Patrick's overdue transformation commences.

With the escalation of hostilities between Etzos and Rhakros, a series of small walled towns is being established as a network of early warnings and defenses against Rhakros' reprisals. Only the very bravest and most formidable of characters should risk themselves on the Witches' Wilds frontier.

Cylus 28 718
Location: Southgard

Sixteen trials ago there was the discovery of something both amazing and terrifying, the lost city of Orimar had finally been revealed to it's first visitors... after ages had passed since it's descent beneath the earth. A city once great in it's time remained a mystery to the world, but when they arrived there the truth was soon learned. And with it the horrid lingering forms that haunted the shadows of that once glorious bastion, all while the expedition itself clawed it's way out for another chance to live. But no more.

Shortly after their brief and narrow window of escape the group Pat had been with suffered, in more ways than one, from there short visit to the ruins beneath the earth. Orimar had quite the impression on those that got out alive, and word had definitely spread once the tremors were felt throughout the land. Now with the ruins more than likely crumbled torn apart, hopefully nobody else would ever have to encounter the horrors that remained. Surely Pat didn't want to, given the fact the outcome was far from what they had in mind.

With the expedition over the survivors went their separate ways, Crowley himself invited Patrick back to Ne'haer before he left. An offer Patrick would take up soon, once he resolved his current predicament that is. Ever since their escape from Orimar Patrick's own Spark had been weird, his entire spirit felt partially torn in two due to his attempts of opening the Portal out of there. The medics in Foster's Landing hardly knew of ways to alleviate this, but believed those in Southguard had someone well practiced in understanding Sparks as well as their nature. A thought that unnerved Patrick to a degree, but nonetheless required some looking into in order to fix what was broken.

Half the time he felt his nerves jittery like an energetic shock had surged through them, which made him even more uncomfortable during his trip to Southguard. Once there he of course had a few dealings with the people, but sure enough with a bit of looking after he got the help he needed. Ellen'wyn had also been there to accompany him, something he questioned since the expedition was done; but at the same time he couldn't just say no either. As much of a pretty face as she was Patrick knew she had survival skills, and more than likely something to say in regards to the expedition. It was true that she had suffered just as well as everyone else, and while not obligated she still decided to tag along with him. She may have given her reasons well enough, but even then Pat didn't felt it justified her being here when she could've been off elsewhere by now.

Maybe striking it rich with whatever loot she took from Orimar? Or perhaps just off hunting like she normally would, now that the excitement and adventure was over? Whatever brought her along for the trip didn't really matter to Pat of course, truth be told he was happy just to have company along the way. All throughout the course of their trip he felt his entire nervous system jolt and in some instances burn, reminding him that all was still unwell between him and the Spark that lied within. Sure enough their arrival in Southguard had a few instances he needed to deal with, the initial greeting and run around of the guard as well as the healers within the medical facility he rested in. Once the specialist came to treat the problems involved with his Spark, Pat had been given the rest of the eve to rest in bed there so that both he and Ellen could be on their way.

But little did he know something so very crucial was removed from his being...

One of the medics there had slipped off the artifact band given to him by Ymiden, and asked Ellen'wyn to hold onto it for safe keeping in that same moment. Probably because they felt the band wasn't contributing to the recovery process, or somewhere along those lines of poor decisive judgement. Now after approximately thirty Bits of undisturbed sleep, Patrick stirred with a hefty amount of sweat across his forehead. "The sarding hell!" He murmured with a dry raspy tone as though he had been breathing heavily, while the dream he'd awoken from still remained fresh on his mind. Patrick looked to Ellen'wyn and for a moment found relief in knowing it was just that, a dream he didn't have to worry about now that he finally awoken. Laying back down into the mattress he exhaled a sigh and for a moment felt peaceful again, but only in that moment as something else suddenly bothered him.

"Finally! The door to this cage has been opened!!" Something deep within him churned as he looked to the ceiling in surprise. A quick check of the finger on his left hand alerted him, as he then realized he didn't have his band on like he should've. "Ellen," He murmured her name almost panicked, "Where's the ring?! I need it!" His behavior might've came off as belligerent or even delirious, like something terribly awful was going to happen without it.

Probably because something was.

