42nd of Ashan 718

Stronghold of education and learning, this fortress is in one of the coldest areas of Idalos and home to many knowledge seekers in a variety of disciplines. However, unknown to most, below the city are those who suffer for the sake of science. While all are welcome, not everyone will be treated as they expect.

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

Devin noticed that Yorrick avoided his gaze – which meant that his words had had some sort of effect on him. He wondered if he should step up his game, but then the other man snapped at him, and he realized that he would probably ruin any chances he might have with him if he didn’t keep his mind on the task at hand. So he assured him, “Of course I want to find the orphans. In fact, nothing is more important to me!” Having said that, he turned around and did his best to appear busily looking for the orphans while Linika and Gara talked about racism and other pointless things. Devin didn’t understand racism. In his mind all people were equal – they were equally good victims!

As Yorrick complimented him on discovering the doll, Devin beamed at him. When the whole thing had started he hadn’t even wanted to be in his group, but now he couldn’t imagine anything better than being with him and doing all kinds of unmentionable things to him. When he had looked at him like that, the agent had sown the seed of love in his heart!

While Yorrick avoided looking at him again, Devin definitely wasn’t doing so. On the contrary, he kept glancing at the IA agent – until he said something about Linika seeing better in the dark than them. As he heard that, he stared at the Naerikk instead. He wanted to be able to see in the dark as well! It would make stealing stuff so much easier!

“I’ll go and search over there!” Devin informed Yorrick and pointed towards the ship storage shed, making sure that he would be able to see him walk over there and being helpful. He decided to hold onto the doll in case he found the girl. She might be scared. The doll would comfort her. It was a nice doll. It had blonde hair, and there was a large red bloom on the front of its dress.

As he looked through the storage shed, he noticed a strange glint. He was about to call out to Yorrick that he had found something again, but then he decided against it. It appeared to be some sort of gemstone. It was red and orange, like some sort of fruit, and it was probably quite valuable. He was just about to go after it when something else caught his attention. There was a trail of blood leading outside, and Devin suddenly found himself facing a nearly impossible dilemma.

He felt the need to find the orphans, more strongly than ever before, but he couldn’t resist the lure of the gemstone either. He didn’t want to have to choose! He wanted both the orphans and the gemstone – and Yorrick on top of it. His gaze darted back and forth between the blood trail and the gemstone for a few trills because he didn’t know what to do, and then he gave himself a push and called out to the agent, “Come here quickly and get the others! There’s a trail of blood leading outside! I think I know where the orphans are!”

As he waited, he spotted a piece of blue canvas near the old fishing gear. He quickly grabbed it and threw it over the heap of stuff in front of him, hoping to hide his prize from the prying eyes of his companions so that he would be able to come back and dig it out later. Maybe he could have both the orphans and Yorrick and the gemstone after all!

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

Had she not fallen back in despair against an empty crate, Linika may have missed the second drop of blood. Her head had drooped and the small red stain had eventually come into focus through her tears. The tears stopped immediately with new purpose found. She'd heard the Ellune woman, Gara, call some question in from outside the hull, but had not answered. In truth, she had not quite caught the words the other woman had said, but it was no great reach to figure it to be a question of whether she'd found anything.

Her tendency toward assuming malicious intent when facts were unavailable had brought her to guess that the child was probably dead. And while that possibility was still likely, it was no longer so certain. She found a third drop, and a fourth. They led to a breach in the hull, and Linika dropped through to find another drop. So odd it was to feel a rise in optimism over an obvious bleeding wound, yet an eager grin split her face.

Then she heard the human, Devin, call from a different direction. She grimaced in frustration. If they all came charging after a wounded child together, they would probably terrify her, and she might get herself killed doing something desperate. Linika did not hesitate. She was not going to see the fruit of this effort be spoiled by over-eagerness. She hurried on her own, ahead of the others, waving any back that might be coming up behind her.

The blood trail soon established a course toward a small hut, gone to seed. When she got there, she found that the door had been blocked shut by something inside. It worried her that the door was going to need to be forced open. It would surely scare the child, if she was inside as she suspected, but there was nothing else she could do.

