Seek and Ye Shall Find (Rorom, Maios, Pepper, Nauta)

70 of Ashan, 718
Mistral Woods
Stormlands, Rharne
Pepper felt a vague sense of familiarity as she met the Eldwyn's eyes, but there was no time to wonder about such things. As the ember and black Eldwyn reached down and gently touched its nose to her forehead, she felt a light tingle, like small bits of electricity dancing over her skin. The sensation faded slowly, but a faint sense of it lingered for a much longer time. As the injured creature's pain filled cry reverberated through the forest, Pepper flinched in sympathy.

The creature was starving, it needed food, what did it eat? Meat? Vegetation? Hopefully it would regain its strength once the arrow was out, and the flower had worked its magic. After what seemed like ages, it was finally done, the arrow was out.

The flower dissolved in the water in Pepper's waterskin, even quicker than salt seemed to. That was unusual, but nothing compared to the purple radiance the water now held. While Pepper was debating how to get the creature to drink it, the injured creature wearily extended its mouth and took a drink from the waterskin. The moments where nothing seemed to happen stretched impossibly long, and Pepper began feeling helpless again. If this didn't work, what would they do.. But thankfully, the wounds slowly but surely began to close. The healing was slow but when it was done only the impressive scar and the starved look of the creature remained as physical manifestation of the whole ordeal.

Spren's wistful comment that they'd all probably forget everything recalled Pepper from the magical reverie that seemed to have descended on the whole scene. She shrugged, "We may not remember, but I bet the woods will. Things should start getting back to normal now.." Se absent mindedly rubbed her forehead which still tingled with the ghostly imprint from the Eldwyn's touch.

Her thoughts moved ahead, to returning to the village, they should be able to get there now without much trouble.. Hopefully anyway. Following the stream further downstream should lead them out well enough. She was looking forward to returning Nauta's belongings to him, hearing that everyone lost had been found and getting back to her family. Now that the excitement was almost over, she felt exhausted. But she still smiled, looking at the creatures they had all helped to heal today.

Seek and Ye Shall Find (Rorom, Maios, Pepper, Nauta)

In the end, Nauta was glad for how it turned out; not for the guardian he hoped they helped even if it was a deed to be proud of, but of the conclusion which did not have him, him and the others squished by an anxious giant. His worry of that one possibility which constantly had him on the lookout for any sign of hostility from the remaining Eldwyn almost made him miss Pepper's method of using the healing flower; almost. Water for the purple just as he should have used fire for the red- interesting reactions which were colour coded for their convenience. "You people living in Mistral lucky to have this thing, lucky us you were around to use it" Nauta said to mirror his thoughts; completely oblivious to the possibility the girl might have been visited by her own tunawa.

And his wanted him to end the Eldwyn. Perhaps he would have, had the one not been so benevolent and instead reminded him of Faldrun- a true oppressive tyrant if there ever was one.

Though for a moment, Nauta's fears got the better of him as his hand hovered over the bomb. Even as the purple light purple light entered and vanished, a phenomenon which should have been of interest to the alchemist, he was more concerned with what could have happened if it did not work- especially after he cut into the one on the ground. Relieved, the aukari could finally continue with his observations which was quite telling as he witnessed the would seal with nothing left but a scar. Effective, maybe not as effective as his own, but effective enough to use in a pinch if he was able to process it properly.

Which had him upset after Spren reminded them about their lost memories. The tunawa was not present when they met the beasts so he might still remember how to use of the poison but if his memories of the giant being healed were erased... he would have to test the purple flowers on his own. 'Ugh." His belief the villagers already knew the method to making use of the flower as Pepper had displayed would be his only lead. He would have to ask around but just in case they ended up useless, he could only hope if they had to pass through the cliffs to return he would have another chance for more of the precious flowers. Until then the chief scout's revelation to him meant there was only one other thing he could do before they had to leave.