"You're too late!" The fiend inside taunted him as he rose to sit at the edge of the bed, when he tried to push to a stand though he already staggered. After just a few feet he fell to the floor with breathes heavy and shallow, his body temperature on the rise as he started to claw at his own shirt. Shit. "Ellen- Agh!!" The first snap occurred within his chest and he growled loudly, the other medics already drawn to him as he tried to warn Ellen'wyn of the danger. "Ellen'wyn!! Run!! Get out!!" More loud and painful cracks snapped from his back, as his spine already started to break and expand. There was nothing left for Patrick to do at this point, other than try to contain the rage waiting to break free.

For Ellen'wyn there was still a chance to get away, to seek safety elsewhere before the danger pursued her.... everyone else here was doomed the moment they removed the ring from Patrick's finger.

Notice: As of Ashan 717 Patrick is now a Sessfiend, which means once a season he'll turn against his will. This is not only dangerous but life threatening to pc's, therefore any who partake in the event of the transformation, should be aware of this risk during that specific time period. Have fun and enjoy!

The Fiend Unleashed

Postby Ellen'wyn » Mon Apr 02, 2018 9:16 pm

Cylus had been very up and down so far. Ellen'wyn was weary from the exertions of the season. Their adventure to find Orimar had technically been a success. They'd found the lost city and some of the treasures within, but also some of the monsters. Nightmares of multi-armed figures chasing her through stone tunnels plagued most of her nights, or she woke up with a horrible sensation of plummeting through the air. Often she was tangled in her night clothes, skin sticky with sweat and tears soaking her cheeks.

Her injuries hadn't been horribly severe, and she was very lucky for that, but the healers of the Order of the Adunih had given her plenty of willow to brew as a tea to help with the pain in her leg and shoulder, and a poultice to help fight inflammation and the possibility of infection. She and Patrick had been bedridden briefly before being discharged with strict medical guidance. Despite the diligence of the healers though, Patrick was still unwell and Ellen couldn't help but feel agitated by this. Crowley had gone back to Ne'haer, so the mixed-blood felt unconsciously responsible for helping Patrick find out what was wrong.

She accompanied him to Southgard in search of further treatment, and she was glad he didn't protest her insistence to keep an eye on him. The redhead was trying to remain as aloof as possible after their brief yet very intimate encounter--it felt like a lifetime ago now--but she wasn't doing a particularly good job. The trip was full of awkward silences and lingering glances, though this was also due to the fact that Ellen was worried for her companion.

They wound up in another medical facility. This one seemed slightly more advanced, and the personnel more knowledgeable. She did her best not to pry or eavesdrop while Patrick was being treated, but she still lingered in doorways and corners, perched nervously on the balls of her feet like a little agitated bird. Ultimately they seemed to have some success.

It was some time later than Ellen'wyn sat at Patrick's bedside in a squat chair, her lids heavy with physical and mental fatigue. His eyes were closed and his face was finally relaxed. His chest rose and fell with the deep tempo of sleep. She sighed heavily through her nostrils, absently rolling his ring around in her fingers. They'd offered her a bed down the hall, but she was comfortable enough with her wings cushioning her shoulders against the back of the chair. The willow tea had dulled the throbbing to a small ache, and soon her head dropped and she was asleep.

"The sarding hell!"

Ellen jumped, nearly knocking over her chair. Heart galloping against her ribs, the mixed-blood looked around the room but saw nothing.

"It's alright," she mumbled comfortingly, realizing then that he'd woken from a dream. She understood that feeling all too well. But his relief changed quickly to distress. She frowned deeply, looking around herself again. She'd dropped the ring in her brief panic. "It's here somewhere," the redhead tried to assuage, but he seemed terribly distraught. She dropped to the floor, hoping it might have simply rolled under the bed.

Thump! Snap!

Ellen gasped at the horrible sounds, head shooting up and eyes meeting Patrick's again. His features were twisted in pain and fear. He'd fallen to the floor and was grasping at his chest as if in pain.

"Patrick! What's wrong?" She crawled to him quickly, hands hovering over his shoulders uncertainly. She could feel the heat of his skin without even touching him. Was he dying? Had the doctors failed to heal him? Her chest tightened and he snarled--it was an inhuman noise, something guttural and hungry. "What do you mean, run?" Her voice had risen several octaves. She was frantic now. Eyes round and full of moisture, she shouted at the top of her lungs. "Someone help, please!"