She called softly through the door, "Sweetheart? I'm here to help you, but the door can't be pushed in. I'm going to pry it out instead, so just stay back in case something breaks." If anyone had come up behind her, Linika would wave them silently to go around to watch for anyone trying to slip out some other way.

She looked around for something to use as a pry bar. Fortunately, the door looked weathered and flimsy, and was not likely to put up much resistance. There was an old rocking chair around the side of the hut, with a broken armrest. The upholstered back was cloth with an embroidery of some sort of desert bloom stitched into it. The rest of it was painted blue. She could not help a smirk of irony at the thought of a desert plant motif here in Viden, but the chair itself was not nearly so decrepit as the little hut.

She was able to break off one of the blue rocker runners to use as a pry bar. The door gave easily to reveal a hodgepodge of waterproof gear heaped about randomly inside. It only took her a moment to see that one of the heaps was trembling slightly. "Don't be afraid, child. I've got something to keep you warm. Just let me move some of this clutter, okay?"

She slipped off her Cavini Cloak to wrap the child in as she carefully pulled away various items to reveal the shivering child hiding beneath them. The poor girl's lips were almost as blue as the rocker arm she was holding.

Ah, yes, there are a number of delights in Viden,” The Talius heir answered, smiling politely, “I hope your stay has been enjoyable, if you have made particular efforts to remain for longer than required.” So it could be assumed that Amaris would not be staying much longer, no further than season’s end, at best, but they seemed interesting. “I would recommend the Fruit Gardens, on the outer edges of the city. Though Viden rarely has any flowers in bloom, we are lucky enough to seed many plants and grow the most delectable strawberries and other delights. Our speciality is frozen produce.

One would assume that if they children were ‘bad’, as you report the Orphanage caretakers as describing them, they would be willing to discuss reasons as to why they had run away…” Virikai mused, more to himself than to anyone else, then, to the group at large, he continued. “If the girl had previously run away, perhaps we could search previous locations she was found? Or known haunts of the children. Intelligent or not, children are creatures of habit, with limited imagination when it comes to the real-world applications of remaining hidden.

When directed to venture forth and speak to the assembled instructors and classmates, Virikai’s initial reaction would have been to go and speak to the instructors. He expected that he was much more likely to gain practical and relevant information, rather than trying to decipher the meaningless drivel that so often spouted from the mouths of children.

Last tick, however, Virikai’s course veered off and he ended up kneeling on the ground just behind the tunawa. His grasp of the Xanthean language was sketchy at best, but he was able to understand most of the key words (which was a good chunk of it, seeing as, even from his limited understanding, Virikai knew that Leeloo’s own grammar was hardly fluent).

Stumbling over a few of the words and taking longer than normal, Virikai made efforts to translate the twig’s utterances for the girl. On his own part, he forced a smile onto his face to soften his features. Maybe Leeloo had the right idea, to appear as kind and approachable as possible. “I doubt children see tunawa before,” Virikai murmured quietly to the little creature after trying his best to translate.

Amaris nodded along as Virikai spoke, making a mental note to visit the gardens. They were sure there would be something worth seeing, even if there wasn't anything in bloom. They wondered for a moment if perhaps their mother had seen to the fruit-bearing trees she'd so loved. They likely weren't ripe yet, but perhaps they'd already progressed past the blossoming stage. At Taysin's staunch refusal of having ever skipped a class, they nodded once more. They supposed that would be the proper outlook on doing such a thing. But these children might not have seen it as so beneficial.

Being presented with who to speak with, the mixed blood was immediately drawn to the twin girls. A smile, soft and somewhat wistful, touched their lips as they approached with little hesitation. They could remember being close to their own twin the way it seemed these two were, and of the way their feline Twins moved almost as one. A seed of homesickness was called forth at the remembrance, but they quickly tamped it down.

