Aelius Callistus

Core
Image
At first glance, few would be able to tell that Aelius’ father is an Eídisi, yet he remains. One would see Aelius’ towering frame, a man of great stature, standing at six foot four. Despite his height, Aelius is a lithely built young man, only weighing around one-hundred and sixty pounds, give or take a few given the day. Taking after both his mother and father in terms of facial structure, Aelius’ cheeks are hollow, his jaw is streamlined, and his eyes are shaped like rounded almonds. The texture of his hair is the type and shade of his father’s, a dark tone that he keeps cut short. Like his father, his eyes are entirely white and seemingly ethereal in their quality, and, like most of the Eídisi, he is assumed blind at first by those ignorant to the trait, but they soon find out that it’s not the case at all. This mistake is often made due to the color of his skin, for it lacks the periwinkle shade of his father, yet takes on the cool caramel tone of his mother. Like his mother, his lips are fuller, supplely spreading to let loose his charismatic charm and enrapturing words.

Should another see Aelius without his clothing, they would note the various markings inherited from his father’s blood. The markings are not scars, but are murals honoring those of his father’s kin who suffered underneath his patron deity’s experimental hand. One such mark is seen coming up the right side of his neck, a slither of what is seen rolling down his chest, bending left. It snakes its way towards his left rib cage, flourishing out in pale, decorated flesh along the bars of his cage.
Psyche
When one talks to Aelius for the first time they’ll note his graceful way of putting words. He speaks with skill and enunciates his words clearly to make sure he isn’t misunderstood, and his voice is deep yet soft like dark velvet. It was a trait inherited by his father through observation and then practice, but it has remained throughout his life as a staple of his basic personality, the first impressions. Other pieces of information gleaned from Aelius as one talks to him for the first time would be how his eyes, void of irises and pupils, seemingly give an unended stare to those he is talking to. He means to be polite but the lacking of irises and pupils tends to unnerve people. He is used to capturing the attention of those around him, and thus seems to revel silently when he is put in the spotlight. His father instilled a sense of great pride in him, telling him that regardless of his mixed roots, he had the capability of showing other Eídisi just how on par he is with them. Like his father and mother, he is incredibly intelligent and has a high capacity for learning.

Going on, Aelius adheres to the rules of society set by him, bending some when he knows he can get away with it, and when it’ll benefit his research or goal. He hates chaos and disorder, often seeking to bring order to what he believes is out of it so that he can feel more at ease. In this, he expects order and loyalty from those he is close to. Aelius is a chaste individual, meaning he is devoted to those he holds close because of how long such relationships take to forge between him and another. He holds relationships dearly and expects those he holds close to do the same for him. The few friends he has have seen him bend backwards for them at the sacrifice of his own hide.

Those who betray his trust find no forgiveness from him. He is utterly vindictive to those who have wronged him or his few allies and friends. Most times he doesn’t ask for rhyme or reason to dislike another, trusting his ally’s intuition almost entirely on the matter due to the high level of trust forged between him and the other. Because of how highly he holds his allies, he can be protective over them, even to the hinderance of the relationship at some points due to his overarching concern. Outside of relations, he is rather altruistic, selfless, in his giving when it comes to worldly possessions. To him, knowledge and learning are the most cherishable treasures of all. Since they cannot be taken from him, he doesn’t worry about them being taken. He could have everything but his close allies taken from him and would manage to rebuild. It, however, doesn’t mean he gives easily.

By default, Aelius is a candid individual. He believes that in truth one finds understanding, and in deceit one is lost. He yearns to share the knowledge he’s attained and to learn more from others more learned than he. Thusly, he doesn’t believe it right to lie flatly to another’s face because of the hinderance of knowledge it casts on the individual lied to. That said, he’s told his share of lies to those he believes undeserving of his knowledge, and he has lied to those his allies do not trust. Secrets are near and dear to him, and his mouth is a vice around those secrets, only to be shared when permission is granted, if ever.

Depending on the situation, Aelius may approach it with tact or brutality. This is all done with a slinging of words, not weapons. Very rarely does Aelius call upon his magic or weapons to do a job capable of being done by words alone. When he is tact, he is persuasive, and when he is brutal, he is destructive. He has become versed at reading those around him due to his ability to glean knowledge so quickly. Secrets he’s managed to learn about an enemy may come up in order to strike like flaming daggers; a sword would only wound physically to be healed in days, words can wound for years, some never to be healed.