Bones shifted under his damp clothing then and she gasped. Mouth a little slack, she was frozen to the floor beside him in some morbid, horrified fascination.

The sounds emanating from the room were enough to draw both doctors and guards. They would push Ellen'wyn aside, with neither great force nor gentleness. Patrick's body was now undergoing undulations of both mass and shape. Pain is associated with the kind of workouts that build muscle mass, and Patrick was now subjected to arcs' worth in the span of only a few ticks. His shirt soon popped buttons and ripped leather lacings through the holes reinforced for their use, as his screams grew ever more beastial.

The face shifted as well, hair becoming a wild mane, the ears sliding up to a higher location and developing the same mottled fur as was now enveloping every inch of skin that could be seen. The guards backed away, the color draining from their faces as their hands reached for their swords. The doctors were only too willing to leave such defense duty to their doomed, armored fellows as they made no bones about running away in terror, shouting warnings to the increasingly alarmed citizenry outside.

One doctor, braver than the rest, took the extra moment to gather up Ellen'wyn, with a shake to rouse her from the shock of Patrick's ungodly transformation. He rushed her out the door in front of him, vainly slamming the door behind as the roars of the beast now blended in with a hellish chorus of screams and gurgles, punctuated by the oddly metallic tearing of mail.

None present were aware of the instinctive pull of the Sessfiend toward any others that had any importance to the cursed soul within. Wherever Ellen'wyn went, the beast would eventually track her, with only the opportune appearance of random victims to distract him. A hunger of savage proportions drove it to feast upon the screaming bodies of any that caught his eye. And even those that fought valiantly to deliver what should have been lethal blows found their last moments of broken and bleeding consciousness witnessing a regeneration beyond anything they'd ever heard tell of, even in exaggerated tavern tales.

Deep within the the consciousness of the beast, the disconnected identity of Patrick knew that Ellen'wyn would not, could not escape. His screams of impotent despair, and pleas to stay this end, were silenced at conception, the tears vaporized to steam by the heat of the fiend's hatred of all that lives.

The Fiend Unleashed

No matter how much he would've wanted to or pleaded there was nothing, no real promise to be kept in regards to their sought out shelter. These people and of course Ellen'wyn were in total danger now, the wrath of his caged beast already in the process of filling his entire being. Without that ring to contain another season's worth of rage, the beast now had no bars to be contained within and thus proudly made it's move. His chest for just a Trill caved inward with a violent series of snaps and cracks, as the ribs of his torso slowly started to expand with the rapid growth of his muscles. As much as he tried to claw and tear off his clothes, nothing could be done to remove the uncomfortable fabrics he had worn prior to the visit here.

Muscle mass increased exponentially as his skin tone took a darker pigmentation rapidly, fur and scale developing over the areas that would quickly form into the beast within. Patrick's cries were matched with tears just as hot as his flesh as both muscle and bone structure fast developed. As much as his entire body burned however, the well being of those within the room were more a concern quickly lost with his consciousness. Steam seemed to permeate the air around his body, as the drops of sweat and tears could've nearly sizzled as his skin developed into fur. There were a fast growing number of people running in the room now, and while the medics were fast to realize they were in no position to help; it was already too late for believe their lives safe when they ran.

Thankfully Ellen'wyn had been among those who were shepherded out, and as his body reached the larger mass by the trill his eyes changed. Silvery predator eyes rested within his changing skull, while his body outgrew the last few strands holding his clothes onto his form. It didn't stop there either. His form continued to enlarge as the remaining guards drew their weapons and attacked, their swords and maces barely able to cut into the thickened muscle of his Sessfiend flesh. Patrick was no longer in control now, the monster within had finally surfaced like many times before. The men all cowered when the beast shook off their weapons, claws sharper than razors then raked through the mob as the fiend mauled those before it. The Manticore had it's first feast in a few seasons, while screams of dying men were mixed with a blood thirsty roar inside the building. People outside however were far from safe, and they'd soon learn this as pounds rattled the building.