Crouching so as to be more on their level, they offered a slightly wider smile. Hello, there. My name's Amaris. May I know yours? And would you perhaps like to help me for a little bit?" Their gaze darted around the room for a moment, landing on a blue button just beside their foot. "How about a show you a little trick with this button for your help?" They didn't know many button tricks, or any for that matter really, but they could come up with something on the spot. Maybe.

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

Each of her team went off in a variety of directions, each choosing someone to talk to, be they child or adult. Taysin stood back, surveying the scene, judging to see who might be making progress. Some had chosen to tackle the adults but many of her little group seemed to have decided that the children were the best option. If it had been necessary, she would have gone with Leeloo to translate for her but the Eídisi found herself unneeded.

It surprised her that Virikai Talius had decided to aid the Tunawa, his willingness to translate on her behalf earning a raised eyebrow from the IA agent. She could understand the little twig capering before the redheaded girl but it was another thing to see the lordling engage in this, helping others. It intrigued her and it told her multiple things about the young man, including the fact that he could speak some Xanthea. Still, it was good to see some mingling between team members. She had intellectual types, analytical of others and thus, they weren't always the best at mixing socially, especially with each other. It was one of the downfalls of these sorts of people. It was clear to see in Amaris who had been keeping others at a distance and so it was interesting to see them choose to tackle two children at once.

The redheaded girl had evidently been fascinated by Leeloo and when the little plant woman introduced herself, her eyes grew round, the braid dropping away from her mouth as she stared. "H-h-hello," she responded hesitantly, choosing to nibble on her lip now that the hair was lost to her. Still, the corners of her lips twitched upwards, a nervous sort of joy taking hold of her as she examined Leeloo up close. She began to reach out, evidently planning on touching her before she seemed to remember herself at Virikai's approach. Her eyes popped even further out of their sockets, the excitement of the trial obviously getting to her. First, there was the matter of missing children and all of them being herded into this room to be interrogated. Now, there were more people here to look at them and talk to them. They were different than the ones who had talked to her earlier though, not as stern, not even the Eídisi man.

"I'm Treela," she mumbled in response as the twig started chattering madly, words unintelligible. Although the man tried to translate, his own words halting and uncertain. By the time he finished, the girl was a lot more relaxed, more ready to laugh at Leeloo's exuberance and make an effort to answer her questions. She began pointing to different objects, explaining their usage or purpose to the Tunawa, not thinking about the fact that she wouldn't understand it. Her chattering continued until she got around to the true matter at hand and then she was so relaxed that she just let the words slip free.

"Elyne's smart, I'm not scared for her. And she's not alone, she's with Tollan and he's even smarter. Bette to be out of the Orphanage from what I've heard than-" Treela gushed then clapped her hands over her mouth, eyes wildly broadcasting that she hadn't meant to admit so much.

Meanwhile, Amaris would find her targets more open to conversation than Treela. They also spoke to one another, bouncing thoughts back and forth between them, sometimes obscure as they seemed to share information known only too each other. They appeared to have something of the fabled twin communication, so in sync with one another that they understood how their thoughts were progressing and how to finish each other's sentences.

"I'm Dayla," replied one with a sigh.

"And I'm Layla," the other replied. "Our parents thought that matching names would be cute-"

"Really cute," Dayla chimed in with an eyeroll and another sigh.

"-which worked when we were two arcs old, maybe," Layla finished, the pair exchanging looks before they turned their attention back to Amaris.

"What sort of help do you want, Amaris?" Dayla asked, sounding oddly weary for a girl her age.

"And what do we get in return?" asked the other, fluttering her eyelashes, smile sweet and innocent although her eyes danced with mischief. Her twin's face didn't carry the same underlying giddiness. Instead, Dayla appeared almost melancholy underneath.

