60th of Zi'da Arc 717
The scent of aged cedar wove its way through Sephira’s new home in Scalvoris town; dusky beams of sunlight lanced through the nearby windows to alight on the gleaming saber she was fastening to her hip. Wyvern’s brass hilt had been polished the previous night to a beautiful shine, as today the young mage was traveling to the Elements hall to join the Scalvoris military. Her master would have thought it counterintuitive to join a military force, since he had cautioned against allowing anyone to control her. However Sephira was intent on finding safe haven and a profession that would grant her resources to hunt down her mentor’s killer. The Elements would suit her needs perfectly as she would be given the chance to hone her skills in relative safety and the military of this island nation was not known for limiting the freedom of the mages they employed. She would keep her head down and learn everything she could. With a swift motion Sephira slid on her coat, the scarlet material matching her confidant crimson eyes. Stepping forward with purpose the mage strode out the door and began making her way toward Elements Hall.
The unending choir of voices assaulted her once Sephira stepped out into the main thoroughfare running through the town. The sounds of people chatting or arguing with a nearby trader brought a sense of calm to the mage’s mind. Faldrass’s market had always been a blur of voices and conversation that had been something of a comfort to her. A rich umber hue took hold in her eyes, making the young woman appear less severe and more at ease in her surroundings.
Seagulls called overhead as the roof of the Elements Hall came into view, the strange building boasted curious curves and arching eaves. Sephira placed her hands in her pockets as she approached, her boots clicking softly on the steps as she made her way inside.
A woman with a kindly face sat behind a wooden desk that looked like it had been salvaged from the hull of a ship. The door behind Sephira closed with a sharp thump which alerted the receptionist at the desk. “Good morning miss” she chirped pleasantly; a warm smile gliding across her lips. “Do you have an appointment?” she inquired wile rummaging through the papers on her desk.
“No, I’m afraid not.” The young mage responded coolly, trying her best to seem sure of herself without sounding overly firm with her words. Realizing that she might want to be a bit friendlier with the woman that served as the gatekeeper to the Elements, Sephira plastered a slightly crooked smile on her face. “Will that be a problem?” The receptionist squinted at her curiously as if she could see through the woman’s guise of confidence. “I think we can squeeze you in, Miss? the woman paused waiting for Sephira to give her name.
“Sephira Blackwood.” The young woman responded, quickly filling in her name when asked.
“I’m Ms. Macklin by the way” the receptionist mentioned as she began filling out paperwork, quickly jotting down Sephira’s name.