As the fiend had found release from it's inner cage it now sought the same freedom outside, determined to track a particular scent of interest to the monster. People had a unique smell about them and Ellen'wyn was no different, thus the sweet scent of the huntress was quickly picked up by the Manticore's nose. With a few more loud bangs heard a brief moment of silence followed, and in a single instance nearly half the building rattled before a cave in occurred. The Sessfiend flew out into the street with a hard landing on all fours, while a thick cloud of smoke rose from the collapse behind it. With eyes first gazed upon the moon the Manticore released yet another blood thirsty roar into the night sky, as people all throughout the street started to scream and run in terror. The beast's pointed ears shifted up and down as it sniffed in the air, and then suddenly seemed distracted by something at it's hind.

The scorpion tail of the beast twitched a few times and seemed to experience spasms, while the beast dug all four of it's claws into the earth irately. Sure enough it's reasons for the behavior were known, as right next to the base of the tail the hide seemed to twitch. The beast groaned and growled with annoyance as claws tore deeper into the earth, until finally another tail lashed out from it's hide next to the scorpion tail. This time however darkened scales covered the tail as the end seemed to hiss, with a sharply forked tongue lashing out to taste the cold Cylus air. Silvery snake eyes opened as the tail loomed over the Fiend's form, the beast now at ease as it growled lowly with sniffs in the air. More guards seemed to approach and the Manticore sneered, front claws were thrust outward to propel the creature forward against it's newfound prey.

Tonight the hunt for innocents would begin.

The Fiend Unleashed

The power of magic was a near universally held concept, whether it garnered fear, security, or envy in those that witnessed its works. Anything unnatural was just as universally chalked up to its use or misuse. Bells and shouts raised the town in confusion and alarm. The beast stalked the streets and rooftops, tearing up both as it turned its savagery on any above one or below the other.

Many saw the unholy fury and remorseless ferocity of the thing as they fled, leaving the doomed behind. Some found brief safety within stout walls, cowering with citizen and guard alike. The guards prayed for deliverance along with the rest, knowing it would fall upon them to give what small delay their shredded deaths would provide the screaming citizenry as they fled. Rank only became an issue as notes were compared and a solution to the nightmare was demanded of civil and military leaders.

Hope spiked as there was a swift agreement that they faced a mad Becomer, given over to the bestial monstrosity of a totem torn from some Immortal spawn, or spawns, of Gauthrel's horrors. They had all heard tales of Becomers virtually surrendering their humanity to the beastial form into which they'd transformed. Tearful eyes turned as one to the soldier who seemed to be directing this train of thought.

All the towns in this southern Etzori expansion were heavy on magical defense; it being viewed as the most effective means of countering Rhakros' unconventional brand of warfare. Most grasped this desperately as the likely origin of the creature that now terrorized them, thinking only in terms of magic, and not the potential for a divine source. An Abrogator of some modest ability, his voice quaking in apprehension, stood forth nonetheless to offer his power to hold the beast while some other placed a Ward against Becoming over the monster's neck.

Tearful praise, borne of dread, was showered over him, and upon a second young man who offered to face the paralyzed creature and deliver the ward, with the hope that it would somehow reverse the magic, and render the sadistic lunatic unto summary execution for his crimes. A number of back-up soldiers were quick to state their willingness to slay the monster, once held fast and stripped of its magic power. They received slightly less enthusiasm for their bravery.

It sounded feasible in the relative safety of the stone building, and for a few brief ticks, the Abrogator was able to lock the ankles of the creature in bindings of hardened air as the soldier with the Becoming Ward approached the roaring, snapping, slavering face of the monster. Whether the trembling soldier was too focused on his fear to recognize what the Abrogator was shouting, or if the howls of the beast made them indecipherable, it was all for naught.

The Abrogator had never experienced such raw power pulling against his hold, and knew he could not hold the thing for more than a few ticks. He shouted to his partner to hurry. Even as the monster broke the invisible bonds, the doomed youngster thrust the chain holding the ward over its head...

The only result was the terrified screaming of the savaged young soldier, brief though it was as his throat was the first flesh to be consumed. But the rest stood rooted in horror to see no effect from the Ward. Then the beast looked up in brutal anticipation; and rooted, stricken horror turned to frantic pandemonium as those brave soldiers tasked with killing the paralyzed beast ran, tossing aside their weapons for greater speed, and the crowd broke into those that followed their lead, and those that retreated back inside; trusting vainly to the stout wooden door to safeguard them.