"A trick? Is that all we get for... what? Telling you about Elyne? Tollan? The Orphanage?" Dayla questioned softly.
---
Linika managed to slip away unseen, not because she was skilfully stealthy but due to the fact that the others were distracted. Devin was occupied with his own matters, first Yorrick then his own greed. Yorrick spoke softly with Gara, considering where they might go from here if they found nothing further. Mainly, the IA agent was ensuring that he was occupied so that if Devin attempted to speak with him again, he would be otherwise engaged. Thus, when the Naerrik crept away, none of them were paying enough attention, not really. Devin had made himself the centre of attention once more, drawing everyone to him so that he was the focus rather than the child they were meant to be searching for. His vanity ensured that she had a lead but not much of one. Devin's method of drawing attention left much to be desired though and thus, his cries led to confusion and overexcitement rather than making matters easier.

Yorrick hurried over, doing his best not to shake the man. Why hadn't he called them and started off, leading the way so they could follow? He seemed like a man who liked actions over words and thus, the IA agent was worried that he was going to drag this out unnecessarily. It made him a little overexuberant, showing more emotion than he would have seen so far. His eyes were a little wild, already maddened by the other man on some level.

"Where? Don't waste time now, just spit it out! Or better yet, lead the way and quickly now!" Yorrick urged, turning his attention to the ship as he cried out for Linika. No answer came and he pointed the Ellune that way, urging her to hurry while he turned his focus back to Devin, grabbing his upper arm, squeezing it painfully tight. "What do you know, Devin? Remember that a child's life could be at stake. Two children's lives," he explained, giving his arm a brief shake.

The Ellune came dashing back. "She's not on the ship. She's gone," Gara blurted out, waving back towards the beached vessel. "I don't know where Linika has gone."

The IA agent swore softly, brows pulling together as his gaze dipped and then froze as he spotted the first droplet of blood, it moved slowly to the next and then he was moving forward at a fast walk. "There's a blood trail. It could be Linika or one of the children," he gasped out. If there was no obstacle thrown in their way, they would trace the same trail that Linika had in just a few bits.

Meanwhile, the Naerrik's escapade with the door on the hut had eaten into her headstart. The young woman would find that her colleagues were audible nearby, not too distant although it wasn't clear just how close they were. However, now that she'd found the child, everything would be okay, wouldn't it?

Not quite.

When she entered, the girl was petrified with cold and terror but adrenaline had seeped into her bloodstream, building in anticipation of a need to fight or flee. It wasn't until the adult actually touched her though that her instincts kicked in. "N-n-no, no, n-n-no! Can't g-go back there. Can't g-go back!" she wailed, thrashing wildly against her would-be rescuer. Short nails clawed at the other woman, finding any available bare skin and scratching it open, teeth snapping as she spat and tried to bite. It would be sudden and violent enough to take her utterly off-guard, giving Elyne the chance to slip her grip, now bearing the Naer's precious cloak as she stumbled forward, careening down onto her knees in the snow before she scrambled up and went off to the side, almost drunken in her movements.

The child seemed to have some strength in her still, using her energy to make a crazed dash across the snow, heading straight for the water side as she dealt with pursuit on multiple sides. Like a cornered animal, she was being driven to desperate measures.

She managed to clamber onto a ship, teetering dangerously close to its edge before she sprang into a small rowboat nearby, almost smashing through its comparatively thin hull. In fact, it left her truly cornered, stuck in the little boat with nowhere to go but away from the dock, something that she tried to do with the oars. She had no idea how to row and instead pushed off from the bigger ship, sending herself drifting outwards. Elyne was crying, terrified because she could see the icy water that had begun to seep in through a crack in the boat's bottom. Soon, she'd be sitting in it and inviting hypothermia, or truly sunk and almost surely dead from exposure.

NPCs

Race: Eídisi
Age: 55
Skills: Leadership - Expert
Investigation - Expert
Intelligence - Expert
Hunting - Competent
Rhetoric - Competent
Linguistics - Competent
Languages: Common (Fluent), Xanthea (Conversational), Rakahi (Broken)
Marks: Xypha - Adored

A senior investigator within the Intelligence Authority, Taysin doesn't deal with typical matters of law and order. She doesn't investigate petty crime but is instead typically given the job of keeping an eye on those from potential problem races (Ithecal, Naerrik, etc.) and suspicious individuals. Her job isn't simply surveillance however, as she also tracks down items that have been smuggled into the city.