Maybe he would forget about the giants, how they looked and what they could do but maybe he could still study them for later. Still new to the talent, Nauta had no idea if it could work but that did not mean he should not try. He studied the Eldwyn, no longer focused on just the wound which troubled them and its miraculous recovery. One bit the sounds all around overwhelmed him. Another he took to fight it back and get his bearings. Bits three and four he struggled to single out the giant's frequency from the cacophony of sounds. The fifth? It was the time for him to appreciate the sounds of the creatures before he attempted to hold the frequency. Only time would tell if it too would be lost or, if he could study it at his leisure in the future.

"I hope not" he idly replied as he thought of the former possibility while he tried to pick out the notes of interest.

But not too long. A reminder from Pepper returning his armour to him immediately got Nauta to hold out the pipe which was back in the bottle. It was held just slightly at Spren before he wistfully asked "so I guess have to give these back now?" After a brief pause he handed it over though he continued to ask "I curious about pipe. Doesn't look like something from forest. Anything you can tell me about it other than woods not like it?" He could have asked about the others, like Pepper's feather; but the alchemist was more interested in the one manufactured item in case he could learn the means to make it.

Other than that though, Nauta would be content to enjoy the village's hospitality for a few days before he would have to leave. Learning of the other group's antics which did not have to deal with ravenous wolves, strange flowers, stranger tunawas and daunting creatures might be amusing too, if like him they choose to stick around.

Seek and Ye Shall Find (Rorom, Maios, Pepper, Nauta)

Image
Upon leaving Mistral Wood, both Nauta and Pepper can find that they are able to remember the Eldwyn and their journey. Although the memories seem frayed around the edges and a little fuzzy, like a well remembered dream.

For some reason Nauta is unable to retain the Frequency that he attempted to attain. Perhaps this may have something to do with the strange abilities of the ancient creatures themselves. Regardless he is allowed to keep his memories, but not the Frequency.

At the edge of the Wood the pair come upon Mistral Village where Iris is waiting for them. Spren vanishes before the leave the forest, waving goodbye and mentioning that he hopes the 'fleshly mortals' come to visit again. The feather and the pipe that Pepper and Nauta had been given by the Tunawa to help them on the journey seemingly vanish into thin air, but they both find several new gifts on their persons that the Tunawa have given them.

The kidnappings within the forest cease and Mistral Wood returns to it's previously peaceful state. Every now and then though, when Pepper and Nauta walk in the woods they might hear the call of one of the Eldwyn in the distance and pick up the whisper of shifting trees...

Pepper
Review
I just want to say that I really enjoyed getting to know Pepper throughout this little adventure. She's a young girl, but she's got such heart and she can't stand to see her friends suffer. She really is a lovely PC. Pepper works carefully and methodically through the challenges she faces without losing her cool. She is a very determined person who will always be there for the people she cares for. I also really came to adore Miret, she suits Pepper well and I love that she can be a little mischievous when she want's to be. Well done with this event. Enjoy your rewards!

Rewards and Effects

Gift Giver: Pepper gave a gift to the forest she will find that the local Tunawa have given her a gift in return. On her wrist is a bracelet made of intertwined tiny purple flowers. These flowers never fade or change with the seasons and remain as fresh and as beautiful as the trial she was given the bracelet.

I Remember You: Because she was remembered by the Eldwyn of Mistral Wood Pepper has been blessed by the forest itself. Because of this Pepper is now being followed by a creature of the forest that’s terribly curious about her. (You may pick one animal native to the woodland to be Pepper’s pet. Please contact me with your choice.)

Finding Your Way: Because of her natural navigational prowess the local Tunawa left Pepper a small gift in her pocket. It’s a lovely brass compass! There is a strange inscription on the back that reads “Does the walker choose the path or the path the walker?”

The Wisdom of Peace: Because Pepper choose not to use the harmful effects of the iron pipe she will find that forest creatures within Rharne are always friendly and approachable around her. Skittish creatures such as deer will not flee from her and birds will readily eat out of her hands.