The Abrogator gladly accepted the future consequences of overstepping, as he raised a wall of force to encircle himself, and embraced the shame of hoping the monster would choose someone else to kill.

The Fiend Unleashed

Postby Ellen'wyn » Mon Apr 16, 2018 7:09 pm

There had been few times in Ellen'wyn's life thus far that she'd felt a fear so strong that it paralyzed her. Not long ago she'd experienced such a feeling in Orimar. Now again in this small room, which Patrick writhing and snarling and screaming on the floor. His flesh writhed and bulged, and his face twisted grotesquely. She perched helpless above him, fingers hovering pale and clammy over his sweating and twisting chest.

Hands closed hard around her shoulders and she gave a quick shriek, but another grabbed her round the mouth and silenced the sound. Wide-eyed and heart pounding, she met the hurried gaze of one of the doctors.

"Out! Now!" he urged, trying to drag her to her feet.

"W-Wait!" the redhead protested, finally drawn out of her shock. She looked about the room, struggling in the doctor's grasp before slipping from his fingers and falling to her hands and knees. The mixed-blood scrambled along the floor, fingers groping wildly for Patrick's discarded band. A howl from deep in his chest spurred her faster, and as several doctors went to try and restrain him, she reached the edge of the room. Frantic hands reached under the bed, brushed something round, and she saw a brief glint of silver.

Ellen snatched the ring up as a firm grip wrapped around her once more and hoisted her to her feet. She was ushered quickly, unceremoniously to the door. It slammed resolutely behind her, bumping and sending her halfway into the hall. A few assistants that had been listening on the other side gasped and scattered.

"What is happening?" the eldest of the women asked.

Their faces were pale. Ellen'wyn struggled with the words, and simply shook her head. The weight of the ring clutched in her fists drew her back after a moment.

"You all need to leave right now."

More guards were coming, but Ellen didn't stay to watch what was happening. She didn't understand it and she didn't want to. Patrick had wanted her to run. Her fight or flight instincts had kicked in now, and they were telling her to listen. So she ran--down the hall and to the room they'd offered her, half-limping half-jogging through the aches and pains still plaguing her from Orimar. Something broke in Patrick's room and men were shouting. Ellen'wyn shoved the door open, stumbled into the room and grabbed her still-packed bag, bow, and arrows.

Moving around to the window, she pushed the glass pane up with some difficulty. It was a small space, but large enough for someone of her size to squeeze through. Another much louder crash rocked the building. She felt the floorboards tremble beneath her feet, making her stomach roll. Cool night air beckoned from outside the window, soothing her flushed and sweating face. Ellen slipped Patrick's ring onto her thumb and clambered onto the windowsill, belongings slung onto her back. They were on the second floor, and a dark courtyard stretched out beneath her.

A sudden howling shriek echoed from somewhere outside, spurring her forward. Heart galloping with adrenaline, making her slightly clumsy, she jumped out the window and unfurled her wings. Their bellies filled with chilly air, feathers ruffling, and she pulled herself higher with a few heavy beats. Up, over the next roof so she had a clear line of sight, then bending her left wing slightly, opening the primary feathers, she circled around to the right in a slow arc.

The gore she saw on the streets below almost made her stall. Her wings stilled for a moment and she lost lift, dropping several feet before the sudden rush of cold air brought her back. Gasping, she rose again, quickening her pace, but maintained her arcing path. The mixed-blood didn't know what the creature was. Fur, scales, blood-stained maw. Its long segmented tail whipped dangerously. She didn't know what it was, but she was pretty sure she knew who it was.

"Moseke tsàchun ïtẹsïwäju..."