Taysin may come across as quite haughty to those that she deems as being lesser races but she will show a warmer demeanour to those who prove their intelligence to her either through words or deeds. She is a good communicator who is quite determined to have her own opinion heard but who will also do her best to hear as many points of view as she can when considering a dilemma.
Yorrick Farrow
Race: Human
Age: 32
Skills: Investigation - Expert
Intimidation - Expert
Intelligence - Competent
Empathy - High Competent
Unarmed Combat (Mixed Martial Arts) - Competent
Persuasion - Competent

Yorrick is a quiet, aloof-seeming man. He's a man of few words and when he does speak, it's usually wise to pay attention to him because he's considered his words very carefully indeed. He spends more time watching others, observing both physical body language and his target's Tangle. He is has a scholarly curiosity about the emotions of others but he doesn't take pleasure in playing with them although he considers it necessary. Yorrick works with the IA and typical work involves calming suspects and making them cooperative, gaining a sense of the Videnese population's satisfaction levels and supporting his colleagues where necessary.
Gara Vraskai qalar-Treid
Race: Ellune
Skills: Socialisation - Expert
Endurance - Expert
Strength - Competent
Detection - Competent
Intimidation - Novice
Languages: Leni (Fluent), Common (Conversational)

A history student from Oscillus, Gara is quiet and thoughtful, ready to help those that she perceives as being in need. At 8 foot tall with skin that typically appears frosted, the black haired woman may appear rather intimidating but like many of her race, she is a gentle giant. She is naturally inquisitive and has decent observation skills.

She aided Leeloo when she was escaping from her master and gave her a place to stay.

Objectives

Must do Objectives:
  • 1. Take part in an argument.
    2. Write a post in under 500 words.
Optional Objectives:
  • 1. Discover an out of place object and give it to someone else.
    2. Ask another person, PC or NPC, a serious question but answer it yourself.
You can complete one, both or neither of these objectives.

I will be posting again in one weeks on 29nd May. You must post once between now and then. Any additional posts will be deleted. Missing a turn will have IC consequences, even if that means that you do not gain the advantages of others in your group.

Please do not control the NPCs unless you are given explicit permission to do so. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE OF THE PEOPLE THAT TAYSIN'S GROUP ARE QUESTIONING!

Complete the must do objectives or suffer the (IC) consequences.

There is no posting order. Respect the other players and have fun!

Consequences

Achievement - Goody Two-Shoes: Devin, Linika and Amaris completed all objectives
Achievement - As You Must: All PCs completed all must-do objectives.
Achievement - Two Roads Diverged...:All PCs have made their decisions on how to proceed and that will make all the difference. Having come to a decision will lead to a reward at the end.
Achievement - A Season of Rebirth: All PCs used all of the words associated with growth and rebirth. This will lead to a themed reward.
Achievement - Clear and Concise: All PCs managed to keep their posts under word count and will receive a fun gift at the end.
Achievement - Something Blue...: Devin, Linika and Amaris utilised something blue in their posts and so will receive a unique reward.

As Yorrick hurried over to him, the expression on Devin’s face brightened considerably. For a moment he was absolutely convinced that the agent would take him into his arms and kiss him passionately, but no kiss came. Instead, Yorrick screamed at him and grabbed his arm in a most painful fashion. Devin furrowed his brow, tried to push the agent's hand away and glowered at him before he snapped, as if he hadn’t temporarily lost his focus, “I know that a child’s life is at stake! You are wasting time! I found the bloodtrail, so shut up and come with me!"

He grabbed Yorrick’s hand and tried to quickly drag him to wherever the bloodtrail led. “I know where the girl’s gone”, he proclaimed. “And I’m pretty sure that the blood belongs to her. If Linika had had an accident in here and cut herself on a sharp edge or stumbled over something, we would see blood somewhere else as well. But enough of that! Lives are at stake, and the girl’s probably hurt, so we shouldn’t spend any more time arguing”, he informed his companions. Yorrick’s magic and his selfish nature were at war again, and at least for the time being it seemed as if Yorrick’s magic was winning.