Aelius is a rational young man. As a man of learning, he has learned to be as such. Superstitions usually do not bother him, and the deity he holds in the highest regard is Yvithia. Considering that, in learning Aelius has become a cautious person. When one rushes they miss the bits of information that could’ve greatly helped them on their journey. Yet, because they rushed, they missed it and made their journey harder than it should’ve been. He’s cautious, plainly speaking, and not one to rashly rush ahead. He’s not a spineless individual though. He is valiant when he needs to be, he just prefers to be prepared, to expect the unexpected which resides in the unknown.
Saga
Aelius was born in Viden to his Eídisi father, Pelagius, and his Human mother, Naomi, in the 692nd arc. Growing up, he seemingly developed at an accelerated rate when it came to mental cognition. Though he was small, his mind was not and he seemed to absorb what was around him. By his 26th week of life, Aelius was up and walking and was babbling coherent words before that. By the time he was two arcs old he was speaking in simple sentences that only continued to develop. Around his fourth arc of life he was learning to read and solve basic math problems under the tutelage of his father, who took an immense interest in his son’s mental development.

Turning five arcs old, Aelius started primary school, an education that would seemingly soar as he excelled past his classes and trumped many of his human counterparts. He managed to be rid of both primary and secondary school courses by his fourteenth arc of life and was soon enrolled in courses at the Academy, where his father worked as a professor, his mother being a researcher. His father continued to guide him through school and was relatively strict when it came to his studies. For four arcs Aelius was a student at the Academy, starting on the path to becoming an apprentice underneath his father.

It all changed during his eighteenth arc when Aelius began to grow tired of constantly following in his father’s footsteps and guidance. He began to resist his father’s rigidity and it was then that his father told him of the reason he was being so anal about Aelius’ education; Pelagius didn’t want the other Eídisi looking down on him simply because he was a mixed race. Pelagius wanted Aelius to be able to think and behave on par with the Eídisi in order to show half-Eídisi weren’t as useless and lesser as believed. Considering that, there was a lot on the young Aelius’ mind, but he still yearned to forge his own path.

At nighteen, Aelius was approached by a representative of the Seekers. The Seeker was intrigued by the young man’s promising potential and ability to seemingly learn any and everything with enough determination. The offer came for Aelius to travel with the Seeker and learn of Arcana, a relatively unknown ability. Aelius saw the chance to be something great should he pursue this unknown discipline. He could show he was far from ordinary, he was above the expectations set by those full-Eídisi whom his father warned him off. He could show his father what he was truly made of and make him proud. However, when the news was broached to Pelagius, there was a rocking of the foundation Aelius had been built upon. Pelagius felt as if everything he had done for Aelius was for naught, and his son was abandoning it all in order to pursue his own whims and fantasies.

Hurt, Aelius went with the Seeker anyway to Andaris, promising his father he would return and show him exactly what he could do once he learned the craft. Aelius didn’t know if it would repair the now fractured relationship with his father, but he was determined to follow his own path, a path he was now free to follow, if only to return to where it all started, Viden.

Aelius was tested under several of the Arcana to see which of the many he held a talent for. It was revealed Aelius held an aptitude for both Abrogation and Gravitation Arcana. The young man chose to take on Gravitation Arcana first, settling on taking Abrogation later when he grew masterful in the first. He was taken under Sorcerer Servius' wing and taught in the ways of Gravitation for three years as a Neophyte, and Servius learned how swift a learn Aelius was. Aelius seemingly streamed past the basics of the courses, only starting to slow and stumble when advanced practices were added to his exercises. Aelius didn't give up in his learning though, putting the same amount of effort into shaping his Arcana as he did into his studies at a young age.

Turning twenty-three arcs old, Aelius ascended to the rank of Acolyte and shed the leash his teacher had put on him. He was now able to be on his own for the most part and execute jobs tasked to him. He did so, and did so successfully for the most part. Yet, as he took on more assignments, he began to learn it would be difficult to do many things alone, especially when it came to hunting down rogue Seekers or mages. Aelius found allies in his colleagues, learning to team-up in order to deal with a threat with greater skill and efficiency. A few of these allies turned into longtime friends, and others managed to turn themselves into rivals.