Mistral Reward: Grandma Iris awards you 200 gold nel for helping end the chaos within Mistral Wood.

Green Touch:When she was blessed by the Eldwyn, Pepper gained a strange new ability. Plant life now flourishes around her. When she tends to a garden, the fruits and vegetables will be bigger and more robust than normal. Anything she harvests will last twice as long before spoiling as if she infuses fruits and vegetables with a strange vigor. If she touches a flower bud it will bloom within the break. She will begin to notice when she touches seemingly dead and dying plants that they immediately begin to recover within the next two breaks. Her ability isn’t always obvious as many of the phenomena can be attributed to chance or luck, but it will become clear in time that plant life becomes more vigorous, bountiful and beautiful after a single touch.

Nauta
Review
Nauta was a great sport in this who fiasco. He worked hard to protect his allies and especially Pepper. (She did after all remind him of Lizzie) Even if he is an something of a scholar, Nauta proved himself as a warrior during this event, defending the others from the wolves while everyone else ran no matter the cost to himself. Well done! I enjoyed his interactions with our feisty Tunawa, Spren. Nauta was interested in getting more information while Spren was something of a buffoon. I'm sure it was frustrating for poor Nauta. Anyway great job and enjoy your rewards!

Rewards and Effects

Gift Giver: Nauta gave a gift to the forest, he will find that the local Tunawa have rewarded him for this gesture. A red rose has been found within his pack that never withers or fades no matter how much time passes. It remains as beautiful and crimson as the trial he found it.

Warrior of the Forest: Nauta stood up to the wolves chasing the group regardless of facing harm. He will find in the coming trials that a young black wolf has begun following him in the Stormlands. He might even remember that the wolf was there with the pack that chased them and that it hung at the back and watched him as the Aukari fended off the other canines. This wolf is untamed and it will take time and effort for Nauta to train it before it will listen to commands.

Defender: The local Tunawa witnessed Nauta defending the group from the wolves. He will find a gift from them in his pocket after leaving the forest. It is a handsome pendant made from a star ruby and hammered copper. There is nothing mystical about this item, but it is a striking piece of jewelry.

The Botanist: After the events of this trial Nauta will manage to make it back to the village just in time to grind up and powder the flower samples he recovered. He learns that the flowers spoil within a break or so, losing the magical potency but if powdered they do retain some of their strength.

2 x Small bottles: Incendiary Dust - These bottles of ruby red dust made from the red flowers can be used to quickly start fires or to make a small combustible bomb. This dust can be combined with other combustible materials to slightly increase the strength and power of the chemical reaction.
2 x Small bottles: Restorative Dust – These bottles of indigo dust made from the purple flowers can be used in a variety of tinctures and medicines. This powder can be added to water or a mixture with edible oils to create a medicine that will cure aches and pains for at least a single trial or double the speed for healing minor flesh wounds.

Bruised arm: Will take three trials to heal without medical aid.

Mistral Reward: Ms. Iris awards you 200gn for helping to end the chaos within Mistral Wood

Merciful Flames:Destruction is a choice, and Nauta successfully made a decision that many of his fellow Aukari have failed to make in the past. In choosing to help the Eldwyn, he has been given a blessing from them. Nauta will find that when in the presence of flames he can reach out with his right hand and the fire will begin to grow weaker in strength. In the case of naturally occurring fires (those not created by a mage) he can snuff them out if he is within five feet of them. He can snuff out an area roughly the size of 10ft by 10ft before his grasp on the flames weakens.
This ability does not affect magically created flames like those from a Defier. However, he now seems to have a greater resistance to his own inner Aukarian flames. Nauta is less likely to experience an Eruption now that he has a light grasp on extinguishing flames.
It will take him some time to realize that he has this ability. Candles will flicker and gutter often in his presence and hearths will sometimes die down to nothing but glowing embers when he passes by.

You can use this ability twice a trial.