He did briefly stop as he noticed a peculiar glint next to the trail though. It turned out to be a little amber-colored stone that reminded him of his prize that was still waiting for him under the blue piece of canvas. Maybe it came from the same source? He quickly grabbed it and was about to pocket it, but then he handed it to Yorrick instead. “I’m sorry for my outburst”, he whispered. He really didn’t want Yorrick to be mad at him. Maybe being given something pretty and seeing him worry over the fate of the orphans would change his mind?

“We should be quiet now”, he told them as they got closer to where Linika, and hopefully the girl, were. “If she hears a couple of adults she might get scared and try to run!” He held the little doll in front of him so that the girl would immediately see it. It might help her realize that they didn’t mean to hurt her. He stepped into the hut only to discover that the girl was already gone again. “What are we supposed to do now?” he asked Yorrick, a little desperately, and then he proceeded to answer the question himself. “We need to go outside! I have a really bad feeling”, he murmured and moved outside as quickly as he could. He was suddenly worried that his arguing with Yorrick would cost the girl her life!

Leeloo didn't know exactly what Treela had said, but she knew by her reaction it had to do with her missing classmates. She didn't want the girl to feel that she had been tricked by her. Leeloo kindly patted the girl's hand. Treela needed feel reassured, if not she might feel as if she was betraying her friends.

She looked over to Virikai, "See more this smile and care, be good for Mae might I think. To stiff, not friendly no good. Warm and kind yes. Good for Mae." Her comments may have sounded sassy or salty. But Leeloo meant her words in the kindest way. Mae was warm and kind and she deserved someone as she was.

Leeloo climbed up Treela's arm and happily sat on the shoulder of the girl. Easing her mind was important to her feeling safe enough to confide in. "Tee-lah! Tee-lah!" she sang from the girl's shoulder. All these people hounding over these children... It was no doubt scary for them. "Many people talk, scary yes? Leeloo think yes. Tell more about Tee-lah? More about school? Have many friends?" Leeloo liked this girl, she was the opposite of how her owner had been. Had her owner been like this girl... She may have never left. She could easily see herself playing for hours alongside this child. Even after this craziness was done, Leeloo would have to visit this girl.

As strange as it sounded Leeloo missed playing with children. She loved being with Mae and Gara. But she had spent so much time growing up along side her young Master. Perhaps she could make friends with children here?

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

The irony of good intentions serving a foul end...

It was not just that she'd held back to remove the cloak, and had become slightly off balance as she extended it to the child, both of which had given the girl an opening to squirm past her. It was that holding back had also been done to prevent alarming the child any further. It was also that the child now bore the protection from the elements, and Linika did not, as the chase advanced to the next stage.

It also didn't help that Linika forgot her surroundings as she twisted in a half-crouch to grab the girl; putting her shifting weight on an uneven stack of fallen boards, many of which still had layers of ice on them. She went down with a curse and a number of abrasions as the boards slid beneath her. She would now be adding a few drops of her own blood to the trail left by Elyne as she scrambled up in pursuit.

The cold registered anew as the lack of the Cavini Cloak left her more vulnerable. But her primary focus was on the trail left by the girl's mad dash to the waterfront. Linika could see Elyne's silhouette against the sky, amid the features of one of the vessels berthed there. As she approached the ramp, she noticed a small, fairly decorative wooden box with a broken hinge. She picked it up thinking she might appeal to the child's curiosity with it.

She heard a muffled splash from the far side of the ship. Intuition told her to forego boarding, and to instead run around the aft end of the vessel to see what had made the splash. Grave apprehension seized her she saw the child stumbling around in the rowboat. She'd pushed off well enough, but clearly had no idea how to use the oars beyond that.

"Hang on, Elyne. I'm coming!" She shouted, and grabbed a flotation ring. She held it to her chest as she ran and dove into the water, keeping the ring under her. The impact knocked much of the wind from her lungs and the temperature was nearly paralyzing, but she immediately began stroking and kicking to advance on the rowboat.

