riona was unsure on how to deal with a baby. But after a few arcs, she managed to form some sort of connection with her son, though she was relieved that the boy has looked up more to his father than her.
Relationship to PC: Mother
Status: Deceased

Name: Telar
Race: Human
Date of Birth: Ymiden 53, Arc 644
Skills: Detection (15), Discipline (30), Rhetoric (30), Teaching (25)
Magic: Graft
Appearance: Even in his old age, Telar remains tall, if a little shriveled. His body is thin due to age and a diet of bread and water. He appears as any old man would with rich white hair and a well kept white beard. An air of stability surrounds him. Yet, what most people remember about him are his eyes - partly clouded with blindness. It is not that physical appearance but the feeling that even if he sees the world as a one large blur and shapes disappearing into oblivion, his eyes are still seeing, staring sometimes and knowing that which is perhaps sometimes not meant to be known. As a man of faith, he dresses simply. Usually he is seen in a tunic, mended and washed multiple times, a little worn as a result, with warm undergarments and woolen trousers. Simple shoes that are comfortable to walk in and a cloak to shield him from wind. When he is journeying on his own, he might have a staff to lean on if he is having one of his bad days when his joints creak as he would say.
Personality: Telar has the air of knowing around him. The impression that whatever he does or says has an ultimate purpose which is privy only to his mind. As if he was a grand schemer. Yet, no one ever feels like his pawn. He rarely moves people areound like chess pieces. Instead, he nudges them in a certain direction and lets them decide whether to proceed or not. As such, he is understanding. He listens and he hears what others are saying. He is perceptive which makes him a great priest along with his general guiding nature. He devoted with secret inclinations to fanaticism without the oppressing nature of having to convert every single soul. He is kind but firm. He knows his worth in his own eyes and in the eyes of the immortals he serves.
Relationship to PC: Mentor in the spiritual matters and Graft as well as a friend
Status: Deceased
word count: 771

Magic

Graft
Magic to experiment and manipulate living organisms. Grafters wrestle the line between healer and maniacal scientist, experimenting with magical circuits to attach new properties to themselves and others.

Witchmark: On his left forearm, underneath the tattoos, burn scars, and skin itself is a minimal protrusion of a malformed baby sized hand. Its palm and fingers are defined. Someone with high detection may notice it with their sight. Otherwise, a person would need to brush over it with their fingers to find it. (WIP - yet to be approved)

Marks

Vyniza

The domains of Dawn and Summer suggest the source of energy, and the mood of warmth and relaxation; and those of Rebirth and Forgiveness indicate the ideals of cleansing and purging of negativity and affliction. The mark itself appears much as the dawn, with a pattern of sun's rays brightening the color of the hair. If the hair is already a light shade, the mark will actually darken a reverse pattern, to result in the same effect. At higher levels of devotion, a halo becomes perceptible, bringing an even more representative look of dawn wherever the Blessed individual goes. Knowing the need for caution, Ymiden's mark does not shine to outline the Blessed individual at night.

Abilities

Early to Rise
  • Add an extra three skill points to one of the following skills: Agriculture, Cartography, Meditation, Psychology or Swimming. Any skill points granted by this Mark can break the 100 point cap on skills.
Painted Sunrise
  • The Blessed can enhance the color of anything with the colors of the sunrise. This can be used to conceal someone or something by making it the same sunburst color scheme as everything around it. This change will last as long as noon of the same trial.
Ray of Sunlight
  • The Blessed one can, from any logical point on his body, emit a ray of sunlight. This can be used like a torch in a dark place, a flare for searchers, a dazzling blinder against an attacker, a flash signal to send messages over a considerable distance, or any other creative use. This ray can be maintained for ten bits (minutes) for each ability the Blessed has in this Mark (so, 30 bits at first, etc)
Eye of the Beholder
  • Once a week, the Blessed one can make one target truly put themselves in their adversary's shoes, allowing them to see things from their perspective. Regular skills like Persuasion and Negotiation are far more effective in conjunction with this ability. Negative based coercion, like Intimidation or Bribery however, can completely undo these benefits. Many an altercation or long-standing feud has been resolved through the use of this one power.

Knowledges

Painted Sunrise
  1. Light reflecting camouflage
  2. Focus to do it right
Eye of the Beholder
  1. Physical contact may help
  2. Tell the story like your own