The Fiend Unleashed

Postby Patrick » Mon Apr 16, 2018 8:06 pm

The monster that tore through building and developed two separate tails had only begun it's rampage throughout town, Southguard being put on high alert while the creature searched for the scent of one in particular. Yet it seemed as though the locals in town had experience with such unusual phenomenon, albeit nothing compared to the wrath of a Sessfiend loose among the streets. Once the creature detected a trace of Ellen'wyn within the air, a vicious snarl resounded from the creature's bloodied maw with bright silver eyes to the sky. There. His target came to land several houses away from him, and so the Fiend attempted to gap the distance via a Blink from the Rupturing Spark Patrick contained. However a band of guards threw spears and launched bolts from crossbows nearby, and thus drove the rage of the creature towards them as the Fiend lashed out to shred those within it's path.

It tore through the band of guards gathered before it and continued to prowl with heavy pounces in each step, the over-sized malformed lion ensnared in the thrill of hunting down any it's path. Citizens alike ran and cowered in attempt to seek out safety and shelter; t farmer desperate to leave behind his cattle, the mother that pulled her boy to safety as the Fiend trampled past, and even the guard who threw himself in the beast's path just to save an innocent. There was no mercy anybody who came across the monster on their streets, just the lucky few who barely escaped the chaos with their lives. The Sessfiend wrought a path of destruction as it took to hop across building tops next, several of the structures clawed and torn in places as it skipped from rooftop to rooftop. It had lost scent of it's mark earlier, but that would soon change when...

Praises were given in distance nearby as there seemed to be a plan, a sort of contingency plan used to attempt control over the beast. The fools. Thinking they could capture and contain a terrifying creature such as him? The Fiend roared aloud into the night sky with a pounce forward onto the street, their 'chosen champion' down at the end to await his fate as the creature glared at him viciously. Claws dug heavily into the stone masonry of the streets as the head of the snake tail hissed, their eyes upon the Abrogator as it attempted to rush forward in belligerent rage. However some unseen 'force' ensnared his claws and legs, and therefore kept the beast pinned towards the ground unsuspectingly. The Fiend now even further angered by this containment revolted, hefty jerks of his fore-legs and back-legs made to try and break away the spell.

A soldier daring enough to try and collar the fiend threw his chain around, attempting to pacify the beast with some anti-magic ward on the chain. No such luck. The beast snarled and therefore reacted in tandem to the action, the two tails of the monster swift to take action with the young man. Brave as he was there was nothing to protect him from being too close, the first tail being the scorpion's tip that plunged into the center of his mass. Any armor he wore instantly cracked and gave way to the force of the jab, as the barb of his stinger penetrated through the soldier's backside then. The beast growled almost satisfied when he heard the man cry out in gurgled pain, and therefore silenced him with a lash of it's second tail to follow. The snake-headed tail flicked over his form and down onto the guard he'd caught, it's mouth stretched to engulf the man's head and shoulders.

As his tail held the body of the man and flailed about wildly to throw it, the entangled limbs of the creature finally broke the spell that held it in place. The Fiend stared fiercely at the Abrogator as he withdrew into his own protective shell, hopeful that the attention of the Fiend itself would divert onto some other unsuspecting victim. Boy did he wish. The Fiend's malevolent ire had been dedicated on eradicating the one who attempted to wrangle him, and now that he was free the wrath would come in full for the Abrogator. The fiend bent into a sprint that cleared the gap between him and the shielded mage, his protective force just barely enough to push the creature back when it attempted to gnaw down.

The Manticore yet again snarled furiously with a stomp of his paw, while the Abrogator somehow barely still kept his ward intact. He looked at the Fiend wide-eyed in horror, as the Manticore made panting noises that nearly mimicked laughter of a human. With paws placed on both sides of the barrier, the Manticore opened his maw wide so that his bloodied drool started to drizzle over the shield. Sizzling noises started to crack and pop at the shields surface, as the beast took in one deep breath above his trapped prey. Only the Abrogator saw what exactly would be coming to him, the rest soon found out the moment he screamed at the Beast's own release. Black sludgy substance gushed from the creature's maw to blanket the shield, as the entire body of the creature fidgeted in place when it released the substance.

Immediately the shield and the Abrogator were dissolved by the massive bile of acid that poured from the creature, as the ground itself started to bubble and steam with nauseating vapors that slowly poisoned all around it. Plants and nature even responded to this as they swiftly blackened and shriveled, as the Fiend once more mocked his dead toy with another feigned laugh. With that distraction now out of the way his hunt could continue, as he still had a little bird the creature wanted to pursue.