Elyne immediately began refusing and warning Linika off with attempts to swing an oar that was plainly too heavy for her. Linika would not take no for an answer and told her that she wouldn't let anyone hurt her, and that she'd just have to go ahead and hit her with it. This went on for a few bits until the naer mentioned the jewel box she would give her if she would trust her.

"Sweetheart, why do you keep saying you can't go back?" Linika finally asked the terrified girl. All at once a new thought occurred to her, one that felt so right, "...when you don't have to? When you can come and live with me instead?"

Hopefully the little wooden box counts as an out-of-place object, offered to Elyne.
And she argued with Elyne to come back.
And Linika answered her own last question.

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

Remembering the destruction of his name by someone who had so little competence in linguistics almost caused the aristocrat to wince. He managed to force a smile onto his face and offered something easier, for his companion and the children to remember, “Kai.” It was exceptionally rare for anyone to call him that - it was a moniker reserved for family and his closest acquaintances... not for complete strangers. But this venture required a certain amount of friendliness, if he wanted to achieve anything and gain answers. He doubted he’d ever see this tunawa again, so it was of little consequence. And if he did, well.. more fool him.

But then the weird little thing started to offer him advice. Or, at least he thought that was the case, as he slowly translated it. He blinked down at the creature, dumbfounded. “…I’m sorry but is that appropriate…?” he finally managed to bite out, wondering how this had come about. It wasn’t so much surprising that Leeloo knew about his relationship with Bella - half the city did, if they cared about anything. Nor was it surprising that Leeloo might personally know his fiancée: it was the type of thing Bella would do, to pick up strays and outcasts and make friends with them. Immortals, with the two of them together, Virikai dreaded to imagine a third party trying to get a word in edgewise. “No. No it is not.

What did surprise him was the possibility that Marbella had been sharing private information about their relationship with a complete stranger. Again, not something that the scion didn’t not imagine possible, but the unpleasant reminder that Marbella has d limited regard for boundaries was not what he expected to be managing today.

Still, Virikai has been trained well by his father, and wouldn’t become distracted from he task. “The name Treela,” Virikai supplied in his own broken Xanthea, knowing just how much he must sound like the tunawa he was translating for and hating it. “She say... ‘Elyne smart, Tollan bigger smart...” he paused, unable to translate the rest without more information. Opening and closing his mouth a few times before admitting internal defeat, he shook his head at the little tree creature, frowning.

What do you mean, Treela?” Virikai asked softly, milky white eyes intent as he leaned forward ever so slightly. “Elyne and Tollan might be in danger, we need to make sure they are safe.” if there was any snowfall and the children were caught out in it, with naught but the clothes on their back, by the time they were found they would look closer to ellune than anything else. Virikai refused to promise his silence or to keep any secrets - he was many things, but not a liar. “They will not get in trouble, and nor will you if you help us to help them.

[Seasonal Quest] Little Lost Orphans

At their introduction, Amaris' smile widened. "My twin and I were almost the same, but my mother had persuaded my father of otherwise." They were seemingly content with the pair before them, at an odd state between crouching and squatting to be eye levl with the girls. The two didn't seem entirely impressed with a button trick, much to the mixed blood chagrin. "How could one say no to a button trick? I think I see that you too are might be much too grown up for this." Admittedly, they were used to children a little younger, just learning to read and write. An arc or two older and it was like dealing with miniature adults.

So maybe it would be best to treat the two as such. "I would argue that this, in itself is a treat; you get a break from classes while you help. Just a few answers, and then you're free to roam the room and..." Just like the teapot had caught their eye outside in the snow, their eyes fell to another oddity: a stamp. It looked far too official to be for a child to play with, but they went to retrieve it no less. "And when we're done, you can play with this stamp or figure out where it should go. I'm sure you'll be rewarded if you gave it to its owner. Maybe a few copper nels." Did children like bribery? They'd find out soon enough.

"Did Elyne and Tollan ever say anything about a special hideout? They might not have, but did was there any place they talked about a lot?"