Aelius turned twenty-four and was still an Acolyte. He expected himself to be approaching the rank of Sorcerer, like his teacher before him. He had grown used to excelling quickly, thus, when he wasn't, it became alarming and disheartening for he knew if he did not attain the rank of Sorcerer in a year's time, he would be expelled from the Seekers altogether, his conduit confiscated. As 716 turned over, he grew strong-willed, pressing himself to achieve the rank of Sorcerer by 717, should he face expulsion otherwise.

Estate
Housing
Aelius rents a room at Ye Olde Inn in Andaris. His room is of ‘good’ quality and possesses more standard quality furniture than the quality of rooms below his. It’s a single studio apartment with a place for his double-bed, a hearth, small dining table and chairs, a decently sized sitting area, and opening for visitors to take their shoes off upon entering. He also possesses a desk, hutch for his dishes, cupboard for utensils and jars, along with a set of shelves to hold books and other knickknacks, decorative or non.

Flavia
Flavia is a tamed caracal cat obtained by Aelius around his twenty-third arc of life, his fourth arc with the Seekers. She is named for her golden hued coat and eyes. She has been a companion of Aelius’ since then and is often referred to as his best friend, as he keeps her closer than he does most other mortal beings.

Like all beings, Flavia has a personality of her own. Though she is tame, she was already a deeply loyal feline, bringing joy to Aelius upon their first meeting. She is quiet and playful, yet fierce all the same. It’s clear she enjoys her wild side, but manages to find tranquility in the calm her owner exudes. Her trust is only earned vicariously through her owners, yet she is not aggressive to those unknown. She judges her reactions based on Aelius’: if he is afraid, then she is afraid, if he is angry, then she is angry, too. So it goes.

The Conduit
Aelius' conduit is a flattened disk with two axeled edges. The edges, which rotate around the centerpiece and bulk of the disk, are etched with an elegant design, dark atop the pale iron color. In his spellcasting, though it is near instant, the edges either flex, rotate, or flourish depending on the type of spell he's channeling. It is a Gravitation conduit, thus when Push is cast the edges flex forward, thrusting to cross over the Well in the center, expelling a kinetic pulse outwards. When Pull is cast the edges open up, pulling back towards Aelius' body, creating something of a vacuum effect to force the intended object towards Aelius.

The edges are in near constant motion when idle yet awaiting command. As if a test of his ability in itself, the conduit must be levitated with his power to float between his hands, the edges propelled by a trickle of his ever-flowing energy, always ebbing to be commanded in the moment as opposed to lengthy preparation, slightly cutting down on his reaction time.

The Well (pictured), an Imedyte piece granted to him by Selvius, sits in the middle of the main body of the disk, tethered there by a chaining prison and shackle bound around the center of the Imedyte's body.

Relations
Ciarán
Relation | Estranged

It has been some time since Aelius last saw Ciarán. He believes she is avoiding him purposefully, perhaps she caught wind of his seeming affections for her. He has not given much thought to it, though her disappearance has hurt him emotionally. It isn't often he considers someone so close, close enough to warrant the term 'friend', but now that she has seemingly avoiding him, he has begun to double down on his own efforts in ascending the ranks of the Seekers. While it was once a goal wanting to be accomplished with her, he plans to do so alone or with another he can call 'friend'.Relationship upon creation...
► Show Spoiler
Selvius Tarnequinn
Relation | Mentor

Selvius and Aelius do not share a relationship kindred to friends. They are cordial to one another, but there is a rigid line that cannot be crossed by the younger man. Selvius has set it up so the extent of his relationship with Aelius is that of a teacher, not a friend, but someone to act as Aelius’ guide should he ever be lost. Aelius has never sought to press the boundaries of his relationship with his mentor for fear of backlash, and doesn’t seek to do so now even though he is an Acolyte and the leash of his mentor has been significantly loosened. Aelius respects his teacher and treats him as just that, a man whom he can be gracious with but also can come to if he should need advice.

At this point, Selvius is a hands-off mentor, an observer to how his student does in the real world where Seekers must proved themselves in two years or risk expulsion. There is a faith in Selvius that Aelius will not fail, and there is a want in Aelius to not let down the man whom took a great deal of time teaching him all he knew.

Selvius still acts as Aelius’ go-to when aid or guidance is needed, but lately their distance has been expanding as Aelius proves himself as a capable Acolyte. Aelius fears it’ll deteriorate entirely once he ascends the rank of Acolyte to Sorcerer, but holds onto the hope that, as comrades, him and Selvius will grow into friends.
